Adrianna;
My only regret about dying was that I never got to experience love.
I knew they were going to kill me and hoped that my death would be quick and painless.
I didn't know what made me scream as they dragged me to the woods, but I realized quickly that I didn't want to die. I didn't know if anyone would hear me as it was quiet, except for the chirping of the bird, but I hoped that at least someone would hear me and come to my aid.
"Shut up, you bitch!" The leader hissed and from his tone, I knew he was furious.
I shrieked as he raised his hand and then I was surprised when I heard the sounds of retreating footsteps.
I raised my head slowly as I felt someone walk closer to me. My eyes landed on his, the most beautiful eyes I've ever seen.
"Are you okay?" he asked in his deep, smooth, velvety voice as he stretched his hand to me
I suddenly forgot how to breathe as I kept staring at him. It was only when I felt saliva dribble to my chin that I realized that my mouth was wide agape.
I quickly regained my composure and clamped my mouth shut as I held his hand.
He pulled me up and handed me a handkerchief, which I took quickly and used to wipe my dress.
"Thank you," I said slowly as I took in his features.
He turned to leave and I furrowed my brows. He was going to leave like that?
"You're leaving?" I asked, my voice giving away my confused state.
"Yes." He said matter of factedly, without turning back.
"Your handkerchief—-," I said in an attempt to stop him, but he kept moving as he muttered a 'keep it."
There was nothing left for me. Adrian hated me and those assassins might come back for me.
I didn't know what to do, so I did the only thing on my mind, I rushed to him and hugged him tightly from behind.
He stilled and I reasoned that he might be shocked.
"Please take me with you, please," I said as the tears I had been holding began to drop from my eyes.
He turned around, pushing me away from him, but he didn't push me hard enough for me to fall, just enough that my hands left his body.
"What the hell are you on about—"
"Please, I have nowhere to go—-my father—he sold me out to this man who wants to kill me, "I said in between tears.
I didn't care if I used a sob story, but I had a feeling that he was someone of importance, and if I stayed with him, I was going to be protected.
"Do—do you know who I am?"
Was he trying to tell me that he had a mate? I
I shook my head and he sighed.
"The Lycan king."
I fell to my knees immediately. I had heard so much about him, that I had no idea that this was him. The assassins probably recognized him and that was why they ran away.
He glanced at and from the corner of my eyes, I noticed an unreadable expression on his face land I wondered if he was considering me.
"I'll take you in on one condition," he said and my eyes shot up quickly.
"You will become my Luna—," he was saying when he noticed my expression.
I was scared. Was he going to be like Adrin who had made me a substitute? Because he was the Lycan king, he could have any woman he wanted, why me? Me that he just met.
"I know you're scared, but don't worry, I'll draft the terms of the contract so you'll be rest assured. It's for both mine and your benefit."
For some reason, I believed him. I believed he wasn't lying and he took my hands as we walked back to the pack.
I glanced at myself in the mirror and smiled. My dress was beautiful, it Was a laced slim, floor-length A-line dress skirt that overlapped the blue-colored tulle with a layer of pale, burnished gold. The boatneck had a few beadwork that was adorable and the back of the dress was cut into a deep V that stopped just at the small of my back.
My hair was swept up in a mix of messy braids pinned together in a low bun.
My cheeks were flushed and my eyelids were dusted with a pale, pinkish-gold shade. My lashes were accentuated with a dark mascara, my lips dabbed with a light pink lipstick.
My beauty was even more accentuated. It was hard to believe that a day ago, I was almost murdered because of my ex-mate. I sighed heavily as I silently thanked the goddess.
When I remembered why I was dressed like this, a pang of guilt hit me and I swallowed the painful lump in my throat.
The Lycan king, Liam had given me a contract to sign as soon as we got to the pack house, I was to be his Luna, in exchange for his protection and revenge. I had told him everything that happened and he promised to punish both Adrian and the assassins.
He needed a Luna within twenty-four hours or stand the risk of losing his throne. It was a win-win situation for me.
He didn't seem to be interested In me, but I didn't care, all that matters was that I was safe now.
"And now, I present to you all the Lycan king's mate and Luna—-"
The voice broke my chain of thoughts and I swallowed hard. I have to do this!
I tried to look happy as I walked out to face the crowd.
The sound of everyone cheering and applauding seemed so far away as my eyes were fixated on just one person—him.
His mouth parted and his eyes bulged as they met mine.
I realized I had been standing at the same spot and Swallowed hard as I walked towards Liam, all the while, my eyes never leaving his—my ex-mate, Adrin.
