Chapter 14 - Chapter fourteen: AFTERMATH

Scarlett drove home in a daze, her mind reeling from the confrontation with Bastian. She couldn't believe it had ended like that, but a part of her was relieved. Relieved that she had finally found the strength to walk away.

As she pulled into her driveway, Scarlett noticed her best friend, Emily, waiting on the porch. Emily had been her rock throughout the entire ordeal, offering advice and support whenever Scarlett needed it.

"Hey, girl," Emily said, as Scarlett got out of the car. "I've been waiting for you. How did it go?"

Scarlett shook her head, feeling a lump form in her throat. "It's over," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. "I finally ended it."

Emily wrapped her arms around Scarlett, pulling her into a tight hug. "I'm so proud of you," she said. "You deserve so much better than Bastian."

Scarlett smiled, feeling a sense of gratitude towards her friend. "Thanks, Emily," she said. "I don't know what I would do without you."

As they hugged, Scarlett felt a sense of peace wash over her. She knew she still had a long way to go, but with Emily by her side, she felt like she could face anything.

The next few days passed in a blur. Scarlett spent most of her time holed up in her room, trying to process her emotions. She knew she needed time to heal, and she was determined to take it.

But as the days turned into weeks, Scarlett started to feel restless. She knew she couldn't stay hidden away forever. It was time to start living again.

And that's when she saw him - Calix, standing outside her favorite coffee shop, looking more handsome than ever. Scarlett's heart skipped a beat as their eyes met, and for a moment, she forgot to breathe.

Her heart was racing as she walked towards Calix. She hadn't seen him since the whole ordeal with Bastian, and she wasn't sure what to expect.

"Hey," Calix said, smiling as Scarlett approached.

Scarlett smiled back, feeling a little nervous. "Hey, Calix. What are you doing here?"

Calix shrugged. "Just grabbing a coffee. I saw you walking towards the shop and thought I'd say hi."

Scarlett nodded, feeling a sense of unease. How did Calix know she was walking towards the shop?

"I'm glad I ran into you, Scarlett," Calix said, his eyes locked on hers. "I heard about you and Bastian. I'm sorry."

Scarlett's eyes widened in surprise. "How did you know?" she asked, feeling a sense of unease.

Calix hesitated for a moment before responding. "I have my ways," he said with a smile.

Scarlett raised an eyebrow, feeling a sense of curiosity. What did Calix mean by that?

But before she could ask any questions, Calix spoke up again. "Anyway, I'm glad you're doing okay. You deserve so much better than Bastian."

Scarlett felt a sense of gratitude towards Calix. He was always so kind and supportive.

"Thanks, Calix," she said, smiling. "That means a lot coming from you."

As they stood there, chatting, Scarlett couldn't help but feel a sense of comfort around Calix. He was easy to talk to, and he always seemed to know what to say.

But as they parted ways, Scarlett couldn't shake off the feeling that Calix was hiding something. How did he really know about her breakup with Bastian?

Scarlett couldn't concentrate on her studies for the rest of the day. Her mind kept wandering back to Calix and their conversation earlier. How did he know about her breakup with Bastian? And what did he mean by "I have my ways"?

As the day drew to a close, Scarlett decided to do some digging. She wanted to know more about Calix and how he seemed to know so much about her personal life.

Scarlett started by asking her friends if they knew anything about Calix. But no one seemed to know much about him beyond the fact that he was a nice guy and a good listener and above all a playboy.

Undeterred, Scarlett decided to do some online research. She started by searching for Calix's name on social media, but he didn't seem to have any accounts.

As the evening wore on, Scarlett became more and more frustrated. Who was Calix, and why did he seem to know so much about her?

Just as Scarlett was about to give up, her phone buzzed with an incoming text message. It was from an unknown number, but the message sent a shiver down Scarlett's spine.

"Be careful, Scarlett. You don't know what you're getting yourself into."

Scarlett's heart was racing as she stared at the text message. Who could have sent it? And what did they mean by "you don't know what you're getting yourself into"?

She tried to brush it off as a prank, but the message had left her with a sense of unease. She couldn't shake off the feeling that someone was watching her.

As she tried to distract herself by watching TV, Scarlett's mind kept wandering back to Calix. Was he somehow connected to the mysterious text message?

