The bright rays of light illuminated Cassandra as she exhaled deeply. Stretching and yawning simultaneously, she slowly rose to her feet, glancing around the room.
"Breakfast is ready, bunny," Nikolai said as he entered the room, carrying a tray of food. He placed it on the table and shrugged at Cassandra, who was glaring at him.
"Do you think you can earn my trust with this? Offering me breakfast in bed?" she snapped, walking towards him with her hands on her hips.
"You cried yourself to sleep in my arms last night, so I thought a cup of coffee might help calm your nerves today. I guess I was wrong," Nikolai replied gently.
A loud gasp escaped Cassandra's lips as her eyes widened in realization. "You saw me crying?" she asked, her voice barely audible. The last thing she wanted was for him to see her vulnerable, but it was too late. She remembered how she had fallen into his embrace and the comfort he had offered.
