Chapter 3 - Sudden annoyance

Chapter 03

Noah got to school early the next day as usual and waited for the class to fill up with students.

After an hour and thirty minutes, the day's activities began.

Noah listened to most of the classes that taught about ability-related subjects. After close to six years of studying at Dragon High, everything still bored him.

Apart from training ability users, Dragon High also teaches normal subjects, and after graduation, a student can decide whether to attend a college for a normal job or a university that is ability-related.

Although normal humans are allowed to attend the schools for ability users, there are barely any normal humans in these schools. They see this as a disadvantage for themselves, and they are not wrong. Some ability users would just abuse them, so what's the use?

In a few seconds, the teacher walked out, and it was a free period at the moment.

Noah sat on his own as always, reading a book, while right in front of him, a certain someone was surrounded by students. Mary gained a lot of attention not just because of her relation to the white tiger guide master but also because she was considered beautiful by the boys as well.

"I heard the white tiger took down the most notorious criminal in Vietnam, is that true?"

"What level is your telepathic ability?"

"Would you be taking over the white tigers if your dad retires?"

"Your hair is so silky, what product did you use?"

Students kept bombarding her with questions, and she couldn't help but stammer over which one to answer first. There were just too many voices speaking and messing up her thoughts.

Noah, on the other hand, was getting fed up with all the noise. He hadn't heard so many voices so close to him since the seat in front of him was never occupied. On regular days, only the voices from the class disrupted his reading time, but he could handle it. But the current scene in front of him was too much, so he picked himself up and left.

"Parked like ants, so annoying," Noah mumbled before leaving the class. Nobody cared that he left the class except Mary, who forcibly pushed her eyesight from the crowd of students towards Noah, who had just walked through the door and was heading—who knows where?—into the distance.

"I'm sorry, I have to use the restroom," she said while rushing out. She obviously lied about wanting to go to the restroom. She wanted to go after Noah, who was no longer in sight.

____

Up on the roof, Noah sat on the cement floor and read his book peacefully when suddenly the doors to the roof opened.

"Huh?" Noah saw a short girl with long brown hair. He wasn't expecting anyone to be here since it's restricted, but Noah was an exception, restrictions never stop him from doing what he wants to do.

"There you are," the girl said with a smile as she carefully strolled over to him. Noah, seeing this, closed his book and laid it on the floor gently. "You're harder to find than I thought."

This came as a surprise to Noah because no one had ever confronted him for anything before. This was the first time someone he didn't even know approached him. But he wasn't too sure the person was here for him.

"What business do you have here? This place is off-limits." Noah informed the unknown girl in a depressing tone.

"Doesn't that restriction apply to you? I'm not here to cause any trouble. I'm here to say thank you." the girl, who was obviously Mary, said with her smile getting wider.

Noah was as confused as a person being accused of murder. He wasn't sure what this person meant.

"For what exactly? I don't remember performing any good deeds," Noah told Mary.

"You don't remember what happened yesterday in the 23rd district. You saved me from those normies. If it wasn't for your help, I didn't know what would have happened to me."

"You again? I told you. I didn't do anything to help you. Those goons picked a fight with the wrong fellow at the wrong time." Noah protested vehemently.

He has been getting interrupted by people these days, and it has started getting on his nerves. He's like a magnet attracting intermission. What's worst is if someone were to continue irritating him with their presence. Then he'd have no choice but to get rid of that person permanently, which was a lot of work and took time.

"Still, it counts as a save. As you know, I'm telepathic. So I'm not much of a fighter, and even if I were, I couldn't have done anything to break the law. And that's why I'm here to ask if you got in trouble for doing what you did yesterday." Mary had her hands positioned on her hips and her elbows turned outward. The breeze blew her hair back, making her long hair wag astonishingly.

It was like she was posing for a modeling photo shoot. It didn't hurt that she totally had the looks to go with it as well.

"One thing you should know about me is that I don't talk to weaklings. Get lost and never show your face to me again."

"But…"

Mary wanted to object, but before she could say anything else, Noah yelled, which startled her.

"GET LOST…"

"I just want us to be friends, that's all."

"I don't need chubby affections. If you're not leaving, I'll make you leave." Noah barked as an extremely horrifying aura exuded from his body.

Unimaginably horrendous killing intent filled the surrounding atmosphere and covered the whole roof. Even diamonds would be reduced to nothing but small granules under the pressure.

Mary, the one who was actually at the receiving end of it, felt her body getting heavier and heavier like she would plummet to the ground anytime soon. She wanted to hold her ground and show Noah that she wasn't a weakling like he thought.

