Chereads / A CHAPTER A DAY / Chapter 2 - PAPÈ

Chapter 2 - PAPÈ

On one Sunny Sunday morning, Papè the pig was feeling very hungry. He did not have breakfast with the rest of the pigs because he over slept. He had a running stomach the other night.

He was very tired when the sun peeked through the morning clouds, so he decided to sleep just a bit; a tiny bit longer. He knew if he missed breakfast at the ordained time on Sundays, he won't have another chance for breakfast since his owner would be off for service soon after distributing breakfast for that day. And very early at that.

He would have to wait for lunch, and that's what he's doing now. His patience has been stretched for a while now and almost reaching it's limit.

So he decided to observe his surrounding.

" Oh! How happy the other Piggys are"

He sighed in loneliness.

" I wish I could jump and play around too, but am hungry and very tired."

He thought within himself.

" I was only going to sleep for a bit longer since I was so very tired.

I shouldn't have slept longer, now look at me, am starving. I didn't even eat last night, I kept vomiting and stooling. My stomach is so... empty."

He kept lamenting for few more minutes.

After analysing how terrible his life has become over night. He decided to take action against this uninvited enemy named Hunger.

" Mr Hunger is very brutal, and lacks Piggy sympathy. I am stronger and wiser than him, so I'm going to deal with him the usual way. Foodie his nemesis would help me defeat him."

He thought with strong resolute.

So Mister Papa stood on his feet after mustering all the strength he had, but oh! he fell down right after.

" Oh! If only I haven't been so hungry, I would have been able to walk on my feet in search for food."

Mr Papè spent the next twenty minutes, blaming different people and things as the reason for his weakness and hunger.

At this point in time he was so hungry that he could no longer speak. So he thought within himself.

" And nobody seem to care. If only my owner was here, I would have been in a much better state."

Mr Papè is very sad now, no one has come to ask how he is doing, or even say hello to him.

" How mean could they get."

He lamented after a while.

Then suddenly, Mr Papè stood up with such vigor that even himself was surprised. He took one step after the other quickly but steadily.

 " Wow! I'm walking, I'm moving again,

This is a miracle. A very big miracle!."

Papè exclaimed in ecstasy

He would not have thought he would be able to walk again until his owner was back, what a miracle.

" Now I'm going to look for what to eat."

Papè thought firmly after a while. He walked around the farm but no food to eat. Nothing was appetizing especially the grass. It looked extremely disgusting.

" There is nothing to eat in this whole farm. I have checked everywhere but nothing to eat."

Papè said sadly.

"Hummm the road, if I leave the farm and follow the road I might find something to eat."

Papè thought with all seriousness after looking out the short fence of the farm.

Papè walked to the fence and jumped over with vigor. Where he got the strength no one knows. He walked gingerly in the middle of the tarred road. He walked and walked for five minutes, the road was almost desolate.

He saw a bird that perched on a sign post that reads ''' Fresh vegetables for your delight! Now on sale!!"' two minutes after.

Papè wondered what the signs on the post meant. He had seen something similar on his owner's truck.

He walked closer to the sign post and saw a small gate right next to it opened.

He walked through the open gate, into the place. Inside he saw a building bigger than the farm's barn. He walked towards it with great expectations. But when he got to the front, the door was closed. He tried to open it but to no avail. So he walked away towards the gate and out of the place with great disappointment.

At this point he is now very tired and his strength is failing, But he pushed on one step at a time. He walked and walked but now his pace significantly slower than before.

" Oh! I'm so thirsty. What do I do now?. No water in sight. How I wish I never left the farm."

He complained in one breath.

Then a voice at the back of his head whispered.

" Papè! You can't give up now you have come so far. Keep pushing you are almost there."

Papè who was at the verge of giving up was revitalized after hearing that saving voice.

And he moved again one step at a time. He walked fifteen more steps and with instinct he looked right, Then he ran to the right side of the road. Then his eyes met an open broken section of a fence, and immediately he ran inside.

His eyes met first a pepper plant. When he saw the bells of pepper on the plant, it was like a drowning Piggy with no hope of survival suddenly given a life vest. The ecstasy in his eyes could not be contained.

He rushed at it like a hungry pack of wolves would, without care of what kind of thing it was, not analysing if it was edible or not, or if they were better options.

He gulped and ate all the pepper on the tree. Then his brain processed that he should stop eating.

Then suddenly...

" FIRE!!! FIRE!!! FIRE!!! THERE IS FIRE ON MY TONGUE!. HELP! HELP!

SOMEBODY HELP SAVE MY SOUL!!

MY STOMACH AND TONGUE, I AM BURNING!. SAVE MY SOUL SOMEBODY!. SAVE MY SOUL!!!."

Papè screamed all the air out from his lungs and was panting there after.

He looked at the pepper plant with great hostility in his eyes, he glared and said.

" How wicked could thou soul be,

With no Piggy compassion one bit.

Your evil has gone beyond boundaries, thou deserve not to be forgiven.

I Papè will never eat of you ever again."

Papè trying to blow his tongue looked so disgraceful. He turned to take his leave. After taking a step, he turned his head back to the pepper plant and said.

" May thine soul never be forgiven for being too spicy."

He snorted and took his leave.

After he walked for a while he imaginary scratched his head and asked.

" How do I get home?."
