Happy.
That's what I'm feeling right now. Although the fog shrouded almost the entire forest, it didn't dampen my spirits to attend this one-time event. The entire pack will be present, except for Bloodfang. Yes, they've been enemies with my pack for almost half a century. My Alpha, Draven of Stromhowl will announce my pregnancy. Finally, after three long years of waiting, I was pregnant.
However, an anxiety always bothered me. This pair of eyes. They called it a curse, a disgrace and that I was a deformed Luna.
It was painful.
I wasn't perfect because I couldn't shapeshift as quickly as the other Luna, or even the werewolves my age, but that wasn't why I was considered weak. My white hair was also considered unusual for the pack.
I soothed my heart as the future Alpha in my womb stirred. Yes, maybe he knew that his mother was saddened by the thought of those sneers and insinuations.
"Seraphine."
"Yes?"
"It's time. Everyone has gathered."
I nodded. A Beta named Talon picked me up at my room. He helped me walk because I was three months into my pregnancy. If it was a normal human, it would probably look small. However, my fetus was big. It already looked like it was 7 months old. The excitement returned when people smiled at my arrival.
"You are the most beautiful Luna in the entire pack, Seraphine. Your beauty is unmatched," said an Omega named Fenrir, which made me blush.
"Thank you."
"Seraphine," Draven called out which made me immediately welcome his hand.
But, suddenly, "Argh!"
"Look!"
What's going on? Those faces... why did everything change?
"She has betrayed me! Betrayed our pack!"
My eyes widened. What betrayal?
"Seraphine. You have defamed this pack. We know you had an affair. That fetus you carried is not my son!"
"Draven! That's not true! I never had an affair. This baby is your child. I swear on my honor!"
Draven let go of my hand so roughly that I almost fell over. My breath catches in my throat, not expecting my partner to say such a vile thing.
"How dare you lie in front of the pack? All the evidence shows that you have betrayed. Those blue and violet eyes, always a sign of disgrace. Now you bring even greater disgrace!"
"I know my eyes are not like the others, but that is no reason to accuse me of cheating. I love you, Draven. This baby is your son! The future of our pack!"
"Disgusting! That baby is a disgrace! He will never be accepted into this pack!"
My breath caught. I almost fell, but no one was holding me. Everyone was looking at me sarcastically. Why did everything turn out like this? I could only hold my stomach which suddenly felt painful for some reason.
"Your lies won't change the reality. You've embarrassed us all. You will be imprisoned for your treason!"
What? Even Talon said such vile things to me.
"What lies? Stop joking! Don't make fun of me! You've insulted me enough already!"
"Shameless. Frostfur, who have been considered the most pitiful, weakest and ostracized flock, I raised your status by marrying you. I should have listened to the counselors if you weren't the Luna the Moon Goddess paired you with. Frostfur lied to me, and I will repay them for deceiving me!"
"No! They are innocent of anything! I didn't betray you! I never cheated on you with anyone!" I shouted in defense. Sick of this nonsense.
"Bring him here!"
"Argh!"
"Fenrir?"
"Look at that face. Yes, we know you're in a relationship with Fenrir. That pathetic Omega."
"That's not true!" I shouted angrily. "Fenrir is the man who has been protecting me. But, I never-"
"Shut up!"
I was stunned. Draven slapped me. This is crazy!
"Take them both to prison. This treachery is unforgivable. We will attack Frostfur and put an end to the pathetic offspring of that pack, tonight!"
"Yeah!"
"No! Draven, stop!"
"Seraphine, run!"
I was surprised when Fenrir told me to leave. He turned into a wolf and attacked the Betas of the Stromhowl pack. Not wanting his efforts to be in vain, I ran as fast as I could. It's just that this big belly makes it impossible for me to transform.
"Argh!"
"Get her!"
I ran, dodging the attacks of the wolves that were trying to kill me, and my baby. They clawed at me and left me badly injured. As luck would have it, even though I was trapped in a human body, this little body was able to slip through the narrow cracks and tight tree trunks. The wolves, who were twice the size of humans, had a hard time reaching me.
" Goarr!"
"AAA!"
I closed my eyes as tightly as I could.
Die, I'm going to die!
I held my stomach, which was throbbing strongly. I could feel my body hitting hard objects as it hurt. Until suddenly, "Oh!"
I was sinking. Immediately, I swam up. I apparently fell off the cliff and into the river. With great difficulty, I tried to swim to the shore.
However, "Catch her! If not, kill her!"
He's out of his mind! Draven wants to kill me, with a baby in my womb?
I stumbled around holding my stomach. I kept running. I could hear the wolves' steps and howls, trying to get down the hill to reach me.
"Goddess... help me, help me...."
I could only cry as I continued to run on two human legs. I didn't want to die in this horrible way. I saw a stretch of forest ahead of me. I broke through and hid in a large tree covered in moss. I curled up, and tried hard not to let my cries be heard.
"She's gone into the cursed forest."
Doomwood.
My heart is beating fast. I know about this forest. Why... why this place? My tears subsided instantly and were now replaced with worry.
"There's no way she can get out. The forest will eat her alive. She will die in there. Hem, what a punishment for a traitor!"
I recognize that voice, Draven, my mate. I shut my mouth tightly. The vile slander he utters stings more than the wounds on my body. I don't care anymore. I will die in this place.
I laid my fragile body slowly on the grass. I didn't know how I was going to die. I heard their footsteps moving away. Leave it alone. I'll stay here until death takes me, and my baby.
"Fenrir ...."
My tears welled up again as I remembered Fenrir, the Omega my late father trusted to always protect me when I had to leave the pack, for the honor of Frostfur. However, that man... Fenrir must have died. The Betas ganged up on him savagely. Guilt returned to my heart.
"I'm sorry, Fenrir ...."
I don't know how long I cowered in deep sadness. In the solitude and silence of the forest, suddenly, "Seraphine ...."
"Who is it?"
