Duncan's mind was reeling with the implications of Lyra's words. Someone close to him, someone he trusted, was working with Rectale? It couldn't be true.
As he stood there, frozen in shock, Emel laid a hand on his arm.
"Jon Ander, what's wrong?" she asked, her voice full of concern.
Duncan shook his head, trying to clear the cobwebs. "Lyra said that Rectale has a powerful ally," he said. "Someone close to me."
Emel's eyes widened in surprise. "Who could it be?" she asked.
Duncan shook his head. "I don't know," he said. "But I'm going to find out."
Together, they began to make their way back to the city's central square, their eyes scanning the crowds for any sign of the traitor.
As they walked, Duncan couldn't shake the feeling that they were being watched. He kept looking over his shoulder, expecting to see someone lurking in the shadows.
But there was never anyone there.
When they arrived at the central square, Duncan called a meeting with the city's leaders. He told them about Lyra's warning, and asked for their help in uncovering the traitor.
The leaders were shocked and outraged, and they vowed to do everything in their power to help Duncan uncover the truth.
As the meeting broke up, Duncan turned to Emel.
"I need your help," he said. "I need you to investigate the city's leaders, see if you can find any evidence of treachery."
Emel nodded, her eyes shining with determination. "I'll do it," she said. "But I'll need your help. We'll have to work together if we're going to uncover the truth."
Duncan nodded, his eyes locked on Emel's. "I'm counting on you," he said.
Together, they set to work, searching for any clue that might lead them to the traitor.
As the sun began to set, casting a golden glow over the city, Duncan and Emel met back at the central square.
"What did you find out?" Duncan asked, his eyes scanning Emel's face.
Emel shook her head. "Nothing concrete," she said. "But I did find something suspicious."
Duncan's eyes narrowed. "What is it?" he asked.
Emel hesitated, her eyes darting back and forth. "I'm not sure I should say," she said. "It's just a feeling I have."
Duncan's eyes locked on Emel's. "Tell me," he said.
Emel took a deep breath. "I think it might be Elara," she said.
Duncan's eyes widened in shock. Elara, the leader of the city's council, was one of the most respected and trusted people in the city.
"What makes you think it's her?" Duncan asked, his voice barely above a whisper.
Emel hesitated, her eyes darting back and forth. "I saw her arguing with Rectale a few days ago," she said. "And I overheard her talking to someone in hushed tones. It sounded like she was planning something."
Duncan's eyes narrowed, his mind racing with possibilities. Could it be true? Was Elara the traitor?
He knew he had to investigate further, to uncover the truth once and for all.
"I'll look into it," he said to Emel. "But in the meantime, let's keep this quiet. We don't want to alert the traitor."
Emel nodded, her eyes shining with determination. "I'll keep digging," she said. "We'll uncover the truth, Jon Ander."
Duncan nodded, his eyes locked on Emel's. "We will," he said.
