Chapter 4 - I am the one who will 'Remain'

Chapter 4

While walking toward the city at a slow pace and admiring the new Earth, a beast appears in front of them.

"Ark, I want to fight this beast."

"Go on, but don't play with it, finish quickly."

Good, it seems he doesn't mind me calling him by his name.

A terrifying smile appears on Melody's lips, and the beast, which looks like a lizard with spikes on its back and a long tail with a spiked ball at the end, notices it. Seeing that smile, something tells it that it should run. But being the boss of its area, it can't do that.

"A only 10th level beast like you dares to stand in front of us?"

The beast gets enraged and starts to run toward Melody, ready to make her a pin cushion.

Melody, with the same smile on her lips, disappears from her spot and appears above the beast's head, hitting it with a normal fist. The beast's head explodes like a watermelon. Not a drop of blood lands on her.

She looks at her master and thinks, He is the real monster. I'm strong, but he is on a completely different level.

"Ark, do you want to cook this beast to see if it's tasty?"

"I should be asking you that."

"Hehe, I will start to make a fire."

While Melody busied herself with the fire, Ark went and prepared the beast.

"Melody, you will cook it."

And just like that, 3 days went by, and they were finally near the city. In front of them, they saw first a 100-meter-tall wall surrounding a massive city, with flying cars and flying people between the giant skyscrapers that reached kilometers high in the sky. And everything was inside a giant dome of transparent light.

"This is the city of Hope, the best protected city on Earth. That transparent barrier that extends from the wall up like a dome can withstand strikes from galaxy-conqueror fighters, so the beasts from Earth can't even scratch it."

"It does look so much better than the cities of old Earth. Let's go."

Walking toward the city entrance, they see other people walking, some riding beasts, some inside robot suits, some inside cars, but everyone was on their lane of the road. There was no chaos, no waiting lines, or problems when entering the city. The gate in the wall was 15 meters wide and 30 meters tall. Everyone had enough space in their lane to pass through the gate easily. The lane for walking people was pretty free because everyone was riding, driving, or flying something. So they got inside the city pretty easily, and after entering, immediately two robots came flying to them, starting to talk in the Uniakea language.

"Stop there, you are not in our database of citizens in the city. Who are you, and why are you here?"

"Ark, there are cameras everywhere, especially at the gate, and they are scanning everyone instantly. No one can pass through without being seen. Even if you are invisible, they can still see you."

Then Melody walks forward to them, and on her wrist, there is a black tattoo that she shows them. The robots scan it.

"Miss Melody Ember, welcome to the City of Hope."

Melody goes back to Ark, and she puts her hand over his wrist. A similar tattoo appears. Then he walks forward, and the robots scan his tattoo.

"Mister Ark Ember, welcome to the City of Hope."

"Please be sure to read the regulations of the city as soon as possible. You can find them anytime online on the city page. We wish you two a nice stay in our city. Goodbye."

And that was all it took to be part of the Earth citizens again. They start walking and enter the city officially with good papers like good citizens and all.

"It really is nice to enter through the front door, and not sneak through the back door."

"Ark, you really had it hard until now, didn't you? Being so strong, but having to be a good boy and restraining yourself from killing everyone who upset you."

Said Melody with a hint of smugness and a smile on her face.

"Melody, do you want to see the other dimension? I can send you there anytime."

"Hehe, big brother, did I ever tell you how much I love being next to you, and I don't want to ever leave you?"

"Well, we'll see about that."

While bickering, they walked further into the city, admiring everything. Inside the city, there was even more traffic, but everything flowed so smoothly. Everyone stayed in their lane, and if anyone wanted to stop and get out of their lane to do their thing, they just stopped easily and said a word—out—in the Uniakea language, and they were teleported to the sidewalk. It didn't matter if they were riding a beast or inside a car. Before they were out of the lane, they put their beast inside the beast space, and the cars could become small like toy cars and be put inside the space ring or the pocket.

After they were teleported out, the traffic started to move again on that lane. Those who wanted to make a left or right turn just said their intention in the Uniakea language, and a space opened up to allow them to go into the right or left lane.

The stores were as big as a football field from old Earth, and those were among the smallest ones.

You could see maps of the city every 50 meters, so you could find everything easily.

"Ark, can we eat something before we go to the Hunter University?"

"Okay, let's go to where it seems there are a lot of people, and we can hear news while eating too."

They reached the front of a restaurant called Champion's Food. They went inside, and the place was more than half full, with most patrons being young kids and a few non-human people, like elves, dragon kin, demons, and beast kind (with cat ears, dog ears, and fox tails).

They sat down at a table, and while they waited, a waitress, a dragon kin, came to them and asked what they would like.

"We want everything on the menu."
