Jax woke up in a cold sweat, he couldn't shake his uneasy feeling, he looked around his dark bedroom. He felt a tap on his shoulder and he swung his head to his right quickly, he calmed down after seeing who it was. The figure walked over and sat down on a half broken chair, the room itself wasn't anything spectacular. For starters the bed that he was sitting on was just barely hanging on for its life, a few of the boards popping out from beneath it and every time he moved it would creak and whine like it was going to die at any moment, The rest of the room wasn't much better off either, with the wallpaper peeling everywhere and holes all along the walls.
"You almost gave me a heart attack be more careful", He couldn't hide the shake in his voice. The slender figure spoke quietly, seemingly embarrassed "Well i tried waking you up without scaring you, don't be so mad" Jax rolled his eyes. The moon started shining through the window hitting the figure, the bright light from the moon lit up the figures slender but shapely figure, her bright blue eyes and black hair seemed to sparkle in the moonlight.
Heather stood up making her way over to Jax's bed and sat down on it, The bed groaned under the pressure of another body threatening to finally give in. Jax looked at heather "Well why did you come here anyways", his eyes watched her nervously waiting for her to say something, She sat there for a while staring out the window looking out on the darkly lit wasteland.
She finnaly spoke up,turning towards him and sighing loudly "I saw some humans out towards the east fighting a horde of the morphs" Jax shot up in the bed leaning closer towards her "Wait what, were you able to help them", she shook her head "No by the time i tried they were all killed and i had no choice but to turn around, there were too many for even me to finish off all by myself".
Jax reached out and grabbed her hand holding it for a while "Hey it's not your fault okay", Heather gave him an unconvincing smile. The world they now lived in was harsh and ruthless, normal humans didn't survive out there anymore after what the government did. Jax and Heather were only kids when it first happend, when the first morph appeared. The government was experimenting on making super humans, giving them what some would call superpowers, but something went wrong with one of the experimentations causing a few humans to turn into what they now called morphs.
Jax and Heather were a special pair they were both raised up by the goverment as children, neither of them had the luck of knowing their parents, all they knew were the white dim walls that surrounded them at all times and the people that were always dressed up in white hazmat suits that would come in and bring them food. They were both some of the starting experiments that the goverment did when trying to create superhumans, as far as Jax and Heather knew they might have just been the only successful case of creating superhumans with powers. However after creating the morphs the goverment begin fearing their other creations and decided that it was only right to destroy them.
Jax and Heather were normally kept separate because when together there powers reacted towards each other, it was as if they fed off of eachother and grew stronger when they did. All they could remember from that point was the blood splattering on the floor and walls staining the white walls red and Jax grabbing Heather's hand as they ran out of the compound, there little legs carrying them far away into the dark forest.
Jax was still holding Heathers hand rubbing it gently, his tan olive skin contrasted with Heathers pale white skin. Jax looked at her contemplating what to say, "I had another nightmare right before you came in, i can't stop thinking about the men in white suits and those long needles they would poke us with and how much it hurt" Jax grimaced as he spoke, Heather piped up next "You should try and forget about it jax we aren't little kids stuck in those little white rooms anymore" Jax nodded agreeing with her slightly and then grinned up at her "your right we are much stronger now".
They sat like that on the bed for a little while longer enjoying eachothers company before speaking again, Jax was the first to say something "it sucks that those humans died we haven't seen another living person in months now", Heather nodded "we need to eventually travel further out and try to find more people jax, we can't keep staying here just because it's safe".
Jax had a sour look on his face "let's talk about it later okay, did you find any food", Heather sighed and turned around grabbing the sack up off the ground that was standing up supported by the leg of the bed frame, "i couldn't find much today, that store is running out of good edible food and the morphs have killed most of the animals around here". She rustled through the sack and pulled out some cans of baked beans and some spam, Jax sighed heavily "i think your right heather, we might have to travel out further, we won't be safe here much longer".
Jax sat up and got off the bed, the bed groaned in defiance as he stood up and walked over to the small table, he placed the food down on its surface, the table had tons of marks and scratches all over it and it wobbled slightly as he placed the cans of food down. "We should eat and then sleep we have a lot to do tomorrow", Heather stood up nodding "sounds good to me", she smiled and walked over to the table and sat down on one of the rickety chair they had scavenged, it squeaked slightly as she sat down, jax followed suit sitting down in his own chair which wasn't much better itself it sounded like it was going to break as he sat on it.
Jax started forming shadows from around the room into his hand creating a knife and easily sliced into the cans opening the beans and the spam for them. They sat and ate in comfortable silence for a while, Heather cleared her throat "i'm getting sick and tired of cold nasty food, i want a nice hot plate of steak and baked potatoes" Jax smiled and laughed "yeah keep dreaming", they both finished up eating, "i'm getting tired heather let's hit the hay" Heather nodded in agreement "yeah me too".
Jax stood up and walked over to the bed and slipped in under the cover, it squeaked and groaned at him as usual, Heather joined him making the bed fuss even more. Jax could feel the heat radiating off of Heather from under the covers as he stared up at the ceiling, "goodnight heather" he turned towards her looking at her, her blue eyes already covered by her eyelids opened slightly "goodnight jax". They both fell asleep for the night enjoying the warmth of eachother.
