Chapter 1 - The Beginning

"It's finally time."

David grabbed his motorcycle and rushed down the crowded streets of Ascalon.

He passed through the High-rise buildings of the city, swerving through traffic without a care in the world, nearly hitting a red light.

His reckless driving was noticed by one of the police officers who rolled their eyes and sighed.

In a flash, the officer ran towards David. "Initiate Boost!"

The officer's legs glowed blue as he ran at inhuman speeds, stopping in front of David and raising his hand.

"Shit shit shit-" David managed to brake in time and sighed.

"Sir, you're going to have to be more careful next time. The rules are here for a reason. I'm letting you off with a warning."

David rolled his eyes; he wished that this guy could just stop talking. "Yeah sure fine I get it, can you move now? I'm going to be late for school."

"Fine you're free to-" And before he could finish his sentence, David drove past him, leaving the officer literally in smoke.

"Dumbass…" David shook his head. It was a special day today. The day he was finally going to awaken his System!

He had dreamed about it his whole life, and everyone does. At the 12th hour of the day you turned 18, your System would be unlocked, granting you the power to level up and gain awesome powers.

Depending on what you got, you could be set for life, becoming an elite amongst elites or a low-level player in this world.

David continued his journey until he finally made it to his university: Nephesh. The grand jewel of the great city of Ascalon.

The campus was the size of a town, with several unique buildings, each pertaining to its own departments, such as sciences, combat, or the arts.

Each one has their own design, such as the faculty of engineering being a wide building that resembled a factor, while the combat department was an open field with several barracks.

Ever since Systems came into the world, schools have been developed extensively. Their budget increased as the need to develop the Systems of others were needed.

The government especially made sure that they scouted out any and all potential high tiers, B Tiers, and above, basically.

David even saw them in their suits, walking around, waiting for it to be 12 PM. He parked his motorcycle in one of the lots before he made his way over to the main building.

It was more like a mansion than anything else, grand and white with pillars, stained glass windows, and statues of great people all around it.

While walking, he was nearly hit by a fireball, causing him to stumble onto the ground.

"Whoops~ hand slipped." The guy that threw the fireball chuckled to himself as he walked towards David alongside several other men who laughed.

He was Jacob Levy, he was a B Rank War Mage and David's senior as well as bully along with all the other nameless goons behind him.

Of course, since he was good-looking with black hair and piercing blue eyes.

Well, he was a bully to nearly everyone who was below him, and that especially included those who did not unlock their Systems from lesser families.

"Yeah, yeah, I heard it before." David stood up and tried to walk away before Jacob could initiate anything.

"Saw your mother here earlier. She was looking mighty fine in that suit, maybe my hand will slip in-"

David had no other option; he struck first, trying to deck Jacob in the jaw.

But that was a terrible idea; the only thing that happened was the bones in David's hand cracking.

Unimaginable pain coursed through his body. It was so stupid, of course it wouldn't work. Jacob's Durability was at least E+, it was the equivalent of punching a building down.

"Heh? My turn~." Jacob made a finger gun pointed at David's chest.

"Bang."

Suddenly, a blast of red light erupted from the tip of his finger, sending David flying into the air, crash landing near to a couple of students, his whole body now covered in as much dirt as he was in pain.

Instead of helping him out, all of the students simply ran or looked away as soon as they saw Jacob floating toward David.

Of course, they would run away, even if the teachers weren't going to step in. Jacob was royalty essentially.

His family were all full of at least B Class and above members, the government essentially makes sure they're well taken care of, that would include turning a blind eye.

"Cease!" A woman's voice called out as a beautiful blonde-haired lady with blue eyes in a white nun-like outfit walked in between Jacob and David.

"Awww, hello there, Mary. How are you doing~." Jacob fixed his hair and grinned.

This was Mary. David had known her since they were friends back in elementary school. They were close, but she became more distant once she started her training when she found out her System was B-ranked.

"I'll be better once you stop assaulting David, Jacob. It's gone too far."

"Heh? He attacked first. I'm just defending myself. Nothing wrong with that." He gave a faux grin and shrugged.

"Tch, then I'm letting the both of you off with a warning… this is the second time this month; one more time, and you'll both be punished."

She turned around and knelt to David's side, quietly whispering.

"Why did you fall for it again? Stop being so stupid."

Mary raised her hand. "Heal."

Suddenly, David's body was wrapped up in a beautiful white light that mended and healed all of his injuries, even down to his bones.

That was the power of a B Rank Priestess. She was bound for greatness in this world. She was also just so damn hot in that nun outfit; why did it have to show so much skin? Who was making these damn things?

"…He talked about-"

"Yes, yes, your mother, I know, but just stop letting him get to you; it's your day, after all. Come on."

Jacob got closer. "Oh yeah, it's your little birthday… and your System unlock, hah, I wonder what you'd get, let me see hmmm ah."

He gave an insincere grin. "You could be a Rank E Guard? Or maybe a Teacher; those are always of… some use. Maybe you can amount to being a Farmer, always need those."

David sneered, standing up again before Mary gripped his hand. "Do not…"

"Oh? Come on, let him have it; it's his last shot before he becomes yet another figure in the masses. Let him dream. Come on now."

Mary stood up quickly. "Boost."

And without any warning, her whole body glowed blue as she ran as fast as possible away from Jacob with David holding her hands, leaving a small dust trail behind.

Once they were both out of sight, Mary sighed. "Please, control yourself more… I won't be there to save you all the time. I have to study."

David rolled his eyes. He had heard it all before; yes, he got it; she was training and blah blah blah.

He was sick of it, but maybe today will change. If he will get a Class close to her, they could have been together more. That thought made him smile.

"Yeah… I know… thanks…" David looked away, gripping his fists.

"Anyway… it's your special day… Happy birthday again, I hope you get a wonderful System. Don't pay Jacob any mind; you'll do well, I promise."

Mary smiled, and his heart softened for a little bit. Yeah, screw Jacob. This was his day; nothing else mattered right now.

She then hugged him, and David patted her back. "Yeah, I hope so too…"
