Chereads / Mafia System: Return of the Leader / Chapter 8 - The Lost Truth

Chapter 8 - The Lost Truth

Edgar fell to the ground, his eyes wide with shock as blood slowly seeped from his forehead.

Will didn't move for a moment, his sharp eyes scanning the darkness.

Jack shouted, "It's an ambush! Take cover!"

Gunshots rang out from the shadows, the sound of bullets tearing through the silence of the abandoned port.

Will ducked behind a metal shipping container, thinking quickly.

"Someone doesn't want us to know the truth…" he muttered, gripping his gun tightly.

Ruby, observing from a distance through her thermal goggles, spoke through the earpiece: "There are four attackers, scattered positions. Sending coordinates now."

Will responded quickly, "Clear a path for us. We're getting out alive."

Jack grinned despite the situation and said, "No problem, I love fireworks."

Jack threw a flashbang into the darkness, blinding the attackers for a few seconds.

Will emerged from behind the container, firing precise shots that took down one attacker instantly.

The second attacker aimed at Will, but Jack leapt from the side and knocked him out with a strong hit from his rifle.

"Two left…" Will muttered, moving cautiously between the containers.

Ruby's voice came through the radio, "One is behind the red container, the other is on the warehouse roof."

Will focused on the red container, approaching silently before suddenly lunging, only to find the attacker pointing a gun at him.

But before the attacker could shoot, Jack fired a clean shot that took him down.

"Knew you had my back," Will said with a small smile.

"Always," Jack replied.

The last attacker remained on the warehouse roof, observing from above.

Ruby's voice came through, "Can't get a clear shot from here. You're closer, Will."

Will looked at the metal stairs leading up to the roof.

"Alright, let's end this."

He climbed swiftly, each step silent.

When he reached the top, the attacker was waiting, aiming directly at Will's chest.

"One more step, and it's your last," the attacker warned.

Will didn't move but responded with a cold smile, "You're making a mistake."

The attacker chuckled, "I'm the one holding the gun here."

But in a flash, Will tossed his gun into the air, distracting the attacker for just a second.

And that second was enough…

Will lunged forward, delivering a powerful punch that knocked the attacker to the ground.

Grabbing him by the collar, Will demanded, "Who sent you?"

But the attacker smirked and said, "You're already too late."

Before Will could ask another question, the attacker bit down on a small capsule…

"Poison!" Will shouted, but it was too late.

Jack arrived on the roof, looking at the corpse with concern. "What a lovely evening…"

Ruby's voice crackled through the radio, "No more movement, but it seems our answers died with them."

Will clenched his fist in anger, staring at Edgar's body.

"The truth was right here… in my hands, and now it's lost," he muttered softly.

Jack placed a hand on Will's shoulder and said, "Don't worry… we'll find the truth, even if we have to tear this city apart."

Will gazed at the horizon, his eyes glowing with fierce determination.

"We'll find them… and I will know why I was brought back here."

Will sat on the edge of the rooftop after the battle, breathing heavily.

Jack sat beside him and asked quietly, "Haven't seen you this pissed in a while."

Will closed his eyes, a flicker of memory flashing through his mind—an old moment with someone he once called a brother… followed by a bloody betrayal that changed everything.

"It's not anger… it's frustration," he muttered, eyes lost in the night.

Jack smirked faintly, "Classic you. Complicated as ever, Will."

A small chuckle escaped Will despite himself, "And you're too simple."

"Someone has to be, right?"

But Will's gaze grew serious again, "Whoever sent those men knows us well… and that worries me."

Jack folded his arms, "Means they're closer than we think."

Will whispered, "Yeah… maybe inside our own mafia."

Will's phone suddenly rang—an unknown number.

"Who?" he asked quietly.

A mysterious voice replied, "If you want the truth… come alone to the old industrial district at dawn."

Will clenched his fist, "And how do I know this isn't a trap?"

The voice chuckled softly, "Nothing's guaranteed in the mafia world, Will… you know that."

The call ended abruptly.

Jack asked, "Who was that?"

Will slipped the phone into his pocket, replying calmly, "Maybe our only chance at the truth."

Jack frowned, "I don't like this…"

Will smirked coldly, "Neither do I."

At The Phoenix mafia's headquarters, the main members gathered.

Ethan, a burly man with a light beard, growled, "How did they infiltrate us?"

Louis, a calm young man with glasses, analyzed, "There must be a spy… someone feeding them our moves."

Jack glanced at everyone and voiced what they all feared, "A traitor among us."

Will entered the room, his eyes dark, "Whoever it is better hope they're innocent… because I won't show mercy."

A heavy silence filled the room.

Ruby sat alone in her small office at the police department, scanning through files on The Phoenix mafia.

She muttered to herself, "This new leader… too mysterious."

Staring at Will's photo, she whispered, "I'm sure you're hiding something big… and I'll find out what."

But deep inside, something felt off—almost as if she had known him before.

At dawn, Will stood alone in the foggy industrial district, the mist swirling around him.

A masked man emerged from the shadows, speaking softly, "I have information about your past, Will…"

Will clenched his fist, "Speak."

The man replied, "But everything has a price… are you ready to pay it?"

Will answered coldly, "I'll pay any price to know who brought me back and why."

In a distant, hidden location, a mysterious figure sat in darkness, watching a screen displaying Will's meeting with the masked man.

"Well, Will… let's see where this game takes you."

A quiet chuckle echoed as the shadows around him deepened.
