Chapter 3 - Shadows in the Dark

Jack's hands trembled as he stared at the man who had emerged from the shadows. His eyes narrowed, trying to read the stranger's intentions. The stranger, dressed in dark clothes, his face partially obscured by a hood, stepped closer with slow, deliberate movements."You're looking for answers, aren't you?" the stranger asked, his voice cold, almost indifferent.Jack didn't respond immediately. His instincts screamed that this man was dangerous, but he couldn't afford to show any weakness. He needed to know what this person knew about Hesta and his parents' death."Who are you?" Jack asked, his voice steady despite the pounding in his chest. The man tilted his head slightly, a smirk tugging at the corners of his lips. "I'm someone who has been watching you, Jack. Watching you try to dig up the truth." He stepped closer, his eyes glinting with something like amusement. "You think you can uncover Hesta's secrets, but you're already in way over your head."Jack took a step back, instinctively reaching for something—a weapon, anything. His fingers brushed over a small device on his father's desk, a strange, metallic object that he had never seen before. The moment his fingers made contact with it, a surge of energy shot through his body, and for a brief second, everything in the room seemed to float. He staggered back, blinking in disbelief. The man raised an eyebrow, clearly intrigued. "Interesting. Looks like you're more than you appear, Jack Walker."Jack's heart raced. What was that? His mind struggled to process what had just happened. Was that... his father's work? Could it be the beginning of what his parents had been researching?"Tell me what you know about Hesta," Jack demanded, his voice firmer now, his fear slowly turning into resolve. "And tell me what this is." He gestured to the device, still glowing faintly in his hand. The man seemed to consider Jack for a moment, then sighed. "You're not ready for the answers you seek. But I'll give you a warning—Hesta is much more than just an organization. It's a force. A force that controls more than you could ever imagine." He stepped forward, his voice dropping to a whisper. "And you, Jack, you've just unlocked a door you can never close."Before Jack could respond, the man turned and vanished into the darkness, leaving him standing there, holding the mysterious device.Jack's mind was spinning. His parents had been involved in something far bigger than he had ever imagined, and now, it seemed that he was being dragged into it, whether he liked it or not. He needed answers, and he needed them fast. But the more he learned, the more dangerous everything became.
