Chapter 4 - Chapter Four

Liam;

I clenched my jaw tightly as I glared at them. They couldn't just understand that I couldn't take just anybody as my mate.

"You will be dethroned! I'm telling you!" He said in a serious tone and I resisted the urge to not break his all-so-perfect nose.

They were now threatening me with dethronement, how interesting.

"How you keep rejecting everyone brought to you is my concern. Is it that you don't find any of them attractive?"

"Those were the most beautiful and high-ranked she-wolves in our pack."

"Perhaps he prefers low-ranked wolves."

"We've brought them too and not just from this pack, from beyond too!"

I listened to them talking about me like I wasn't there. I was done arguing with them, the one thing I wasn't going to let them do was take away what was rightfully mine, being the Lycan king.

They wouldn't even understand me and I don't want to begin to explain anything to them. They might not even believe me and think that it's just one of my excuses to not get a mate.

"An unmated Lycan king, it's unheard of! We will not condone this anymore."

"You will be careful with the way you speak to me! I am still your King!" I barked, my eyes blazing with fury.

I clenched my fist to my side as I ground my teeth together tightly. They had given me twenty-four hours to either find a mate or lose my throne. I'd be damned if I let that happen.

I had kept quiet after arguing with them for too long, but I couldn't just sit and listen to them undermine me.

"And I told you all that I just haven't met my mate, just yet!"

"What exactly is the problem" he questioned and I glared at him, my jaw ticked as I clenched and unclenched my fist.

I resisted the urge to tell him that I wanted to know too, why she chose to bestow this cruel fate upon me.

"You can take one of the women and crown her as your Luna! It's that simple."

I scoffed. If only it was that simple.

"Anyways, this is the last time—-just twenty-four hours. Twenty-four hours only and if you don't provide a Luna, we'll have no choice but to dethrone you," he said in his deep baritone voice.

I didn't like how they were speaking to me and I knew there was nothing I could do. I inhaled deeply as I stood up, feeling their eyes on me.

I stormed out of the room, ignoring their startled gasps and the way they called me back. I knew they would be surprised, but I was angry and I needed a release, I needed to clear my head from all the anger I held within. If I had stayed back inside, I would have combusted and goddess knows what would have happened.

For whatever reason, she didn't deem it fit to give me my mate. Perhaps if I met someone ordained by her, I wouldn't have to deal with that, every time.

The secret was eating me up and I didn't know what to do. Most of the women were very beautiful and appealing, they had indeed brought the best women, but I just couldn't do it. The same thing kept happening each time.

I had met several healers and seers discreetly to ascertain the cause of the problem, but nothing changed, if anything it became worse as if it knew I was trying to chase it away.

But this time, I wouldn't let it stop me. I made a resolve as I marched to the woods. The woods were my sanctuary, it was where I felt safe and free with my thoughts and where I always went when I had to think.

As I entered the woods, I suddenly felt calm and my wandering mind became peaceful. The earthy smell of pine and damp leaves filled the air and I inhaled greedily. As I walked further, I strained my wolf's ear to listen for any strange sound, instead, I only heard the sound of the fallen leaves crunching beneath my boots, the chirping of birds, and the gentle whispers of the wind.

I smiled as I finally found the spot. I had noticed it during one of the days I needed to clear my head after a meeting with them over my continuous rejection of the women.

It was a secluded spot and I Closed my eyes, as I listened to the sound of nature. A feeling of peacefulness washed over me and my worries

were replaced by a deep sense of tranquility.

They would never dethrone me, I wouldn't let them. I had no idea why that kept happening to me, but I knew I was going to be fine.

"We'll be fine," I convinced my wolf.

The kingship belongs to me and nothing would take that away. I sighed deeply as I began to think of a way to keep my throne. I knew they would make good on their threat and I couldn't let that happen.

Suddenly, I snapped my eyes open as an unfamiliar scent began to waft through the air. I strained my ears and sure enough, I heard strange sounds coming from deep in the woods.

I furrowed my brows as I stood up. The scent was—special, it was unlike anything I had ever smelled before and I inhaled greedily as I walked quickly into the forest.

The leaves crunched beneath my foot and I muttered a string of curses, whoever was there was in trouble and I had a feeling it was a woman, she-wolf. The smell was a telltale sign. I didn't want her captors to hear me coming, but as I got closer, her screams became louder and I quickened my pace.

The scene before me left me horrified and before I could do anything, they ran away, perhaps, knowing who I was and realizing that they were no match for me.
