Chapter 1 - Drawing a new species of crow

Frank Scotts was a wannabe author plain and simple. He loved reading stories with their characters and made up creatures.Even as a child he tried to write his own stories.

While he had a great imagination however he wasn't so good with stories. His ideas were amazing but his execution of those ideas was found wanting.

Frank Scotts was from a well off family who lived in the suburbs of the UK.They weren't rich by any means but they weren't poor.

Frank Scotts was nineteen and had finished high school but he didn't want to go to university and was looking for a job.The few friends he had were doing the same.

Frank Scotts wanted to be a writer but despite all his ambition he wasn't succeeding.Try as he might to improve his writing and research techniques in story writing it appeared as though he would never succeed.

To be fair though a number of famous authors had their works rejected time and time again but they succeeded in the end.Frank Scotts felt as though he had to try something different however. It was just a hunch but trying a different approach would be nice.

His family did want him to focus on getting a job and stop drawing. It wasn't in Frank Scotts to give up so easily however.

Perhaps he could be an SCP writer or a writer and artist like Trevor Henderson who would create his own universe with his own creatures inside of it.Get a massive following on one of those social websites with his art and writing.Yeah perhaps Frank was going about this all wrong.

Frank had never drawn before in his life but he was eager to try it now.He decided to go out to the local art store to buy A3 sheets of paper.Currently he had to think up ideas as well as watch videos on drawing techniques. He wasn't certain in how he would do at first so he had brought multiple A3 sheets of paper.

The next day Frank ran a hand through his blond locks and looked down with his green eyes at the sheet of A3 paper at his desk.It was evening and the temperature was decreasing outside as it was turning to night.

Frank turned the desk lamp on and sat at his birch wood desk.He lifted up his pencil and let it descend onto the A3 paper.Out of all the methods he chose he chose to draw freely as he had a clear image in his mind.He was going to draw a new type of crow and write about its features on the same piece of paper.

Frank decided to draw the crow to scale and accurately portray its dimensions in his mind.It had multiple features that distinguished it from other species of crows such as its larger size and sharper beak and talons. This seemed rather tame though so he decided to colour it in.

He added new features such as red open eye patterns on its back and chest. It also possessed a few red feathers in its wings and tail feathers in addition to the usual black.

Frank had chosen to draw a male crow but on the sheet of A3 paper it seemed rather lonely hence he decided to also draw a female variation which was slightly smaller and had an open eye pattern on its wings and tail feathers.

Now came the time to write about their features. He labelled the drawings as male and female respectively.

The Morrigan crow possesses the above appearance and a friendly temperament unless threatened or separated from its mate.

Frank thought for a moment before adding more information.

Morrigan crows usually mate for life and lay crimson red eggs being able to lay up to 3-5 eggs in a single batch. They are fiercely protective of their eggs, mates and flocks willingly attacking animals many times their size. They usually live for around 28 years and take 6 months to grow into adulthood.Morrigan crows possess the unique ability to disorient people with their caws and impart bad luck to those who view more then 20 of them at any given time. This bad luck increases in intensity the more morrigan crows one views at any single time. The bad luck can last from a few minutes to a number of months depending on unknown factors.Their flocks can number up to 12 to 18 crows. They are usually drawn to areas that have seen a lot of death and misfortune such as cemeteries and war zones.

Frank thought about what to add when a bird poo stain appeared on his bedroom window.

They are also incredibly hostile to pigeons. There are currently 30,000 of these birds scattered in flocks all around the world. They can be tamed as easily as regular crows and when tamed the person who tamed them will find themselves immune to the disorienting and bad luck effects of their presence.

Frank Scotts found himself feeling a sense of fulfillment and marked it with his signature. His first creation was complete and it was just the first one.He looked to the time and realised that hours had passed since he had began drawing and writing. He immediately went to bed and slept eager to draw something new tomorrow.
