Chapter 7 - C7

As many Jews as there are Jews."

Irish control American politics.

'President Kennedy was also assassinated.'

Because they belong to a noble Irish family.

It can't be helped, since approximately one-tenth of the population of America is of Irish ancestry.

"Please meet His Excellency the President."

I addressed in Korean so that the Blue House Chief of Staff and the Korean military generals could hear.

The interpreter interpreted those words literally.

'Today is December 24, 1971.'

If the US senator from New York sees the president today, it will be a Christmas present to South Korea.

"Is it patriotism?"

"Father, my country is still poor."

"When I came to Korea originally, there was really nothing."

What is this?

"Seongsu, your father fought in the Korean War."

Lieutenant Smith told me about it.

'That's a good thing.'

I nearly burst out laughing.

"Thank you, Father, for defending the Republic of Korea."

A US senator smiles at my words.

"I feel proud now that I've come back."

There must be many painful memories from participating in the war, but there must be pride in them.

"Beginning from the Korean War, Korea and the magnificent United States became the most ideal blood union. Also, together with the young American Smith, I, a young Korean, bled in Vietnam just as my great-grandfather bled to defend the United States, Korea, and liberal democracy."

This is a form of appeal that is emotional.

And it is to impress upon individuals that the United States-Korea relationship is not the same as the United States-Japan relationship.

'Korea.'

Because I bled for America.

Contrarily, Japan has a history of bleeding on American troops.

We have to stress that and make the US feel unfriendly towards Japan, which is becoming an economic power, and favor South Korea.

'Very far from the Plaza Accord.'

If the New York senator goes back to the US and establishes the tone of the Plaza Accord, the Japanese economy may crash even quicker while Korea can develop even quicker.

'I remember the future.'

Before long, the coming year, 1972, will be here, and the year after that, 1973, the Fourth Middle East War will erupt and the First Oil Shock will take place, and the price of oil will shoot up from $2.50 in 1973 to $11.50 in 1974.

The United States, which had been experiencing stagflation caused by inflation since 1971, was severely struck by the first oil shock and the world economy plunged into a black age.

Consequently, Korea's exports also crash and it is caught in an economic crisis.

I have already informed the President of this.

I think that the Lord would want the Republic of Korea, which he guarded with his life, to be more stable and more prosperous than it is today."

"It appears that the Korean government is asking for a lot from me."

Was it too much?

If that's what my son desires, I should do it. I also want the Republic of Korea to progress beyond what it is today, because it's the nation I risked my life to defend."

The senator declared me to be his son.

The President's Chief of Staff couldn't conceal his expression of shock upon hearing his words via an interpreter.

'My stock price will go up again.'

Now, I feel like I'm going to be pulled by the US Senate and pushed by the President.

"Senator, I will escort you to the Blue House."

Maybe thinking that this was the time, the Blue House Chief of Staff approached.

"Let's do that. In fact, I was planning to meet the saint who saved my son Smith and return to America with only my son."

It seems like it's going to drive my share up even more.

"Oh, is that so?"

"Isn't this a politically self-evident case?"

"I'm sorry."

"However, since I am the godfather of Seongsu, I can't disregard my son's appeal, so I will see His Excellency the President."

This will be passed on to the President later as is.

"thank you."

When the Chief of Staff to the President had a word with the Senator and was about to leave the special room with the Senator, something just struck me and I caught hold of the Chief of Staff to the President by the collar.

"Wait for a moment."

He called out the Blue House secretary quietly.

"Why are you doing this?"

A Blue House official replied, "I have the authority to drop even birds, but the secretary was polite to me."

That indicates my reputation is very high.

"The senator is a Korean War veteran."

"I was surprised to hear that too."

"A medal of merit issued by the President of the Republic of Korea would touch the heart of the senator even more."

The secretary was surprised at what I told her.

"How did you do it and create such a great idea?"

"Quickly, call the Blue House immediately and instruct them to prepare it."

"All right."

He is till the secretary of the Blue House whom I look up to.

'Even a medal made of gold is less expensive than American economic aid.'

No matter politics, economics, or business, everything is implemented by human beings.

