Sophia's eyes adjusted slowly to the darkness. She could make out the boy's features, his sharp jawline and piercing eyes. He was even more handsome up close.
"What's your name?" Sophia asked, trying to break the silence.
"I'm Jake," the boy replied, his voice low and smooth.
Sophia's heart skipped a beat. There was something about Jake's voice that made her feel all fluttery inside.
"I'm Sophia," she said, trying to sound calm.
Jake nodded, his eyes never leaving hers. "Nice to meet you, Sophia."
As they stood there, the silence between them grew thicker. Sophia tried to think of something to say, but her mind was a blank.
It was Jake who broke the silence finally. "We need to find a way out of here."
Sophia nodded, feeling a surge of relief. "Yeah. Do you think the door is stuck?"
Jake tried the door handle again, but it wouldn't budge. "I think it's locked."
Sophia's eyes widened. "Locked? But why?"
Jake shrugged. "I don't know. Maybe the janitor forgot to unlock it."
As they stood there, trying to figure out what to do, Sophia couldn't help but steal glances at Jake. He was even more handsome than she had thought initially.
And there was something about him that seemed familiar.
Sophia's eyes narrowed as she tried to place him. Where had she seen him before?
But before she could figure it out, Jake spoke up. "We need to find another way out."
Sophia nodded, feeling a surge of determination. "Let's do it."
