Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Escape

Su Hao had experienced so many different ways of dying that he had lost the intense fear of death, which allowed him to remain relatively calm in this life-threatening situation.

The threat of death was right before him, and Su Hao knew there was little chance of escaping this time, but he was not about to surrender without a fight.

The assailant's eyes were bloodshot, his mind lost to madness. His movements were erratic, driven by fury rather than skill, as he swung a rusted machete in wide, uncontrolled arcs. The sharp, metallic sound of the blade cutting through the air was terrifying, yet the chaotic frenzy of his slashes kept him from hitting anything.

Su Hao quickly assessed the trajectory of the blade, ducked his head, and rolled sideways with all his strength, narrowly avoiding the hasty slash. He scrambled to his feet and dashed toward the children's playground in the classroom, hoping the obstacles there might provide him some cover.

The assailant missed his first strike and didn't think much of it. Just as he was about to make another slash, he saw the little kid rolling and crawling away.

'Run? You think you can run away from me?' the man muttered darkly, his breath coming in labored gasps. His fingers tightened around the machete's handle, knuckles white with rage. A cruel gleam flashed in the assailant's eyes as he sluggish chased after Su Hao.

Su Hao glanced back and saw the assailant just three steps behind, raising his machete to strike again. Su Hao predicted the blade's trajectory—it was aimed at his right shoulder.

Without hesitation, Su Hao threw himself on the ground, and the machete whizzed past his head, narrowly missing his skull.

Just as Su Hao was about to get up and continue running, he felt a strong hand grip his ankle and drag him backward. No matter how much he struggled, he couldn't stop his body from being pulled back.

'It's over!' Su Hao lamented inwardly. Was there really no way for him to survive past the age of 5.

The assailant smiled triumphantly, knowing this pesky child was not going to escape this time. He raised his machete a third time, preparing to slash down on Su Hao's back.

"Clang~!"

The machete struck the hard plastic on Su Hao's back and bounced off with a crisp sound.

The assailant froze, then slashed again, only for the machete to bounce off once more. Frustrated, he yanked Su Hao's shirt open, and the two plastic boards dropped to the floor. His eyes gleamed with rage as he raised the machete again, determined to see what this annoying child would use to block or dodge his next attack!

At the moment the plastic boards fell away, Su Hao quickly reached into his pocket and grabbed a handful of loose sand, throwing it directly into the assailant's face.

Instinctively, the assailant let go of Su Hao's ankle and raised his hand to shield his eyes. Though he managed to block most of the sand, some still got into his eyes due to the close distance and Su Hao's swift, unexpected move.

"Argh!" The assailant screamed, frantically blinking and rubbing his eyes.

Su Hao quickly scrambled to his feet and delivered a solid Kick to the assailant's groin.

"Ugh—!" The assailant's machete slipped from his hand as he clutched his privates in pain, slowly sinking to the ground.

Su Hao immediately bolted for the door.

The sand in the assailant's eyes would soon be cleared by his tears, and he would recover from the groin hit in a few seconds. If Su Hao didn't escape now, he wouldn't stand a chance when the assailant picked up the machete again.

Su Hao dashed out the door and saw a group of men in their thirties and forties, wielding various sticks and improvised weapons, rushing toward the classroom.

"Phew~, reinforcements are finally here!" Su Hao sighed in relief and kept running until one of the men scooped him up.

The man carried Su Hao into the crowd, placing him among a group of protected children before turning back and charging back into the classroom.

The little kids were crying and sniffling, but when they saw Su Hao, they paused for a moment. Su Hao's gaze swept over them, and all the kids immediately stopped crying, turning their heads away and silently sobbing.

Before long, a struggle broke out in the classroom. The assailant, still half-blinded, was swiftly subdued by the group of men. In the distance, the blaring of sirens grew louder as ambulances and police cars raced toward the scene.

Su Hao waved his tiny hand in excitement; he was safe, at least for now.

He was still panting heavily, his little heart pounding from the excessive tension, his face flushed red.

Had he made even the slightest mistake due to panic, he would be lying in the classroom now, waiting for an ambulance. He knew his small body wouldn't have been able to withstand a blow from that gleaming machete.

The most dangerous moment was when the assailant grabbed his ankle—Su Hao had been like a fish on the chopping board, completely at the assailant's mercy. If the machete had struck his head instead of his back, he would have been dead for sure.

As Su Hao gradually calmed down, he noticed how much he had changed. In the past, he would never have been able to remain calm and think clearly while facing such a vicious attacker.

Having experienced death and rebirth countless times, Su Hao's mental fortitude had grown exceptionally strong. The more critical the moment, the more composed his thinking became.

But this wasn't entirely a good thing; he had lost his fear of death. This, upon closer reflection, was terrifying—it was equivalent to losing the will to fight for survival in desperate situations.

Soon, the incident was resolved. The scene was cordoned off, the police took the assailant away, and the injured children and security guards were rushed to the hospital for treatment. The kindergarten teachers notified parents to come and pick up their kids, and a swarm of reporters arrived to cover the event.

When Huang Shujun arrived at the kindergarten, her face full of panic, and saw Su Hao unharmed, her tears burst forth like a flood. She hugged Su Hao tightly and refused to let go.

Su Hao was grateful he was still alive. If he had really died today, he couldn't imagine the pain and guilt his mother would have endured.

….

Before long, a video of the incident started circulating.

The footage showed a small boy repeatedly dodging the assailant's attacks and ultimately fighting back, injuring the assailant and escaping successfully.

The little boy in the video was none other than Su Hao.

The comment section exploded immediately.
