David's POV
She stared at me, her pale and flushed face a mask of confusion and her mouth partly open.
The sight of her did nothing but infuriate and repulse me. Call me inhumane but I kinda wished she hadn't woken up.
But then, staring back at her, I realized that this wasn't the same woman I had married. The woman I married was lively and deceptive and had that 'spark' in her eyes. But this pathetic woman sitting down on the bed had nothing of those qualities.
She looked… different! Dull! Even… lost?
Is it because of her amnesia? Or was she playing games again? She loves playing games. Wait, did she really have amnesia? Is this another of her schemes? The Diane I know would cook up any story just to manipulate anyone to get what she wants. And she's a pretty good actress!
Yeah, she's probably faking it!
I hated her! I hated her to the brim! I don't even know why I got married to her in the first place! What have I seen in her that made me so attracted to her that I had to rebel against my whole family and nearly risk my career and my legacy just to be with her?
She was a cheater, a liar, a nymphomania, and many more! Ever since she came into my life, it's been nothing but chaotic, shameful, and disastrous!
She's a harm to society!
She dared go behind my back and have sexual relations with her costar! And as though that wasn't enough, she had a fucking one-night stand with Harry Lodge, of all people! My long-term rival!
"Don't stare at me like a damn fool, I said sign those papers!" I thundered viciously.
"I don't…" She opened her mouth to speak but was cut off by her manager.
"Sorry, not sorry, but don't you think you're being a little too inconsiderate, Mr Fox?!" Her manager… what's her name again?... said rising to her feet. "Mrs. Fox has just woken up from a coma; even if you both weren't on good terms before the incident, shouldn't you at least wait for her to get better before you push this divorce issue further?"
I glared at her and she cringed a little under my gaze. "Well maybe, she should've signed the divorce papers before her beauty sleep!" I retorted.
"Hold on…" Diane muttered, still confused as she stared at us. "Divorce? Why are you divorcing me? Did I do something wrong? I thought you were supposed to be my husband."
"Oh, quit the act, Diane!" I spat. "I know you! Your skills won't work on me any longer! You might have fooled the doctor or who knows, you might be working with him! But I'm not the fool I once was a year ago!"
"She's not faking it, Mr Fox!" Her manager defended. "She really does have amnesia!"
"Well, I don't give fucking fuck!" I snapped thunderously. "You better sign those divorce papers or you'll be facing a long and ugly court battle! And you know, the Fox family never loses a battle! We can do this the easy way or the hard way. Lewis will come get the papers tomorrow, so I trust you'd do the right thing."
And then with that, I spun on my heels and walked out of the room, with Lewis trailing behind me.
"Mr Fox," Lewis called as we reached the elevator, then he thumbed the call button. "Well, forgive me for saying this but I think she really does have amnesia. I don't think she's faking it. Didn't you see the way she looked at you, she didn't even recognize you. Or me."
"You seem to have forgotten that she was one of the best actresses in Hollywood with different Oscars." I reminded him as the elevator dinged open. I stepped in and he joined me. "She might be faking it for all we know. You know her, she's a pretty great manipulator. Besides, Luna and I are back together now, and she's pregnant with my son."
Luna was my ex-wife. She was the first woman I had tied the knot with, and even though our marriage was an arranged one, we still managed to make it work.
Well, not until the board management made the decision to make Diane our brand ambassador. And then in a twinkling of an eye, we became a thing and went public. My marriage with Luna shattered and then I remarried Diane… which was my greatest mistake.
But now Luna and I are back together, happier than ever!
"I guess you're right," Lewis said in an unconvincing voice as he raised her shoulders, then he thumbed the floor button.
I knew he liked Diane and didn't like Luna but that was his problem, not mine.
The elevator reached the last floor and dinged open. We got off and made it to our car, which was parked outside, but then they appeared.
They appeared out of nowhere… the way a tiger attacked its prey… with their cameras flashing on our faces, practically blinding me.
"Mr Fox, is it true Diane Fox is awake?"
"What's your plan now that she's awake?"
"Is Diane Fox agreeing to polyamory?"
"Does she know you're now back with your ex-wife"
"Do you plan on divorcing her?"
"Is it true she cheated on you with her costar, Luke Parker?"
"Are the rumors that she had a one-night stand with your long-term rival, Harry Lodge, true?"
God! If there's one more living creature I hate on earth more than Diane, it's these fucking journalists! I wanted nothing more than to grab them and break their limbs into pieces! Why can't they all just burn in hell?!
Fucking annoying set of humans!
And how on earth did they all receive this intel that Diane's awake?
God! If there's one more living creature I hate on earth more than Diane, it's these fucking journalists! Why can't they all just burn in hell?!
And how on earth did they all receive this intel that Diane's awake? She just woke up fucking few minutes ago! It hasn't even been an hour yet!
Lewis and I barely managed to push our way through the crowd and got into the car.
"Great! Just great!" I muttered under my breath, my jaw tightening in utter frustration.
"Are you okay back there Mr Fox?" Lewis asked glancing back at me. I felt that he was mocking me.
Which in actuality, he was.
"Shut it and just drive before I break your neck!" I snapped murderously.
"Sure thing sir." He replied, flashing me a smile, ignoring my vicious tone and then he set the car into motion and then drove across the street of Las Vegas.
As we drove in silence, I had one thought in my mind.
She's awake... and I know things aren't gonna remain the same.
