Chapter 1 - The New Kid

I trudged through the school's front doors, my eyes scanning the crowded hallway. I had been dreading this day for weeks. New school, new town, new life. It was all so overwhelming.

My mom had dragged me to this tiny town in the middle of nowhere, saying it was a "fresh start" for both of us. But I knew the truth. She was running from her past, and I was stuck along for the ride.

As I made my way through the sea of unfamiliar faces, I spotted a group of kids eyeing me from across the hallway. One of them, a tall, muscular guy with a smirk on his face, caught my eye.

"Hey, you're the new kid, right?" he asked, sauntering over to me.

"Yeah," I replied, trying to sound casual. "I'm Alex."

The guy nodded, his smirk growing wider. "I'm Jake. Welcome to Ravenswood High."

I nodded, feeling a sense of unease. There was something about Jake that didn't sit right with me.

As we stood there, a girl with long, curly brown hair and bright green eyes walked up to us. "Hey, Jake," she said, smiling. "Leave him alone."

Jake rolled his eyes. "Fine, Maddie. I was just welcoming him to the school."

Maddie turned to me, her eyes sparkling with kindness. "Hi, I'm Maddie. Don't mind Jake. He's just a jerk."

I smiled, feeling a sense of relief. Maybe this school wouldn't be so bad after all.

But as I stood there, chatting with Maddie and trying to avoid Jake's glare, I couldn't shake the feeling that something was off. Something that had nothing to do with the school or the people in it.

It was a feeling that had been growing inside me for weeks, a feeling that I couldn't quite explain.

As I walked away from Maddie and Jake, I couldn't help but wonder: what was happening to me? I had been feeling strange for weeks, ever since we moved to Ravenswood. At first, I thought it was just the stress of starting a new school and making new friends. But as the days went by, the feelings only intensified.

I felt restless and agitated, like there was something inside me trying to get out. I would get these sudden, intense mood swings, where I would go from feeling perfectly fine to feeling like I was on the verge of exploding.

And then there were the dreams. Vivid, intense dreams that felt more real than my waking life. Dreams of running through the forest, of feeling the wind in my hair and the sun on my face. Dreams of being free, of being wild.

I didn't know what to make of these feelings and dreams. I didn't know what was happening to me. But I knew one thing for sure: I couldn't shake the feeling that something was coming, something big.

As I walked through the school hallways, I felt like I was on edge, like I was waiting for something to happen. And then, just as I was starting to think that maybe I was just being paranoid, I saw him.

A tall, brooding figure with piercing yellow eyes. He was standing across the hallway, staring at me with an intensity that made my skin crawl.

I felt a shiver run down my spine as our eyes met. And then, just as suddenly as he appeared, he was gone.

I was left standing there, feeling like I had just seen a ghost. Who was that guy? And what did he want with me?

I stood there for a moment, trying to process what had just happened. Who was that guy? And why did he seem so... intense?

I shook my head, trying to clear the cobwebs. I must have been seeing things. There was no way that guy was really staring at me like that.

I continued on to my next class, trying to focus on the lesson. But my mind kept wandering back to the mysterious guy. Who was he? And what did he want with me?

As the day went on, I found myself glancing around the hallways, hoping to catch a glimpse of him again. But he was nowhere to be found.

It wasn't until lunchtime that I saw him again. He was sitting at a table in the corner of the cafeteria, staring at me with the same intense gaze as before.

I felt a shiver run down my spine as our eyes met. And then, just as suddenly as before, he looked away.

I was left standing there, feeling like I had just been punched in the gut. What was going on? Why was this guy staring at me like that?

I decided to take matters into my own hands. I walked over to the table where the guy was sitting and cleared my throat.

"Hey," I said, trying to sound casual. "Can I talk to you for a minute?"

The guy looked up at me, his eyes narrowing slightly. "What do you want?" he asked, his voice low and gravelly.

I hesitated for a moment, unsure of how to respond. But then I took a deep breath and plunged ahead.

"I want to know why you're staring at me," I said, trying to keep my voice steady.

The guy raised an eyebrow, a small smile playing on his lips. "I'm staring at you because you're interesting," he said, his voice dripping with sarcasm.

I felt a surge of anger at his response, but I tried to keep my cool. "What do you mean?" I asked, trying to sound calm.

The guy leaned forward, his eyes glinting with amusement. "I mean that you're not like the other kids around here," he said, his voice low and mysterious. "You've got a certain... energy about you. A certain wildness."

I felt a shiver run down my spine at his words. What did he mean? And how did he know?

But before I could ask him any questions, he stood up and walked away, leaving me standing there feeling confused and more than a little scared.

I watched as the guy walked away, feeling a mix of emotions. I was confused, scared, and more than a little curious. Who was this guy, and how did he know so much about me?

As I stood there, trying to process what had just happened, I felt a tap on my shoulder. I turned to see Maddie standing behind me, a concerned look on her face.

"Hey, are you okay?" she asked, eyeing the guy who had just walked away. "What did he say to you?"

I hesitated for a moment, unsure of how much to reveal. But something about Maddie's kind face put me at ease, and I found myself telling her everything.

As I finished my story, Maddie's expression turned serious. "I think I know who that guy might be," she said, her voice low. "His name is Lucas, and he's...different. Some people around here think he's trouble."

I raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "What do you mean?" I asked.

Maddie glanced around nervously, as if she was afraid of being overheard. "I don't know if I should be telling you this," she said, "but...Lucas is rumored to be a werewolf."

I felt a laugh rise up in my throat, but it died on my lips as I saw the serious look on Maddie's face. She wasn't joking.
