Kasela woke up the next morning due to her phone ringing, she looked at the screen and saw her aunt's name on it.
"Good morning aunt" she greeted enthustically as the last trace of sleep disappeared from her eyes.
"Good morning Kasela, how was your first day at school" her aunt asked at the other side of the phone.
" It was good" Kasela answered and proceeded to tell her how she went to the canteen and took a long walk round the school.
They chatted for a while and ended the call. Kasela freshened up and opened the door, she was surprised to see Brenda who stood at the entrance about to knock on the door.
"Good morning Kasela" Brenda greeted cheerfully.
"Good morning Brenda" Kasela murmured.
"What's wrong? Didn't you sleep well last night?" Brenda asked with a friend.
"No, I did sleep well, I'm just feeling a little down today" Kasela answered.
"Hmm,okay let's go grab breakfast'" Brenda said.
Kasela nodded her head, she looked at the time on her phone and realized it was past 9:am already. While going to the canteen Kasela looked at Brenda who walked in front and fell into a deep thought.
Brenda was too friendly with her, she was surprised to see her coming to wait for her and she felt a little scared. Who knows if she has an ulterior motive. She had never have friends and her classmates bullied at her at every given chance, she had actually thought they were good people and tried to be friends with them, however they thought of her as a poor and low class girl. Coupled with the fact that she was younger than them, they mocked and embarrassed her at every given opportunity. Kasela never thought of having friends again and she wasn't sure she could trust anyone including Brenda.
'what if she's just acting kind and will betray me later?" She asked herself
She couldn't afford to make the mistake of trusting people blindly. After eating, Brenda suggested they visit the library and Kasela agreed. The library was very large and contained different kind of books for each department, Kasela was awed by the big shelves that contained different books. Some books were so heavy that she was panting by the time she successfully brought down one to the table. She opened it and was confused at seeing the writings written in a strange language. She called Brenda who was at the other side of the shelf. Brenda was equally confused and said maybe it was one of the native languages of the town the school was situated in. They returned the book and continued exploring the big library.
Kasela suddenly noticed a locked wooden door at the far right corner of the library, which looked hidden and also darker than any part of the library. She felt curious and also drawn towards it. Unconsciously, she began walking towards there when Brenda who noticed it grabbed her hand and also dragged her far away from there and out of the library.
"What were you trying to do?" She asked Kasela.
" I wanted to check out what was there" Kasela answered truthfully making Brenda inhale and exhale deeply.
"Look, that place is one of the forbidden places in this school, as to why it is forbidden, I don't know but don't you ever go there again". Brenda said.
Though Kasela was confused she nodded her head and they left. That sat in the hall and watched more students coming into the school in different flashy cars. Classes was meant to start the following day and so more students were coming into the school. Kasela looked around and noticed that she once scanty school was getting crowded. They spent the rest of the day chatting and walking round and finally retired to their different rooms.
