Her husband was in his chambers. All she had to do was go in and tell him the good news. The smile on Ines' face couldn't stretch any wider.
Her skin was the finest in the pack, smooth and flawless. Her long silver hair flowed like silk, and her eyes were the purest among them all. Her figure was also unmatchedâeverything an Alpha could ever want. Except for one thing.
It was difficult for her to bear children.
No matter how many years she had been married to her mate and husband, today was going to be the happiest day of her life. She was finally going to tell himâshe was pregnant.
After ten years of marriage, they were finally going to have their first child.
For some reason, despite all these years of love and countless attempts, she had never conceived. No matter how many times they mated, she had never gotten pregnant. But now⌠now she was.
Ines wiped a stray tear from the corner of her eye.
"Will Max be happy knowing I'm pregnant? Would he argue with me about whether it's a boy or a girl?"
She stood there for thirty seconds, lost in thought. She didn't know why, but she couldn't stop imagining her mate's reaction when he found out.
As she stood there, smiling uncontrollably, her closest companion, Emily, grinned along with her.
"Luna, are you planning to stand there smiling like an idiot instead of sharing the good news with Alpha?"
Emily had been by Ines' side for the past ten years, ever since she became Luna. Talking to her like this wasn't offensiveâit was just how they were.
Ines nodded at Emily's words and wiped her tears away. She turned toward the door.
"You're right. I need to go tell Max. I shouldn't stand here wasting time."
Emily shook her head, but she didn't blame the Luna for her excitement. For years, Ines had been mocked by the pack for being a childless Luna. But she had endured, remained strong. And now, finally, she was pregnant.
She had every right to be excitedâto show off as much as she wanted.
Emily was excited for her too.
"Emily, what are you still doing there? Come with me!"
Ines called out in excitement to Emily, who was still standing inside the room.
Emily nodded and rushed to follow her Luna.

Innes finally arrived at her mate Maxwell's chambers. She smiled happily as she reached the door and turned to Emily.
"Wait for me here until I come out," she said.
Innes felt this was a private moment between her and her Alpha, so no matter how close she was with Emily, Emily shouldn't be present. She was only here with Emily because her mate had made it necessary for a powerful female Gamma to be both her protector and servant.
Emily nodded in understanding.
"Luna, you can go, have your private moment with your Alpha while I, this poor maid, just stand under the lonely moon."
Innes wanted to roll her eyesâEmily could be so dramatic. She barely nodded at her before slowly opening the door to her and her Alpha's chambers.
"Max, my lord, Maxwell dear," Innes called, excitement mixing in her voice.
She looked around, but no one was in the main chambers. She paused, thinking for a moment. Maybe he was in the bathing area. He might be taking a bath. She should go look for him.
So, Innes headed to the bathing chambers, but her feet suddenly stopped in their tracks as if chains had wrapped around them.
Her eyes widened in shock at the scene before her.
Her mate, Maxwell, was in the bathing pool, and a blue-haired woman clung to him in a posture as if she was about to kiss him.
Maxwell's eyes were closed as if he was ready to embrace the kiss coming his way.
Innes didn't know when the tears fell from her eyes.
Come on, Innes. It's just your own thinking. Find out what is actually happening, she convinced herself, trying to calm down.
She didn't want to dwell on the reason why her husbandâwho was always disgusted by any woman's touch except hersâwas now accepting the touch of this strange woman in the pool with him.
"Max," Innes called. Though her voice was faint, it was enough to make her Alpha's eyes snap open.
Max turned toward the sound of her voice, his gaze shifting from Innes to the blue-haired woman who was still clinging to him, as if moments away from kissing him.
"Gloria, back off," he commanded, his face expressionless, his eyes void of emotion.
He was always like thisâcharismatic, full of mystery, never revealing his thoughts. And he had never cheated.
Except today, Innes had caught him with this woman.
"Gloria," Innes repeated to herself. So that was the woman's name.
As Max ordered Gloria to get off him, the woman obediently stepped away. Her actions seemed harmless, almost submissive. But the moment Max turned away, she shot Innes a lookâan intimidating stare that sent a chill down her spine.
That look told Innes everything.
This woman was trouble.
And for the first time, Innes felt like someone was about to ruin the bond she shared with her mate.
Max didn't notice the silent exchange between them. He simply walked toward Innes as he stepped out of the pool.
As he got closer, Innes couldn't help but gulp.
Her husband seemed even more dangerous today. He was exuding an overwhelming amount of Alpha aura.
For some reason, alarm bells rang in her heart.
She tried to look at her mate with love, not wanting to seem afraid. Maxwell had always told her never to fear himâhe hated it. She remembered how cold his expression would become whenever she flinched away from him, as if he despised the idea of her fearing him just because he was an Alpha.
But the truth was, she was just a rogue werewolf.
a rogue who found him her mate in his pack.
And even though she had gotten used to it over the past few years, right now, she felt like an outsider again.
"Innes," Max called, and her heart fluttered.
She almost wanted to submit to him immediatelyâto be surrounded by his embrace, to feel the heat between them, and to never be separated.
"Alpha," Innes answered in a meek voice.
She was so caught up in her emotions that she didn't notice the shift in Maxwell's eyes.
Suddenly, his arm wrapped tightly around her neckâchoking her.
