Chapter 6 - The Confrontation

The figure emerging from the shadows was tall, with a presence that seemed to distort the air around them. Jack's heart pounded in his chest as he tried to assess the person before him. They were wearing a black suit, the kind that was typical for Hesta operatives, and their face was obscured by a sleek, high-tech mask that seemed to shift and shimmer in the dim light. Jack couldn't tell if the mask was made of some advanced material or if it was simply a hologram, but the result was the same: he couldn't see the person's face. The air in the room felt charged, tense. Jack gripped the device in his pocket tightly, trying to steady his breathing. This was no longer just about finding answers. It was about survival."Who are you?" Jack demanded, trying to keep his voice steady. His hand hovered near his side, where he knew his gun was, though he didn't think he'd need it. Not against someone like this. The figure remained silent for a moment, as though weighing whether or not to respond. Then, with a voice that seemed unnaturally calm, they spoke."You've stumbled too far into things you don't understand, Jack," the figure said. The voice was distorted, altered by the mask. "Hesta doesn't let things like you get in the way. You're dangerous now."Jack's mind raced. He had to figure out what was going on, who this person was, and how to get out of here. But as the figure took a step closer, the air around them seemed to shimmer and ripple. The faintest hint of gravity distortion lingered, and Jack instinctively took a step back."You think you can fight us?" the figure sneered. "You don't even know the extent of what you're dealing with. Your parents didn't teach you enough. They were too focused on their own ambitions to see the bigger picture."Jack clenched his fists. The frustration, the anger—everything he had been feeling since the moment his parents died—was rising to the surface. He could feel it in his body, in the way the device in his pocket seemed to hum with energy. There was power inside of him now, something he hadn't fully tapped into yet, but it was there, waiting."I'm not afraid of you," Jack said, his voice low, almost a growl. "You and your organization—whatever you think you're doing—it ends now."The figure didn't flinch. Instead, they raised their hand, and suddenly, the room seemed to distort. Gravity shifted, and Jack's body felt as though it were being pulled in every direction at once. His feet lifted off the ground as the figure's power pressed down on him."You're weak, Jack," the figure taunted, their voice cold and detached. "Your parents could have been great, but they didn't have the strength to finish what they started. You're just another pawn in a much larger game."Jack's body twisted in the air, but he gritted his teeth. He wasn't going to let this happen. His eyes flashed with determination as he focused on the device in his pocket, drawing on the strange energy it contained. He didn't know how, but he could feel it—feel the pull of gravity shifting around him. With a burst of strength, Jack slammed his fist downward, forcing the gravity in the room to bend to his will. The distortion around him faltered, and for the briefest of moments, he could feel the pressure lift.In that instant, Jack threw himself forward, using the momentum to land a swift kick to the figure's midsection. The blow sent the figure stumbling back, their mask flickering as if malfunctioning for a moment.Jack didn't give them a chance to recover. He rushed forward, pulling the figure into a grapple. The figure struggled, but Jack had the advantage now. He could feel the raw power coursing through him, a force he had only begun to understand."Tell me what Hesta is!" Jack demanded, his voice filled with a desperate edge. The figure's mask began to crack as they struggled beneath his grip. For a moment, it seemed like they might break free, but then they suddenly stopped. Their body went rigid, and their voice took on a completely different tone—a voice that was cold, detached, and calculating."You're asking the wrong question," the figure said, their voice now sounding strangely familiar, but it wasn't the same person. It was as though the voice was being controlled. "Hesta isn't what you think it is. It's not a group. It's a system. It's the future."Before Jack could react, the figure's body went limp, their mask finally shattering to reveal their true face.It wasn't someone Jack recognized. Instead, it was an older man, with cold, calculating eyes. His face held the weariness of someone who had been through too many battles, both physical and mental."Your parents knew more than you think," the man said, his voice barely above a whisper. "They didn't just fight Hesta—they became a part of it. And so will you."
