Chapter 1 - Team 7

'It could be worse.' Sasuke thought while kissing Naruto, pulling back only to let out a dismissive huff, using his sleeve to wipe his lips off.

"Be more careful Naruto, next time I won't respond kindly to such actions." His voice was deep and calming, soothing to the frayed nerves of women seething with jealousy in the classroom. Returning his gaze out the window he ignored the class, using birds, distant landmarks, and passing villagers to train his perception.

The kiss could've been worse if Naruto hadn't brushed his teeth or left them to rot, given how he lived in his apartment. Thankfully, the yellow-haired menace was good at self-care, better than even some of the females that fawned over Sasuke. It had been a few months since Sasuke had been 'awakened' from his slumber, from the furthest reaches of his mind to 'interact' with the outside world. Like an eternity spent in darkness only receiving surface memories, the occasional emotion with a deep flicker of hatred that burned brightly.

When he first woke up in his new predicament he didn't curse, instead, he thought of how bad it could've been for him. He could've been born as a random mob character, being someone alive before the nine-tails attack, only to die within it. No, instead he was made into a character he knew, at least the bare minimum of, so he could 'plan' ahead. As well as the knowledge that his baseline was solid, so he spent the majority of his time since his 'Rebirth' as Sasuke to train. To begin to slowly alter his older personality into a newer, less angry, more focused one, taking a few months to make the change seem natural.

He had chosen a more aloof personality since other than anger, hate, and twisted love, the genes available to him as a Uchiha helped mute the rest. It's not that he prevented himself from feeling it inwardly, but outwardly he had learned to control it better, preventing himself from reacting to it. It made going through the village much easier since even if he was a Uchiha, bad rumors still circled his family name given the reason the Nine Tail turned sour. It was clear as day to even civilians that an advanced Sharingan had been used, though given his family's reputation, and the authority most still held on his shoulders because of it.

Most preferred to keep it more quiet, or even tamed when compared to the rumors circulating Naruto. Even if the Uchiha Police Force had been ended, replaced by the Konoha Police Force, few dared to cross lines in his sightline, even fewer in earshot.

To any other person, trained to be a stalwart Ninja or not it might cause anger, but to the 'new' Sasuke all it did was remind him it could still be worse. From pages on a book, to moving pictures on a screen, he now lived in the world and knew of its truly hellish nature. Konoha was quite peaceful thanks to it's, all be it thin, relation between the ninja and civilians. They worked in tandem to provide for the economy, safety, and overall well-being of the village.

From study, Sasuke knew the relationship between ninjas and civilians was better, especially when compared to the first and second Hokage's time. The third had to work tirelessly to amend relations, as well as provide assistance to the villagers using the Genin as a bridge. The D-Rank missions provided not only money to Ninjas but easy, quite cheap labor for Civilians to make use of. Even a decent Genin was better than a healthy adult male, since they knew the basics of chakra manipulation and application.

So as he trained his perception he noticed the inner cogs of the village machine, noting how aspiring children looked up towards the academy building with stars in their eyes. That was only thanks to the over-dramatized way the elders spoke of it, saying it was training the future pillars of tomorrow.

Yes, it could be seen as brainwashing the masses if squinted, but some villages were far worse, some even demanding that you served military purposes no matter your skill level. At least within Konoha if you tried to be a ninja but couldn't keep up, you'd instead be placed into another school meant to learn many crafts, and arts, even supporting ninjas directly through these skills. But it also included a place to learn about advancing tech, science, and the like, something Sasuke was already planning to help further once he had more time.

While others filed out to their teams, his own was left waiting for an extended time, Sasuke ignored Sakura's rose-tinted gaze, and Naruto's inability to sit still. One of the many reasons he quite enjoyed having foreknowledge, is that if he had to deal with being made to wait without it, it would be annoying. His maturity also helped him see through the small test, Kakashi of all people had gone through many trials, so he knew Patience was a ninja's greatest weapon.

