Chapter 1 - Bright, Bright Flash Of Light...

"Haaah..."

Wheezing his way through the abandoned alleys of Chiba, Simon Brown, ex-ESA chief scientist, 65 years old, walked slowly across the streets, busy appreciating the colourful, yet silent scenery. As he shambled along, dragging his ageing body and a very rickety metal cane, he came upon a barren bus stop, where he deigned it suitable enough to rest his decrepit body upon.

As he lay baking upon the music of old, listening to the Beatles, along came some chatterings. At first, he ignored it, seeing that they were not disturbing him. Yet as they approached closer, one of them, a young girl, around 16 years of age, sporting pink and blonde hair, bedazzled with multiple piercings, pouted at the young man beside her. "Mou, Natsuki-kun, could you please help me defeat the evil witch Hina? She's chanting spells of utmost destruction upon me!"

Sighing in exasperation, Natsuki rolls his eyes, before turning towards the pink-haired girl. "Megumi, you know why she does it. Out of all of us, you have the worst grades! What did you get for the last English test, hmm? 10 out of 100! And that was your best score to date!"

Pushing her glasses up, the second girl chimed in, "That's right. You know very well how bad you suck at studying. If you don't do anything, I'll be the one to got to Tokyo University with Natsuki, and you'll be all alone..."

At this point, Megumi starts pummelling the bob-cut-haired girl. "Mou! Natsuki, Hina's being mean to me again..."

Watching their silly interactions, Simon chuckled to himself, envious of today's young. Ah, youth. What a wonderful time to be in...

As he sat reminiscing, it started to rain lightly. Seeing that the sudden downpour was increasing, the trio, carrying their bags, ran to the nearest shelter, which happened to be the bus stop where Simon was staying. As they wrung their water-logged shirts as much as possible, they finally noticed their neighbour. Nervous, they huddled to the other end, fearing that Simon might do something to them. Noticing it, he waved his hands demurely.

"Oh, no need to worry, I'm quite old, so I won't do anything at all. Take your time, otherwise, you might catch a cold..." Speaking in fluent Japanese, he shocked the trio, who, still guarding themselves, gingerly continued their job. As Simon sat listening to the rain, a bright flash suddenly erupted in front of him. Annoyed, he turned his head towards the trio, wanting to warn them to tone down their phones. Yet as he did so, he was met with a gallery of shocked faces.

Whaa...?

Just as he was about to question them about what was occurring, he realised where the light was coming from.

Turns out, there seemed to be a pattern etched into the solid concrete floor. Twisted along the patterns were obscure words, words that did not seem to belong to this plane of existence. Just as he was about to ask whether they knew what was going on, all of them disappeared in an instance.

After the magic circle vanishes, a pair of black boots materialises in the bus station, along with the rain stopping.
