I stared at Maddie, my mind reeling with the implications. "A werewolf?" I repeated, trying to keep my voice down.
Maddie nodded, her eyes serious. "I know it sounds crazy, but there are rumors that Lucas is...different. That he can transform into a wolf."
I felt a shiver run down my spine as I thought about Lucas's intense gaze. Could it be true? Was he really a werewolf?
As I stood there, trying to process this new information, I couldn't help but think about the strange feelings I'd been having lately. The restlessness, the mood swings...could it be related to Lucas?
I pushed the thought aside, telling myself I was being ridiculous. But the seed of doubt had been planted, and I couldn't shake the feeling that something was off.
Maddie seemed to sense my unease. "Hey, don't worry about it," she said, placing a reassuring hand on my arm. "It's just small-town gossip. I'm sure it's not true."
But I couldn't shake the feeling that there was more to the story. I decided to press Maddie for more information.
"What else do you know about Lucas?" I asked, my curiosity getting the better of me.
Maddie hesitated, glancing around nervously. "I don't know if I should be telling you this," she said, "but...Lucas has always been a bit of an outsider. He's never really fit in with the rest of us."
I raised an eyebrow. "What do you mean?"
Maddie leaned in, her voice barely above a whisper. "He's always been a bit...wild. He's been known to disappear for days at a time, and when he comes back, he's always...different."
I felt a shiver run down my spine. "Different how?"
Maddie hesitated, as if unsure of how to answer. "His eyes seem...darker, somehow. And his smile...it's like he's hiding something."
I felt a chill run down my spine. Lucas's eyes did seem darker than usual, and his smile...I had noticed that it seemed a bit off.
But I still couldn't believe that Lucas was a werewolf. It was just too crazy.
As I stood there, trying to process everything, I noticed a group of kids staring at us from across the hallway. They seemed to be whispering among themselves, and I could sense their eyes on me.
I felt a surge of unease. What were they talking about? And why were they staring at me?
Maddie seemed to sense my unease. "Don't worry about them," she said, placing a reassuring hand on my arm. "They're just jealous."
But I couldn't shake the feeling that something was off. And as I looked over at the group of kids, I could have sworn that I saw Lucas standing among them, his eyes fixed intently on me.
I felt a shiver run down my spine. What was going on? And why did I feel like I was being watched all the time?
As the bell rang, signaling the end of lunch, I breathed a sigh of relief. I was glad to be getting out of there, away from the whispers and the stares.
But as I walked out of the cafeteria with Maddie, I couldn't shake the feeling that I was being pulled into something much bigger than myself. Something that I didn't fully understand.
And as we walked down the hallway, I caught a glimpse of Lucas out of the corner of my eye. He was standing by his locker, staring at me with an intensity that made my skin crawl.
I felt a shiver run down my spine. What did he want from me? And why did I feel like I was being drawn to him, despite the danger that seemed to surround him?
As I walked away from Lucas, I couldn't help but wonder what lay ahead. Was I really destined to become embroiled in some kind of supernatural drama? And what did Lucas have to do with it all?
I didn't have any answers, but I was determined to find out. Little did I know, my life was about to change in ways I never could have imagined.
