Chapter 12 - Chapter 12: Forced to Kill for the First Time (1/2)

The drunkard turned his head again and looked at the trash bin,"The divine remains have already been taken away by the sanitation workers. But don't they only collect the trash at midnight?"

"Could it be that I was drinking with Bruce for more than half a day? More than half a day, and we only drank four or five bottles?"

He scratched his head regretfully and muttered to himself,"Getting older... can't hold my liquor anymore... Two bottles, and I'm drunk for half a day. Gotta drink less in the future... Otherwise... it'll affect hunting gods..."

After speaking, he staggered away.

Qin Siyang didn't hesitate—he couldn't afford to. He just ran tirelessly down the small path.

The path was dark and deserted, allowing him to flee at full speed.

When he reached the end of the path and returned to the main road, he pretended to be an ordinary pedestrian again, keeping his head down and walking quickly. Then, he took the opportunity to slip into another side alley. This escape strategy made his journey smooth—no one paid attention to this plainly dressed young man.

Perhaps due to his sequence advancement, his stamina was fully replenished. The exhaustion from earlier was completely gone, and his entire body felt even more energized.

"I've been running for almost twenty minutes, passed a public transit stop, and still no one has caught up."

Qin Siyang remained extremely vigilant, his heart pounding. Blood surged to his brain, keeping him in a state of heightened focus.

His peripheral vision scanned the surroundings, constantly checking for any footsteps behind him, fearing discovery.

"Damn it, if that drunkard hadn't shown up, I could've finished eating everything. I was so close!"

Thinking of that drunkard, Qin Siyang felt both resentment and relief.

The guy was completely wasted, barely able to walk straight, taking two steps forward and one step back while holding onto the wall for support.

He probably couldn't even see clearly, and his mind was muddled.

If the person who spotted him had been sober, they would have immediately noticed something was wrong and reported it to the United Government.

If that had happened, Qin Siyang might have already been caught.

It felt like fate itself was watching over him.

"If I get caught with this backpack full of divine remains, there's no way I could talk my way out of it."

Even without the remains, he would still be within the suspect range and would have a hard time escaping. Let alone the fact that he was actually carrying over a dozen divine remains in his backpack.

He had chosen to take them because he could already foresee that after tonight, his luck of finding divine remains in trash bins was basically over.

The disappearance of divine remains wasn't considered a serious matter since they had no value.

Qin Siyang had previously read in the internet café, "Humans cannot digest divine remains. They can only vomit them out intact or excrete them unchanged."

No one would bother stealing something that had no use.

But even if divine remains were useless, the fact that they were disappearing was bizarre.

If they were worthless, why would someone steal them? Was there some hidden scheme behind this?

Two days in a row, divine remains from two different trash bins had vanished—it was bound to attract attention.

The police were probably already aware of the situation.

Qin Siyang had stolen from the trash bins for two consecutive days to become stronger as quickly as possible. If it had been someone else, they might have taken things slowly, stealing only a bit at a time instead of cleaning them out completely.

But Qin Siyang had learned his lesson about "taking things slowly" in his past life.

He had once believed that promotions came step by step, accumulating experience over time, eventually leading to career advancement. But in the end, he had waited his whole life and never even got promoted once.

That made him realize—slow and steady was a strategy for those who already had a foundation, for the capitalists. But for someone like him, a penniless nobody, "strike while the iron is hot" was the only way to turn things around.

His ability to withstand unforeseen circumstances was too weak. Even the slightest ripple could completely ruin him.

What if the United Government started stationing guards at every trash bin? What would he do then? Stay hidden forever? Who knew when another chance like this would come?

Now that he had been reborn, he refused to sit around and wait anymore. If something could be done today, he would never put it off until tomorrow.

Opportunities fade with time. If you hesitate, you lose.

It was foreseeable that trying to retrieve divine remains from trash bins again would almost certainly expose him.

Since this was his last chance, and the only witness was a sluggish drunkard, of course, he had to take everything he could.

Besides, whether he took the remains or not, if the United Government caught him, escape would still be nearly impossible.

The bold survive, the timid starve.

Qin Siyang glanced at his backpack, noticing a slight bloodstain seeping through. He quickly shifted it into his arms and darted into a narrow alley, continuing his escape.

The alley was different from the main road—it didn't have streetlights placed at intervals, leaving it shrouded in complete darkness.

The only source of light came from the starlit sky above, shining through the air-defense glass that covered the safety zone.

With his enhanced physique, Qin Siyang could see the path through the alley clearly.

The darkness worked to his advantage, concealing his face. Even if someone passed by, he could sprint past them without worrying about being seen.

'Just a bit more, and I'll be home safe.'

But just as he turned into a particularly dim alleyway—

Something unexpected happened.

A small dagger flew from the shadows, aiming straight for his right eye.

'What the hell?'

With his heightened agility, Qin Siyang immediately dodged the moment he saw the dagger.

The blade clattered onto the ground, striking the stone pavement with a crisp sound.

His gaze locked onto three figures standing by the roadside.

They all had messy, unkempt hair and mischievous grins.

"Well, well, didn't expect to catch such a fat sheep just by sleeping here."

"Looks like we're in luck tonight, huh?"

The three men stood up, surrounding Qin Siyang.

Qin Siyang asked coldly,"What do you want?"

"What do we want? Isn't it obvious? We're robbing you."

Robbery?

Couldn't they tell from his tattered clothes that he was dirt poor?

What was there to steal from someone like him?

"I have no money.",Qin Siyang frowned, growing increasingly anxious.

He had no time to waste arguing with these guys.

Any moment now, the disappearance of the divine remains could be discovered. He needed to get as far away from Exit 89757 as possible, fast.

Right now, he was only two stops away—nowhere near safe.

And he was carrying a backpack full of divine remains.

One of the men pushed his greasy bangs aside, revealing a wicked smirk,"No money? No problem. Just leave the backpack."

'These guys… they are after my bag?'

Qin Siyang glanced down at the backpack in his arms, subtly shifting his grip to cover the bloodstained spot.

'This is bad.'

"This bag… doesn't have anything valuable.",he said,"But I can't give it to you."