By conquering the minds of politicians, they win elections and businessmen reap profits.

Blue House Presidential Office.

"You instructed me to get ready a medal for Seongsu to give to the senator?"

The secretary's report was unexpectedly conveyed to the president.

"Yes, exactly. And now Senator Walker Smith is reportedly on his way out of the Armed Forces Hospital and to the Blue House."

"But giving a medal?"

By the secretary's report, Senator Walker Smith is a Korean War veteran. Sergeant Lee Sung-soo overheard the story and recommended it to the secretary. So I worked it up immediately."

The President believed that Lee Seong-su was a good young man.

"Hahaha, I like it very much."

The Oval Office of the President.

On behalf of the whole people of the Republic of Korea, I hereby award the Distinguished Service Medal to Lieutenant Walker Smith, who participated in the Korean War, as a token of my appreciation."

Unexpectedly, the chief of security was in attendance at the medal presentation ceremony.

It was Senator Walker Smith who was surprised that President of the Republic of Korea was going to give him a medal for his service during the Korean War.

"Loyalty!"

Simultaneously, however, as the Medal of Honor ceremony was taking place, a U.S. senator saluted the President of the Republic of Korea, yet the U.S. senator is someone who does not even give the U.S. president a salute first.

"Thank you very much for defending the Republic of Korea."

The president of South Korea was proud as he was saluted by an American senator.

"thank you."

The medal award ceremony hastily arranged was finished.

"My godson Seongsu requested me to meet His Excellency the President, so I came all the way to the Blue House."

The President was again taken aback by the senator's statement.

"The senator has accepted to be the godfather of Sergeant Lee Seong-su."

The President's Chief of Staff, who had been present when Lee Sung-soo was made Senator Walker Smith's godson, provided a brief summary to the President.

And afterwards, Lee Seong-su, who had already put on civilian attire in the military hospital, gingerly opened the door and entered the presidential office.

"Sergeant Lee Seong-su, I have come at the behest of His Excellency the President. Loyalty!"

As Lee Sung-soo stepped into the presidential office, President of the Republic of Korea and the New York Senator welcomed him with beaming smiles.

"Sit down and come here."

The president addressed Lee Sung-soo.

'Apparently, I'm going to have to keep Lee Seong-su with me for a bit.'

The senator's interaction with Lee Sung-soo has raised Lee Sung-soo's value.

The President's Oval Office.

Is there a possibility that a fourth war in the Middle East could happen in the Middle East in the next 1-2 years?"

Once I was seated at the President's request and I had a little conversation, I informed my godfather, Senator Walker Smith, of the status of the Middle East that I had just explained to the President.

So far, this is already promised to the President.

[Seongsu, you are right.] [Thank you.] [It can be one year or two years, but even if the oil shock you talked about happens in two years, it won't be enough time for me to prepare.] [That's why you need to hurry.] [That's correct, let's do what you told me. I don't know if it will work or not, though.]

This was the last one that I conversed with the President over a drink of makgeolli.

'Anyways, this is what I recall.'

There was an Arab push to initiate war.

Egypt desires to gain back control over the Suez Canal.

Syria desires to win back the Golan Heights, and the Arab nations desire to regain the pride they once had, thus war is not far away.

'And what is important is.'

The reality is that Saudi Arabia, which can be referred to as an American-friendly country, gave the Egyptian military in excess of $400 million. And it insisted that the United States halt its support of Israel.

The United States refused that.

From there, Saudi Arabia and other Middle Eastern oil nations started weaponizing oil in earnest, threatening not to sell oil to nations cooperating with the United States and beginning to cut back on oil production.

Consequently, world oil prices will skyrocket.

'What's more important here is.'

The US military was to withdraw in full on March 29, 1973, according to the Paris Peace Accords.

There is roughly a year remaining.

Actually, the U.S. troops started pulling out in 1969."

The South Korean military is plugging the fighting gap that emerges when the U.S. military partially withdraws.

And the United States government doesn't have faith in the government of South Vietnam, and the United States military considers the South Vietnamese regular army to be a rabble.
