Chapter 4 - My Diane

Luke's POV

"Wait!" I screamed as I ran after her. "Renee, please wait!"

The rain lashed down relentlessly, turning the road into a slick, waterlogged mess. My clothes clung to me, soaked through, and chilled to the bone. Yet, I hardly noticed the cold, my focus on Renee as I ran after her.

I can't let her go, she's my life… my everything. I don't think I can live without her. I can't even begin to imagine a future without her in it.

I reached her and grabbed her arm then spun her around. "Wait! Please don't go!"

"Get your filthy hands off of me!" She shrilled, snatching her hand away. The tears shedding out of her eyes mingled along with the rain, her top glued to her body and I could tell she was cold from the way she was trembling. "I'm so so tired of this! I'm so tired of trying! You're always working, you don't have time for us, we hardly speak to each other! And when we do, you're always tired! It's like I'm in a relationship with myself!"

"I'm so sorry I made you feel that way, Babe," I begged as I took her hands again. "Believe me, I'm trying, I also want this to work. I want us to work. Just give me more time… as soon as I'm done with this new deal…"

"Babe…" She placed her hand on my face, looking up at me, tears still streaming down. "I know it's money that you worry about and I know you want to take care of me without relying on anyone. But… you don't have to worry about money. I have money. It doesn't matter from whose pocket it came as long as we're both happy. Why don't you quit your job and join me at my Dad's company…"

"You know I can't." I interrupted, staring down at the damp floor. "I don't want your dad to think of me as a failure."

"He won't." She said, making me stare into her eyes. "You know he won't. You know he likes you. Okay, I promise I'll see to it that he or anyone else treats you with the respect you deserve. I just want us to be happy together. I want us to go to the park like other couples, go on a beach, vacations, dates… just promise me you'll quit your job okay."

"Okay." I nodded.

I don't know why I agreed but I just did. Maybe it's because I've always wanted to.

"Thank you." She said the words into my mouth as she kissed me.

The feel of her lips on mine made me lose my sense of reasoning. I kissed her back, opening my mouth and sticking my tongue into her mouth.

My arms went around her waist, groping her tender butt, and her arm went around my neck, pulling me closer to her.

"Why don't we take this inside?" I suggested.

And she nodded.

"Cut!!!"

The director's voice cut through to us. My costar, Selena Perkins, and I instantly stopped playing our roles and moved away from each other as we trembled from the cold. The rain rig was turned off and taken away.

"Great job." The director complimented, followed by a round of applause by everyone on set. "Both of you."

I gave him a polite nod and thanked the God Almighty that we didn't have to repeat this scene.

"Next scene!"

I moved away from the set, and my manager, Gabe, brought me a towel to dry myself and a bottle of water.

I emptied the bottle in one gulp and then began to dry myself. I was so exhausted and all I needed was a good rest.

We've been filming for twelve hours now… well, mostly me… without rest, and thank God Almighty that I was already done with my scenes and the director had already granted me permission to go if I felt like it.

Only if my schedule for the rest of the day was empty.

"What's next on our schedule?" I asked Gabe as we moved to the bus.

He scrolled through his tablet. "Uh… actually, your schedule is empty for the next… twelve… no thirteen hours."

"Yes!" I jubilated and entered the bus, sliding shut the door behind me.

I was free!

I came out of the drenched clothes and put on a new pair of clothes. After I was done, Gabe came in and handed me my phone.

Our driver got in and then started the car.

"My phone please."

I spread out my hand and Gabe handed me my phone.

As the bus trudged down the road, I took a new selfie and was about to post it on my Insta when I saw the thousands of notifications. I've been tagged by everyone, especially vloggers and bloggers.

My curiosity got the better of me, and I decided to check them out.

She Is Back! Iconic Queen Diane Fox Has Finally Awoken!

As I saw the headline I paused. At first, I thought it was just a silly stunt to pull my attention, but when I began to scroll through my profile, nearly all posts were about her.

And then I saw her.

The video of her being harassed by journalists bombing her with silly questions. She didn't look good, not one bit. She could've fallen if that man hadn't stepped in at the moment to save her.

My heart began to race.

I've missed her. I've always felt empty ever since that day she fell down the stairs at her husband's home.

The kind of fear I experienced that day when I heard about her accident, is second to none. I was afraid I'd lose her.

She's finally awake! I have to see her as soon as possible!

"Hey, do you know about this?" I asked Gabe, showing my phone screen to him.

"Uh…" He hesitated, and at that instant, I knew he was aware.

"You knew?" I asked. "And you didn't think I had to know?"

"Well…" He trailed off, then he continued, "When I found out, you were still filming, and Mr Perez told me not to let you know."

"And why is that?"

"Well, because the rumors that the both of you had a fling have resurfaced once more, and he knows you'll try to meet her."

"Oh hell yeah, I will." I spat. "How could you expect me not to meet her when she's finally awake? What does that make me? A jerk?"

I leaned in on the driver and told him to drive to bus to Diane's penthouse.

"I'm sorry Luke, I can't." He declined stiffly. "I have explicit orders from Mr Perez to take you home."

"You're in on this too?" I queried, surprised.

"Sorry." He apologized. "My hands are tied."

I leaned back on my seat, resigned.

"I'm sorry Luke," Gabe began, "It's just that right now isn't a good time for the both of you to be seen together. You know the paparazzi are always stalking us. One photo of you two together can ruin this new film you're working on."

"Oh shut it!" I snarled, looking out the window.

I knew he was right. But I just wanted to see Diane. My Diane. I've missed her so much.

I can't wait to be with her.
