Chapter 11 - A Real Meal

Joseph had never felt so rich in his life.

Ten silver coins! That was one hundred copper! Compared to the five measly copper he earned from the rat quest, this felt like an actual fortune.

And there was only one logical thing to do with this reward.

Joseph and his newly victorious party marched into the Adventurer's Guild tavern like they actually belonged there.

And for the first time, they had some money to spend.

Joseph slapped three silver onto the counter. "Give us something edible."

The innkeeper, who had previously served him a bowl of gruel with zero enthusiasm, actually nodded in approval.

"Now we're talkin'." He scooped up the coins and barked at the kitchen. "Three full meals, comin' up!"

When the food arrived, Joseph nearly cried.

Thick slices of roasted meat, seared to perfection.

Golden-brown bread, still warm.

Stew that actually had flavor, not just sadness.

Joseph stared at the glorious spread in front of him.

"So this is what money can do," he whispered.

Kara dug in immediately, tearing into her meal like she had been starving for years.

Lily, in contrast, ate politely, her eyes practically sparkling with happiness.

"Boss! This is the best food I've ever had!" she said between bites.

Joseph, mouth full of actual seasoned meat, just nodded aggressively.

 For once, he wasn't struggling.

For once, he felt like a real adventurer.

As they ate, Kara leaned back in her chair, grinning. "Alright, I'll admit it. That plan of yours worked out."

Joseph smirked. "Told you. Not every problem can be solved by running in and punching things."

Kara waved him off. "Yeah, yeah. But now I have a serious question."

 Joseph raised an eyebrow. "What?"

Kara pointed at his plate. "You gonna finish that?"

 Joseph clutched his food protectively.

 "…Yes."

 Lily giggled.

For the first time since arriving in this world, Joseph felt something new.

Not just survival. Not just dumb luck.

 He felt like he belonged.
