Chapter 7 - 7.Baron Bert’s Treasure Theft Case

The Stolen Treasure

One peaceful morning, Merslin and Elena received an urgent summons from the Mage Guild and hurried to the guild headquarters. This mission involved the theft of Baron Bert's treasure—an artifact that held significant symbolic value for the town of Luminaria and its people.

"Merslin, Elena, and Serena. This mission rests in your hands," the guild master spoke in a solemn tone. "You must retrieve the Baron's treasure at all costs."

Serena's eyes gleamed as she quickly assessed the situation. "The thief seems to have fled into the nearby forest," she said firmly. Without hesitation, Merslin and Elena followed her into the woods.

As they navigated through the forest, Merslin found it difficult to track their path, but with the guidance of Elena and Serena, he gradually adapted.

"We need to be careful from here," Serena warned. "There might be traps set up by the thief." Merslin followed Elena's lead and stepped cautiously.

Deep within the forest, the trio discovered the thief's hideout. Various traps were laid out in front of it, making their approach difficult. With Elena and Serena's help, Merslin skillfully avoided the traps and moved forward.

The first room of the hideout was rigged with an explosive trap. Serena immediately noticed the smell of gunpowder and issued a warning. "Be careful, there's an explosive trap here." Thanks to her keen senses, Merslin was able to avoid triggering it.

As they entered the next chamber, a poisonous gas started to spread. Elena accidentally triggered the gas trap by stepping on the wrong tile.

"Hold your breath!" Serena shouted. Merslin quickly pulled Elena away from the trap and used his magic to purify the air.

"Elena, are you okay?" Merslin asked, helping her up.

Elena, still shaken, nodded. "Thanks, Merslin. If it weren't for you, I would have been in serious trouble."

"Be more careful next time," Merslin said with a gentle smile.

Elena, her face slightly flushed, nodded. "Yeah, I will. Thanks again, Merslin." She held onto his hand a little longer, her eyes reflecting gratitude and something more—perhaps admiration.

The Chase for the Treasure

Deeper inside the hideout, they finally found the thief attempting to escape with the treasure.

The thief threw small bombs toward them in desperation. "Watch out!" Serena shouted, but the explosion had already filled the room with thick smoke. Merslin quickly summoned his magic shield to block the blast's impact.

"Elena! Serena! Are you okay?" Merslin asked.

"We're fine!" Elena responded. "We need to stop that thief!"

The thief took advantage of the distraction and tried to flee deeper into the hideout. But Serena, moving with incredible speed, blocked his path.

"This ends here." She drew her dagger and lunged at the thief. The thief skillfully dodged her attack and countered with a swift strike, but Serena's agility gave her the edge.

The thief then pulled out poisoned arrows and fired them rapidly. Merslin swiftly conjured a magic shield to block the incoming projectiles.

"Elena, be careful not to get hit!" he warned. Elena moved cautiously, dodging the arrows with precision.

The thief then tossed another bomb, filling the area with dense smoke. Even within the obscured vision, Serena's sharp senses detected the thief's movements, allowing her to strike precisely. However, the thief used the smoke to reposition himself and set up another trap.

"Watch out! He's setting traps!" Serena warned. Merslin and Elena stepped carefully.

In a last-ditch effort, the thief threw his strongest poison. Merslin quickly devised a plan—using his magic shield to reflect the poison back at the thief. The strategy worked; the thief was hit by his own poison, causing him to stagger.

Seizing the opportunity, Serena dashed behind the thief and struck his wrist with her dagger, forcing him to drop the treasure.

"This is the end," Merslin said firmly. The thief attempted one final attack but was swiftly subdued by Elena's magic.

"Seorihwasal (Frost Arrow)!" Elena chanted, sending shards of ice hurling towards him. The magic froze the thief's legs, immobilizing him completely.

The thief finally collapsed to his knees, surrendering.

Elena let out a relieved sigh and smiled. "Good job, Merslin. We couldn't have done it without you."

"Yeah, I felt once again that we make a great team," Merslin responded with a grin.

Elena stepped closer and hugged him tightly. The soft fabric of her robe pressed against him, making his face instantly heat up. Sensing his flustered reaction, Elena chuckled softly. Serena, observing the interaction, felt a twinge of jealousy.

"Merslin, Elena, we don't have time for this. We need to return the treasure," Serena said, her voice carrying a hint of playful jealousy. She moved closer to Merslin, gently leaning against his arm. "But… you really did a great job today, Merslin."

After the Mission

With the treasure safely returned, the three of them headed back to town. Baron Bert expressed his deep gratitude for their bravery. "I sincerely thank you all," the Baron said.

Back at the mage's tower, Serena took the time to teach Merslin more about tracking and avoiding traps.

After resting in his room for a while, Merslin made his way to the training hall, where he found Elena practicing magic while Serena honed her dagger techniques.

"Merslin, you did really well today," Elena said with a warm smile.

Merslin nodded. "Thanks, Elena. I couldn't have done it without you both."

Elena paused her training and approached him. With a friendly smile, she said, "Merslin, your courage today was truly remarkable. If it weren't for you, we would have been in danger."

Merslin, slightly embarrassed, scratched the back of his head. "Thanks, Elena. I'm really glad to have you two by my side."

Elena took another step closer and gently held his hand. "You were a huge help today, Merslin. And your magic has improved a lot."

Merslin smiled. "Really? It's all thanks to your help. I appreciate it, Elena."

Serena, watching their interaction, felt a little jealous and quickly approached, grabbing Merslin's arm. "Merslin, I'm also grateful. Without you, we would've been in serious trouble." She subtly leaned against him, showcasing her charm.

Merslin, caught between the two, felt overwhelmed by their affectionate gestures. "Thanks, Serena. You both were amazing as well."

Elena, sensing Serena's competitive streak, smiled at Merslin. "Let's keep getting stronger together, Merslin."

Serena, understanding the friendly rivalry, grinned. "That's right, Merslin. We'll all grow stronger together."

As the night deepened, Merslin made a silent vow—to grow stronger, to face greater challenges, and to always stand by his newfound companions.

Their journey had only just begun.
