"What are you doing here?!"
"I'm, uh, a med student. Got lost. Wow, so many dead bodies—it's like a necromancer's paradise. You're not one, are you?" I joked.
"Get out!"
"Okay, okay, I'm leaving," I said, motioning for Emily to follow me.
We reached Jane, and I had no choice but to tell her the truth. She didn't believe me until she saw her mother's soul.
"Hello, Jane," Emily said softly. "I love you and always will."
Tears streamed down Jane's face. I gave them 30 seconds.
When I led Emily through the door to the afterlife, Jane grabbed my hand and saw the void beyond.
"Who are you?" she asked, voice trembling.
"Hi, I'm Simon Moore. And I am Death."
