The air burned my lungs as I jogged through the forest north of the main castle. While the school year started two weeks ago I am still figuring out my routine. So far I was able to help Olivia map out about half the school grounds. With over a thousand acres of land it would take several lifetimes to map it to the level that she likes. I tend to focus more on the pretty side. I guess that is why we are such good friends. She keeps me grounded while I help her live a sort of normal life. A shiver ran down my spine as I remembered how she was when dad first brought her home. Bam I smacked right into something, knocking myself to the ground. A calloused hand appeared in front of me
A deep country voice asked " Are you okay?"
I grabbed Ryan's hand and said " yeah thanks. I wasn't paying attention to where I was going."
" your fine It was my fault as well." he said
I looked him up and down. For someone from the country he sure as hell looked nice. He was what you pictured: Tall and tan. His brown hair was cut on the shorter side but it was long enough to get in the way of his green eyes. He tilted his and smirked.
" What?" I asked
" if you are going to eye fuck me at least buy me some lunch"
" Eye fuck" I gasped " I would never"
" Sure," He said as he started to jog again. " How about dinner this weekend to make up for it."
He ran off before I could answer him. I started my run again, fuming. The nerve of that man. He may be hot but he was cocky.
I was still mad when I walked into basic spell casting. Mr . Henderson walked and said " Today we are going to be seeing what element you are proficient in. At the end of the month you will be given your grimaur."
The first person called up was Ryan. He stood in front of the class holding the book that the professor gave to him. A symbol formed around him then two symbols floated up from the book. They were the symbol of Earth and Light. Olivia tapped me on the shoulder and asked " So what is the deal with you two?"
" What do you mean?" I asked
" the two of you have been checking each other out the whole time."
I ignored her as I made my way up to the front. When the professor handed me the book. He said " Just close your eyes and let your body just feel. Don't force anything and just let things happen."
The book smelt of old pages. It hummed in my hand full of energy. Images formed in my eyes. Some of them were good. I saw things from my past. Me and dad playing in a lake , The first time I saw Olivia smile. They are what motivated me to do what I do. The room changed around me. I was standing in the middle of a battlefield. Olivia laid on the ground. Half in a dragon form and half in human form. Carefully pulling her to my lap I asked " What happened"
Her eyes started right past me as a voice that wasn't hers said " you need to be strong to stop this. Things are in motion, stay strong and keep her close."
Cool air surrounded me as my eyes snapped back to the classroom. I searched for Olivia immediately. She was staffing off to the side with her eyes wide open. As soon as our eyes met she broke out in a huge grin. That is when I noticed the symbols floating in front of me. They were: water, Earth, Fire and Light. I shuttered thinking of what I saw. I had to force myself to move after that. Noah, Atlas and Trey went next.
I had varying impressions of them. I wanted to tell Olivia to stay away from them but I know her and she needed to make her own call. Out of the three of them Noah was the most dangerous. He was very much like Olivia. The quiet ones were always the ones to watch out for. I saw Olivia take down a man that was three times her side with ease. Noah was the one that had the best chance to stab her in the back. Trey and Atlas got two elements while Noah ended up with three. Finally it was Olivia's turn; she ended up with six elements. Everyone was in shock, the professor shouted with joy. He said " This is the first time I have seen something like this. I have read about it in history but never got to see it."
" How in the world can something like this happen?" Noah shouted looking like he was going to bust a blood vessel.
" Some students have a stronger bond with the elements while some have a stronger bond with their shifts."
Olivia walked over to stand next to me and said " Honestly I don't know why you would be so mad. Most of the other students got only one or two elements while you got three. You should be happy that you got that many."
Noah started to take a step towards us when the teacher cut in and said" If you want to fight over it I suggest that you request a formal match. There will be a severe punishment if you are caught fighting outside of these matches."
" How do we go about requesting one of these matches?" I asked.
" Luckily for you I can get one set up for you." Mr Henderson. " I can officiate a match this afternoon if you would like."
" That would be great." Olivia said " The sooner we can get this over the better."
Atlas and Trey both jumped in saying that they want a match too. I sighed knowing where all of this was going.
" I will also fight." I said " It can be a three on two match."
Olivia pouted and said " You know I can handle three of them on my own."
" I don't want you to hurt their egos so badly." I replied
" I have been so busy." She whined, " I just wanted to have some fun."
" It's your fight that you are so busy. You need to learn how to delegate. One of these days it is going to come and bite you in the ass."
" Enough." Mr. Henderson said " Save that energy for the match. Now let's get on with our lessons."
We all gathered around him as he started to speak." Elements are the basics of spell casting. You each have your own element that you can control. How you use these elements is up to you. By overlapping certain elements allows you to create new spells."
He drew the symbols for Water and Shadow and after overlapping them a shard of Ice formed. He then drew the symbol for Earth and by adding it to the Ice a spear appeared. As he twirled it around he said " each person has their own potential it all depends on how you use it. Your homework is to form the basic form of your element by the end of the week."
As we were leaving the classroom he called us over and said " If you still want to do the official duel I can referee one this afternoon."
" Lets do it." Trey said
" How is it going to be fair with it being three v two." Atlas asked
" I can beat all three of you by myself." Olivia said " So don't hurt your brain too hard."