'Such power. This could be a test... I can hold it a little longer." Mary believed she could take the aura head-on, but after a few seconds of intense heftiness, her legs felt like noodles and they could no longer carry her weight. She gave in and fell to her knees.

"Ho...w are...you so...powerful?" Each time she uttered a word, she had to take a deep breath before saying the next word. Sooner, she discovered that Noah was nowhere to be found; he had left the vicinity.

___

A loud, piercing sound entered the ears of the students as the electric bell was rung. It served as a reminder to everyone that all the classes were over.

School classes may have ended, but that didn't mean it was the end of the school day.

Everyone at their school was required to attend some extracurricular activity clubs. since it was impossible to circumvent this mandatory requirement.

Noah had somehow managed to skip participating in clubs for the past 6 years, but this year was different because he'd be partaking in after-school activities.

Noah could be seen standing under the sun in the open fields with several other students. He wore black shorts and a black t-shirt to go with them. On the front of the t-shirt was the word "Die" embedded in blood-like red letters.

Every other student wore green and blue sports shirts, but Noah was the only odd one among them. And this earned him a lot of critical stares and ridicule from students around, but if only they knew Noah didn't care about their opinions.

At the moment, Noah was taking part in his mandatory extracurricular club activity. It would be an understatement to say that Noah wasn't really in the mood for it.

A boy with an afro hairstyle was in front of the students, giving an unaccounted lecture and blabbering about strength and stamina.

A girl with long brown hair hid in the crowd of students staring at Noah. It was Mary, and she recently joined the sports club only to run into Noah.

She was deprived of her confidence immediately after she saw him. She didn't know what was happening to her, but she was starting to get frightened by the mere presence of Noah after the little stunt he pulled on the roof.

'I'm staying as far away from him as possible, I don't want him doing that thing to me again.'She couldn't notice, but she was fidgeting, and beads of crystal sweat could be seen on her forehead.

"Hey, are you okay?" a girl standing beside mary asked. She had a small hand mirror held in front of her as she applied more lipstick to her already pink lips. "I don't know what's up with you, since you ran off earlier. You haven't been yourself.."

This girl's name was Blossom Wallfire. She's a brunt who is the captain of the cheerleading team. She presents herself as the standard for the beautiful, modern-day maiden.

She did her utmost to display the image of beauty, elegance, and a drama queen. But while she appears flawless, there is enough drama going on in her head that no one knows about.

"Hehe, I'm fine, just the sun getting hotter and hotter and that's making me uncomfortable. I'm not just used to getting under the sun yet." Mary explained with a smile that was as fake as a politician's promise.

"Yeah, the sun is crazy hot today. This would have made it a perfect time to take a fabulous selfie if I wasn't stuck here with these losers." blossom remarked, withdrawing the lipstick from her lips, and examining her lips in the mirror.

Once the students were all well-rounded, John, the boy in charge of the sports club, selected the strongest student, Vernon.

He's the pride of Dragon High when it comes to speed. He's a speed ability user, and no one in their generation had ever beaten him when it came to speed.

Vernon had very pale yellow skin and wavy, curly hair that had just the right amount of curls. To top it off, his body was that of a naturally lean bodybuilder, seemingly designed to excel in sports.

"He's so hot, just look at those muscles," Blossom whispered to Mary while looking at Vernon. "On the muscle aspects, I mean. I never found much about that guy except his speed and his very obsessive over sports too. By the way, who obsesses over things these days?"

"Says the girl who brings a mirror to the sports club," Mary mumbled before turning back to stare at Noah, who just stood still like a tall boulder.

"I won't mince my words, we all know that Vernon here is the fastest in our time. And too bad no one had ever beaten him to a race. His is the best." John smiled and hit Vernon in the back softly, praising and rambling about him. "Now who wants to go with Vernon and humiliate themselves today?"

John said, scanning the students. He had been with the sports club since the beginning. So he knew which faces were new and which weren't. And those that had gone up against Vernon and lost miserably.

"I'll go." A hand was raised from the crowd, and everyone's attention went to the student's hand that was raised. John knew this was a new student because he hadn't seen that face before.

The student walked forward and stood at the start point of the field.

"Good luck, Mary!" blossom cheered from her spot, trying to encourage her friend. Mary actually told her she wanted to race with Vernon and surpass him. But Blossom only scoffed and gave her the go-ahead gesture. "Don't humiliate yourself too much, okay?"

'His watching, this is my chance to prove to him that I'm not a weakling'
