Chapter 11 - CHAPTER 11

She explained more interesting aspects of the religion that she had recently learned. She promised to give everyone their gifts the next morning. She introduced as a very bosom friend and told everyone that she would stay for some time. She later left with her Kwekwe and the other stepmothers and distributed gifts. Luvuno chatted with them for a while and excused herself to pray. Bahati had earlier requested to be shown her room to rest. She had become addicted to this serene atmosphere and she was sleepy already. Her initial though that her insomnia might be triggered when she slept in a new place was now resolved. Their rooms were adjacent.

They woke up the next morning at the cocks' crow. They quickly integrated themselves into the countryside life in no time. She had given everyone their gifts. Luvuno had quickly adjusted as she was born in the place while Bahati on the other hand took some time. It was understandable though. She even became very close with Kwekwe. This was initiated by Kwekwe though as Bahati is a taciturn and quiet person. She is not very active in interactions. Kwekwe especially organized a recognition ceremony where parties involved would spill a drop of blood in milk and then they both drink and would become related. She had wanted to recognize Bahati as her daughter and had Luvuno go through the ceremony with Bahati. They then later on presented it to her and this proved to show the bond. Bahati was moved tears and Kwekwe calmed her down. Life in the countryside was very peaceful.

Her hometown was very remote and thus to access internet you had to walk some distance. Her siblings had a one month holiday. Her older stepsiblings were away working in different places. Her older siblings were for one in their countries working different jobs only coming home once in a while.

Her days were of relaxation more of mind and she also registered herself to the nearby clinic. A month passed in a flash and Bahati had to return. Her belly had increased as well. The other kids also had to go back to school. She had bonded more with Hussein as he accompanied her for checkups at the clinic. She secretly gave him more pocket money and even had him memorize her number to call her when he needs something in school. She however doubted whether he would do so as he had become extremely sensible to the point it was gratifying and even heartbreaking. It was a really complicated feeling. He had grown too fast.

As the week passed. The homestead came to a calm. The stepmothers and her mother went to the shamba to plant various crops or to weed. They usually had something to do. Luvuno had started teaching herself to recite the holy book and she did so when she was free. She busied herself and made quite a progress. Doctor Tamara informed her that although her current development was positive, she needed to give birth on an advanced hospital.

Doctor Tamara had also informed her together with Bahati that her husband who was jobless was managing their company and though they argued about the ownership rights sighting some other excuses were denied. This showed how true to her word she was. They had a rocky relationship as it was an arranged marriage where they didn't know each other prior to the official wedding. She reassured them not to worry in that he was very qualified and she would never divulge their identities even to her husband. John had informed her that Daniel and Priscilla were crazily looking for her since she was out of town, they were bound to be disappointed. She also never mentioned her hometown to Priscilla. Since the acquisition of ownership rights, she had blocked Priscilla on every social handle. She didn't want to do anything with her, such a venomous woman was not fit to be kept close. She wondered why she had a deep hatred since Daniel was very rich to bother with her, so the only explanation was that he was instigated by Priscilla. Bahati was safe since their target was her alone. Time passed in a flash.

Luvuno was now eight months pregnant and Doctor Tamara had volunteered to be the midwife. John had also come across some Intel that was very detrimental on a negative aspect for Daniel's family. There was actually some cases on how they had framed lots of parties and killed various families to acquire their wealth. Luvuno told him to hold on to the information till she gave birth as she wanted to participate in their persecution. She then planned to go back and prepare for her due time to deliver. Luvuno informed Bahati, kelvin, john and Doctor Tamara on her travelling date. On the D-day, she bade farewell to her family. Kwekwe wanted her to deliver in Makina but she explained everything and the risks associated and she eventually gave in. Luvuno went to the railway station under the accompaniment of her family members. She hugged every family member and bade farewell. She settled in her cabin and the journey started. She had booked for a first class service and she rested quite well. She had pre occupied herself with watching different drams and alternated with sleeping. She reached by six o'clock in the evening as they had made some several stops. She got out of the station and saw Bahati on the farthest end of the side walk. She decided to stretch her muscled and walk all the way. Her luggage was already being handled and Bahati had received them. Just as she neared the end of the side walk, she was knocked over by a motorbike and then the rider sped away. Blood slipped her thighs as she slowly lost consciousness.
