Ursa had his eyes widened in shock at the bright screen floating in front of his face. Of course, he had an idea of what was it, considering how popular this kind of thing was in the literature world. However, all he read was fictional, and to find that something like this was real was unbelievable.
Still… What the hell is a justice warrior? That sounded so cringe.
"Boss, is there something wrong with the wall?" His first customer's question suddenly snapped him from his daydreaming. He shook his head quickly, trying to gather his thoughts – and see if this was just a hallucination – before smiling back at the customer.
"Sorry, I am dozing off. Just have a lot of thoughts, you know?" He said, making an excuse.
"Ah.. I get it." The customer nodded solemnly, buying the excuse in a heartbeat. There was even a pity on his face directed at Ursa. Even though the man didn't know anything about Ursa's background, he knew a teenager that was of high school age or just slightly older to work in a small, dark pub like this should have a difficult life. It would be stranger if Ursa had never had an existential crisis, the man thought.
Not knowing the complicated thing that the customer had about him, Ursa put two plates of his best salads and poured two glasses of water for the two shady customers on the corner of the building. He walked carefully, trying his best to ignore the bright screen that was floating annoyingly in front of him.
"Here is your order, Sir." He said politely, putting the food on the table.
The reply he got, though was something else. They didn't even turn around to greet him, one of them just grunted and grabbed something from his pocket and gave it to Ursa. There, Ursa saw about nine silver coins which was the exact price of the food they ordered. Ursa just grabbed them and walked away quickly, a thought formed in his head.
'How rude.'
He shook his head, going back to his spot behind the bar quickly. After all, there was something more urgent for him to do rather than thinking about two unpleasant customers, for example, the bright screen in front of him.
'System?' He muttered lowly.
[Host can just think about it instead of saying it out loud. The host can also turn off the screen by saying 'System, turn off'.]
Ursa blinked his eyes repeatedly, still having a hard time comprehending that this was real, not just a hallucination.
'What are you?'
[The Justice Warrior System is the will of the world to purge all the evils in the world. It will help the host expose all the evil things in the world and help make it a better place for everyone to live in.]
'Say what?!' Ursa widened his eyes, alarmed. 'Expose all the evil things in the world?! That is something that even a novel writer could even imagine, let alone me! I don't even know how to fight! And I still have to think of a way to survive, you know?!'
[Don't worry, Host. The system, of course, would never let you suffer from something trivial. As for the fight, with more missions you've completed in the future, you will find that the reward is getting more attractive, depending on the difficulty degree of the mission itself.]
'Why me, though?!'
[Because after some complex calculation, the system found that Host has a 77 percent degree of pureness, the highest among all the human beings in the world. It doesn't mean Host is an angel who cannot do wrong, but Host has a good consciousness to always want to help other people to get a better life even with a small action, and that is what is needed in the world.]
Honestly, Ursa had the urge to cry after that. While in the past, he joined a lot of volunteer activities to help more people around him without hoping to get anything in return, it was always nice that his good deeds were noticed and appreciated like this, and this time, the one who noticed him was the so-called 'will of the world'. Even though he still wasn't sure whether everything was real or it was just a hallucination from a misused drug he unconsciously consumed, at least, at this point, Ursa could appreciate this system.
'So, how do you work?' He decided to give this system a chance to try.
[The system has a detector that could pinpoint any injustice that happened close to the Host, and when that happens, the system will issue an emergency mission for the host to resolve the matter. The reward varies on the difficulty the mission issued and the reputation points the host gained from the mission.]
Ursa was alarmed once again when he read the last sentence. 'Reputation point? What is that? Is it related to my reputation? Do I really need to gain that? Isn't it enough just to help people and expose evil? And what if I accidentally offended someone that I couldn't afford?'
[Yes, Host. The reputation point is related to your reputation, and you can use it to upgrade your stats and buy props when the mall is open later. As for its necessity, it is, in fact, needed. Sooner or later, someone will notice that the criminal rate plummeted because of your action, and we don't want anyone evil to take advantage of that and claim that it was their doing. Don't worry about offending anyone, because that is exactly what you are going to do. You have a system here, the will of the world. There is no one you should fear if you have the system on your side.]
Ursa had a sweat dropped on his face, knowing full well that this time, the system was just bragging. Still, he could see the system had a point here, and even though he was still reluctant and afraid of doing something that could paint a target on his back, Ursa decided to trust the system.
'So, what will happen now?'
Just as that question popped inside his head, the loud, electronic ping sound could be heard once again inside his head, and the small screen popped in front of him for the second time in a row in the last few minutes.
[DING!]
[Mission alert!]
[Investigate the two shady customers in the Dons bar and expose their evil doing!]
[Reward: Open the personal stats!]
[Punishment: Unknown.]
[Good luck with your first mission, Host! May justice be with you.]
