Chapter 18
IN REALITY, AFTER POSSESSED MOON VARIAN AWAKENED..
"Varian??" Hugo shakily asked, trembling at the sight of him. "You traitor!" Varian shouted as he drew his sword, ready to strike. But Quirin took the blow and got a large cut on his left shoulder. "Goggles! What are you doing?! You just hurt your own father!" Hugo demanded. "Not like you hurt me!" Varian retorted, shooting up black rocks from his palms. "Varian stop, this isn't you!" Hugo exclaimed. "Enough!" Varian enunciated, "They told me I was the villain, now I'm proving them right!" There was an epic battle between Hugo's alchemy and Varian's moon magic, and at one point, Varian had Hugo cornered against a wall and summoned black rocks around both of them, threatening to hurt him as Varian held Hugo's neck. One of the rocks managed to slowly cut Hugo's right cheek. "Varian please!" Hugo begged. Varian ignored him as he drew his sword, preparing to stab Hugo. Hugo's breathing quickened when he admitted, "No! Varian, please stop, you're scaring me!" Varian stopped and let go of Hugo as the black rocks shrunk. He felt Ulla leave him in that moment, he didn't realize the magic was also taken from him right away. His armor faded away as his hair returned to it's normal black, the blue strand now absent and his eyes shifted back to their normal blue. "Hugo.. I.." Varian started, but he stopped as he felt a sharp pain course in his chest and he was losing his balance. Ulla was human again, and she had a chip of what remained of the Moonstone, turning her ginger hair black and her eyes were still completely an ominous, surreal white but had a extremely small light blue dot in the center of them now. "Ah! I.. I don't feel so good.." Varian said as he collapsed. "Varian!" Hugo shouted in perfect sync with Quirin. "Goggles, what's wrong??" Hugo asked firmly. "I.. I can't feel anything.." He stammered. Then Varian noticed that his body was.. fading away? "What's.. happening to my body??" He weakly asked. "Oh no.. You're becoming the next moon spirit, but that means you're turning into a ghost.." Hugo realized. "What??" Varian said shakily, his voice breaking, "N-No! I-I-I don't want to die!" Hugo protested, "You're not going to die Goggles! Just fight it!" Varian whimpered in pain before he gasped out, "I'm sorry.. for everything.." Varian then closed his eyes as Hugo tried to get him to stay awake. "No no no no no, Varian, Goggles hey, please, don't close your eyes, no, stop!" He pleaded. "Son... Please don't leave us.." Quirin joined as he tried to cuddle his child's body. Hugo began to cry once more, accepting that nothing could save him. "Varian!!!" He screamed in agony as he covered his teary eyes with his hands, "Please hold on for me, I need you, I love you God dang it!!" A female voice was heard in the distance after Hugo's confession, a familiar voice.. Rapunzel's voice. "Flower gleam and glow, let your power shine, make the clock reverse, bring back what once was mine, heal what has been hurt, change the fate's design, save what has been lost, and bring back what once was mine, what once was mine.." Hugo and Quirin turned to surprisingly see Princess Rapunzel with her short brown bob now gold but not long and her eyes completely yellow. The gold in her eyes disappeared shortly after she finished the incantation and her hair returned to brown as Varian's body was more visible and less transparent, and the blue strand in his hair returned as he opened his eyes, the blue in them glowing, Varian.. was alive once more, Ulla couldn't truly steal his magic, he WAS the magic, and now, he was going to protect his family and friends.
