Chapter 2 - The Body In The Void

Feeling himself hurtling through the void, Simon's lips were pulled back to his ears, his mouth exposed to the raw elements of the space-time continuum. Shit, shit, shiiiiiiiiitttt! My mouth's on fire!

As he turned his head to his left, he notices the sleeping figures of the three high school students, covered in a white light barrier. As they get dragged throughout the space, he could not help but feel envy towards them. Ah, the barrier's protecting them from the exposure in the time-space continuum. No mortal man can possibly survive in this harsh environment without some sort of protection. Judging from the various symptoms I'm getting, I estimate that I only have less than half an hour (well 23 minutes and 53 seconds, 52 seconds, 51 sec...)

Chuckling at the dismal calculations, Simon shakes his head. As his body starts to disintegrate, he turns his head to his surroundings. There, he witnesses myriad phenomena, miracles that were once theorised, yet not proven.

He witnessed the birth of a galaxy, bright colours suddenly blooming into a flower, sparkling in the dark canvas. He witnessed the death of a universe, its stars dimming, before being dragged into a centre, like being drained through a sink. He witnessed many more, each more beautiful than the last.

Yet his awe soon turned into fear.

He witnessed a behemoth opening its giant maw, tearing open a galaxy in half, before swallowing it in one gulp. He witnessed a giant burning humanoid, cleaving asunder the void, forging new worlds with each swing. He witnessed wars of epic proportions, where beings of all kinds fought, tearing against each other, limb by limb.

As he witnessed each and every spectacle, his mind slowly grew more and more corrupted, tentacles and gears emerging from every part of his body. The more he witnessed, the quicker the corruption grew, till he slowly felt himself getting lost. As he was left in despair, he, lifting his tired head for possibly the last time, witnessed a gigantic, mechanical construct, floating in the void.

Awestruck in its beauty, he could not help but start crying. Even he did not know why, yet tears still flooded down his cheeks. As the group got closer to the body, the barrier shone even brighter, obviously very agitated by the presence of the body.

But this did not apply to Simon, for he was the only one not protected by the barrier.

As he felt despair at the realisation that this was possibly his last coherent thought, he gazed upon the dim being. Eyes wandering, he grew attracted to a feeble bronze beam. Turning his head ever so slowly, he gazed upon the mechanical being. As his gaze wandered upon the body, it soon landed upon its destination:

A pair of bronze hands, intricate gears displayed everywhere.

They look so...majestic...

As his gaze lay enamoured upon the hands, they suddenly clenched.

Shocked, he looked up, only to see that the being's head was still dim.

Just as he was wondering what on Earth was going on, a ball of light emerged from the clenched fists, merging with his mess of hands.