She didn't have any answers, but she knew one thing - she was going to confront Calix about it.

The next day, Scarlett saw Calix at the coffee shop again. This time, she was determined to get some answers.

"Calix, can I talk to you for a minute?" Scarlett asked, her voice firm.

Calix looked up from his phone, a hint of surprise on his face. "Of course, Scarlett. What's up?"

Scarlett took a deep breath before launching into her questions. "How did you know about my breakup with Bastian? And what's going on with these weird text messages I'm getting?"

Calix's expression changed from surprise to caution. "What text messages?" he asked, his voice neutral.

Scarlett's eyes narrowed. "Don't play dumb, Calix. I know you know something. Tell me what's going on."

Calix sighed, rubbing his temples. "Scarlett, I..."

But before he could finish, a loud noise interrupted them. The coffee shop's door burst open, and a tall, menacing figure strode in.

"Calix, we need to talk," the figure growled, his eyes fixed on Calix.

Scarlett's heart skipped a beat. Who was this guy, and what did he want with Calix?

The menacing figure towered over Calix, his eyes blazing with intensity. Calix, however, remained calm, his expression unreadable.

"I don't think this is the right time or place," Calix said, his voice firm but polite.

The figure sneered, his lip curling up. "You think you can hide from me, Calix? You think you can just ignore me and I'll go away?"

Scarlett's eyes widened as she watched the exchange. Who was this guy, and what did he want with Calix?

"Hey, back off," Scarlett said, standing up to the menacing figure. "You're being really aggressive."

The figure turned to Scarlett, his eyes narrowing. "And who are you? His little girlfriend?"

Calix stood up, his eyes flashing with anger. "That's enough," he said, his voice low and menacing. "Leave her alone."

The figure sneered again, but this time, he backed off. "This isn't over, Calix," he said, before turning and storming out of the coffee shop.

Scarlett let out a breath as the tension in the room dissipated. "What was that all about?" she asked Calix.

Calix's expression was grim. "I'll tell you later," he said. "Let's just get out of here, okay?"

Scarlett nodded, still feeling a bit shaken by the encounter. "Okay, let's go."

Calix quickly paid for their drinks and escorted Scarlett out of the coffee shop. As they walked, Scarlett couldn't help but notice the way Calix's eyes scanned the surrounding area, as if he was searching for something or someone.

"Calix, what's going on?" Scarlett asked, her voice barely above a whisper. "Who was that guy, and what did he want with you?"

Calix hesitated, his eyes darting around nervously. "I'll tell you everything, Scarlett. But not here. Can I take you somewhere safe?"

Scarlett's heart skipped a beat. What did Calix mean by "somewhere safe"? And what was going on that he couldn't tell her in public?

Despite her reservations, Scarlett nodded. "Okay, take me somewhere safe."

Calix nodded, his eyes locking onto hers. "Trust me, Scarlett. I'll keep you safe."

And with that, Calix led Scarlett to a sleek black car parked nearby. He opened the door for her, and Scarlett slid inside, feeling a sense of trepidation mixed with curiosity.

Where was Calix taking her? And what secrets was he hiding?

As the car drove away from the coffee shop, Scarlett's mind was racing with questions. Where was Calix taking her? What did he mean by "somewhere safe"? And what was going on that he couldn't tell her in public?

The car drove through the city, taking a series of twists and turns that left Scarlett disoriented. She tried to ask Calix where they were going, but he just shook his head and told her to be patient.

Finally, the car pulled up to a nondescript building in a quiet neighborhood. Calix got out of the car and opened the door for Scarlett, gesturing for her to follow him.

Scarlett hesitated for a moment, unsure of what to do. But something about Calix's expression reassured her, and she followed him into the building.

Inside, the building was surprisingly luxurious, with sleek modern decor and a state-of-the-art security system. Calix led Scarlett to a private room on the top floor, with a stunning view of the city.

"Welcome to my safe house," Calix said, gesturing for Scarlett to take a seat. "I'm sorry I had to bring you here, but I need to tell you something. Something important."

Scarlett's heart was racing with anticipation. What was Calix going to tell her? And why did he need to bring her to a safe house to do it?