Sasuke and Sakura could hold on for quite a while but Naruto, forever in his antics had set up a trap for their team leader. Sasuke wondered if Kakashi would fall for it, since doing so would net him a nice reaction from the adults he would train. Originally Sasuke would believe Kakashi wouldn't fall for such a trick, only to be left aghast when Kakashi let it happen on purpose.

But it harmed the original mindset, making Sasuke believe Kakashi wasn't 'good' enough to train him. Not strong enough to train him to be better than his brother, not that the original Kakashi was very good at teaching the group to begin with. Which was something Sasuke couldn't fault him over, Kakashi wasn't used to the lighter rules in place at the academy now. Nor was he used to training anyone who wasn't already a glorified killer, so there were a lot of small things overlooked in the trio's best time to train.

The main reason Sasuke had already considered the future tossed, was because he was 15, not quite much older than he was in the 'canon' but enough to warrant a change. Sasuke had unlocked his Sharingan already when his family was killed, and the memories repeated within a genjutsu from his brother countless times. The trauma of the event had suppressed them to remain dormant, but Sasuke the moment he 'awoke' from his deep sleep had pierced the veil.

Not only had he been able to gain use of his fabled eyes, but he had gone far enough to be able to train them up to two tomoe in each eye. Already realized just how useful they would be in his career, since even without them activated his perception had taken a noticeable quality improvement. While his eyes were easier to train to improve his other senses fell behind, and it took much longer for his hearing, scent, and touch to improve. Not that it didn't show improvement of course, since if it was a month ago he wouldn't have heard the approaching footsteps.

Unlike other ninjas, these footsteps weren't hidden, but still measured, confident, and sturdy showing physical prowess. Hearing the turn of the knob from behind him, and the resounding thud of the eraser landing on Kakashi's head. While Naruto laughed out loud Sakura looked horrified, fearful that this small prank would lead them down a dark, hellish road.

If only she knew they were destined for hell far before their birth.

''My first impressions of you three is... Mediocre at best, meet me on the roof for a team briefing.'' With a minor barely noticeable burst of chakra Kakashi vanished, his speed being used to most likely go clean up while Sasuke stood. Heading for the roof with calm steps as Naruto rushed past him, at first trying to race him up, only to realize Sasuke had no intention to do so.

Sakura followed the both of them like a lost puppy, if not gazing star-struck at Sasuke's head, she glared at Naruto who walked a few steps ahead of Sasuke.

''Sakura I know you have some misconceptions about Naruto, either because he sucks at most tests, or annoys you with his boyhood crush. But we are a team now so you'll need to learn to get along, and to stop openly glaring at him while fawning over me... One day if you're ties are so easily shown they might be used against us.'' Sasuke spoke for the first time in the many hours they had waited, surprising both of his teammates, Sakura because she had thought she was better at hiding it.

As well as Naruto since he sensed no malice from the tone, instead he felt a strange sense of comfort from the words. Unaware that it was because he understood the nuisance of Sasuke's actions, seeing that he was just trying to patch things together in his way. Sasuke wasn't surprised that nothing was said afterward, understanding that bridging such a gap between them would take time.

Once they were on the roof everyone took a seat on a step, with Sasuke sitting on one of the lower ones. Only for Kakashi to appear within a swirl of leaves, an impressive display of the body flicker technique from the Jonin.

''Alright now that you're all here, we'll go over a few things like our names, likes, dislikes, and dreams of the future, I'll go first. My name is Kakashi Hatake, my likes aren't any of your concern, my dislikes are a never-ceasing list, and my dreams are none of your kid's business.''

''That gave us nothing!'' Sakura hissed while Naruto nodded, Sasuke letting out a short huff before responding.

''It wasn't supposed to it's a test, either on our ability to gather information on a Ninja, or on if we're aware of his Bingo book entry or not... This will be the former since with two orphans and a civilian, it wouldn't be strange if we never got to look at one.''

''Thank Kami one of you is smart.'' Kakashi let out a low chuckle as he shook his head.
