Chapter 24: The Unexpected Arrival
Just as I was about to press Babatune for more answers, a commotion broke out at the entrance of the clearing. A woman, tall and stately, with a commanding presence, strode into the clearing.
Her hair was a wild tangle of grey and black locks, and her eyes gleamed with a fierce inner light. She wore a long, flowing cloak, embroidered with intricate patterns that seemed to shimmer and glow in the fading light.
"Mama Yagu!" Babatune exclaimed, rushing forward to greet her.
Mama Yagu's eyes swept the clearing, taking in the scene before her. Her gaze lingered on me, and I felt a shiver run down my spine.
"Ah, the young hero," she said, her voice low and husky. "I see you've already dealt with the threat."
Her eyes narrowed, and she turned to Babatune. "What happened here?" she asked, her tone sharp.
Babatune explained the situation, and Mama Yagu listened intently. Her expression grew increasingly surprised, and when Babatune finished speaking, she let out a low whistle.
"Well, well, well," she said, shaking her head. "I didn't expect that. The Great Evil, defeated so easily?"
She turned to me, her eyes glinting with curiosity. "You must be quite powerful, young hero," she said.
I shrugged, feeling a little embarrassed. "I just did what needed to be done," I said.
Mama Yagu chuckled, a low, throaty sound. "Modesty becomes you, young hero," she said. "But I think there's more to you than meets the eye."
She paused, studying me intently. "I am Mama Yagu, a trainer of heroes. And I think you might just be the hero I've been searching for."
