"Uh… ughhh…"
The Blue-Faced Ghost let out a chilling, eerie low growl, its hunched body charging at Ye Yun like a hyena that had found its prey in the wild.
Its long, blade-like forelimbs were raised high, ready to strike down at Ye Yun's head, seemingly attempting to decapitate him with a single blow.
"Bang!"
The Blue-Faced Ghost's strike missed, its immense strength causing the blade-like limb to hit the hard ground instead. The impact shattered large sections of the stone tiles, kicking up a cloud of dust.
In the nick of time, Ye Yun performed a quick roll, narrowly avoiding the vicious strike. He quickly regained his composure and fled, panic still coursing through him.
"System, what the hell is that monster?" Ye Yun asked as he sprinted, his mind racing.
System: "Answering Host: That creature just now was a Blue-Faced Ghost, a servant-level Karlos (Don't be a wimp, just fight! It's embarrassing for me when you act so scared!)."
Ye Yun: "What the hell? I can't even cast a fireball, how am I supposed to fight it? And how did it notice me?!"
System: "Host, have you forgotten where you just came from? The Blue-Faced Ghost has an extremely keen sense of smell. It must have tracked you because of the scent of blood on you."
"Damn it," Ye Yun muttered to himself, "I should have asked Fatty Wang to get me that high-grade work uniform sooner. Just to save a couple of crappy coins, now I'm being hunted by a Karlos."
Sweat was pouring down Ye Yun's forehead as he raced forward, his mind whirring with desperate calculations. Running away wasn't a long-term solution; his stamina wasn't infinite, and eventually, it would run out. Plus, as long as he wore the clothes that had absorbed the scent, the Blue-Faced Ghost would be able to track him down, no matter how far he ran.
"Whoosh!"
Suddenly, a rush of wind tore through the air behind him, like the sound of a knife slicing through the air at high speed.
One move wins it all!
Without hesitation, Ye Yun performed another quick roll to his left, his body instinctively getting more familiar with the motion. Damn, this is really not something to be proud of, though.
The sharp forelimb slashed through the air, cutting off a small tuft of hair from Ye Yun's head. The residual force of the strike grazed his scalp, barely missing his skull.
"Holy shit, that was close!" Ye Yun thought, looking at the strand of hair that had fallen to the ground. If he had been even a moment slower in dodging, he would've been decapitated.
"System! I want to exchange for skills!" Ye Yun was furious now. Not only was this ugly monster trying to kill him, but now it was even messing with his hairstyle! That was too much—I can tolerate a lot, but this is unacceptable!
Hadn't he heard that old saying? The head can be lost, but the hair must not be disheveled; blood can be shed, but shoes must always be polished. Okay, maybe that last part wasn't quite accurate for him, considering he hadn't bought any shoes yet.
System: "Currently available skills for exchange: Level 1 Fire Magic—Flame Bullet and Fire Rocket. Unlocking Flame Bullet will cost 100 Evolution Points, while Fire Rocket will cost 150 Evolution Points. To unlock both, it will cost 250 Evolution Points. Host, please choose your exchange."
"All of them! Quickly!" Ye Yun shouted, his stamina rapidly depleting. If his stamina ran out, he would be dead meat on the cutting board, and the Blue-Faced Ghost would do whatever it pleased with him.
On his attribute panel, Ye Yun watched as the Evolution Points he had worked so hard to earn—654 points—dropped rapidly to 404. His heart ached, but at this critical moment, he knew there was no time to hesitate.
"What's this?"
It felt like an epiphany. Suddenly, Ye Yun understood how to unleash the Flame Bullet and Fire Rocket. It was as though the memories of these skills were awakened within his body.
For an Awakener to cast magic, they first needed to learn a series of related knowledge and understand the incantations and formations of the spell. But the brilliance of the Peak Evolution System lay in the fact that the host could learn magic directly from the bloodline inheritance by spending Evolution Points to increase their bloodline compatibility, skipping the lengthy learning process—efficient and terrifying.
Ye Yun stopped and turned around to face the Blue-Faced Ghost. "You've been chasing me for so long; it's time to show you some real magic, you ugly freak!"
There was a poem he especially liked during his fighting days: "A person dies, a bird flies to the sky. If I don't die, I'll live for thousands of years. Don't be a coward, just fight!"
