Chereads / The Calamity of Eryndor / Chapter 25 - 25. The Green Star

Chapter 25 - 25. The Green Star

King Arinn stood on the balcony of his castle, overlooking the sprawling army of 500 soldiers gathered before him. Their mission was clear: to travel to the green star and capture one of the elusive fairies that dwelled there. The king's orders were strict, and the soldiers knew that failure was not an option.

As the king's words echoed through the courtyard, the soldiers bowed their heads in unison, their faces set with determination. The holy mage, Cassius, stood at the forefront of the army, his eyes fixed on the king.

With a final nod, the army departed, their footsteps echoing through the castle grounds as they made their way to the massive ship that would carry them to the green star. The king watched them go, his eyes lingering on the backs of his soldiers as they disappeared into the distance.

"May God bless your mission," he whispered, his voice carried away by the wind.

The journey to the green star would take several days, and the soldiers were at ease on the massive ship. Some spent their time training in the barracks, honing their skills and preparing for the battles ahead. Others gathered in the mess hall, sharing stories and laughter as they dined on hearty meals.

Cassius, meanwhile, retreated to one of the luxurious rooms on the ship, seeking solitude and quiet contemplation. As he sat in stillness, a small spirit popped out of the shadows, its transparent form glowing like a soft ice ball. Cold gas swirled around it, giving it an ethereal appearance.

The spirit drifted closer to Cassius, its presence seeming to whisper secrets in his ear. Cassius's eyes narrowed, his mind focused on the king's orders.

"It's the king's order," he said, his voice low and measured. "I must capture them. I just hope they give the king the information he seeks easily. I don't want to see an innocent being getting tortured."

The spirit seemed to regard Cassius with a sad expression, its glowing form dimming slightly as it tried to convey a message. Cassius felt a pang of unease, sensing that the spirit was trying to warn him away from his mission.

But he steeled himself, his resolve firm. He had a duty to fulfill, and he would not be swayed by the spirit's attempts to dissuade him. The spirit's sadness deepened, and it tried once more to convince Cassius to abandon his quest, but the holy mage remained unmoved.

With a final, sorrowful glance, the spirit vanished into thin air, leaving Cassius to his thoughts. The holy mage's eyes lingered on the spot where the spirit had disappeared, his mind whirling with the weight of his mission.

After a few days, the army arrived at the green star, a stunning celestial body with a radiant emerald hue.

In the center of the green luscious forest, a pure white slab rose from the earth, surrounded by dark green vines that seemed to pulse with a gentle, emerald light. The slab itself was warm to the touch, radiating a soft, comforting heat that seemed to emanate from within.

Upon the slab lay a pale, beautiful, and handsome entity, his white silky hair flowing down to the ground like a river of moonlight. His face was serene, his features chiseled and refined, and his skin seemed to glow with an ethereal light. He looked peaceful, as if lost in a deep and dreamless sleep.

Two fairies, Aria and Luna, sat beside him, their delicate wings fluttering softly as they watched over the entity with gentle concern.

As the army hovered in the sky above the Green Star, the entity's eyes slowly opened, revealing orbs of deep, shimmering blue that seemed to hold galaxies within them. The fairies, Aria and Luna, exchanged nervous glances, their faces pale with worry.

"They're here," the entity said, his voice low and melodious, like the gentle hum of a harp string. "I have been expecting them."

The entity's gaze swept over the fairies " Do not be afraid, little ones," he said, his voice filled with a deep, comforting warmth.

The army awaited Cassius' instructions, he closed his eyes to sense the location of the most intense holy energy on the Green Star. After a moment, he opened his eyes and led the army forward. They flew for an hour before arriving at a dense, dark forest, where Cassius ordered them to proceed on foot.

As they marched through the forest, the soldiers were enchanted by its beauty, and the presence of low-level spirits. The atmosphere was so peaceful that the soldiers forgot their mission, their identities, and even themselves. Only Cassius remained aware, recognizing that they were under the influence of a powerful illusion spell.

Despite the spell's potency, Cassius realized that it posed no threat to the army, so he decided to continue onward. As he reached the center of the forest, he found himself alone, having left the 500 soldiers behind. There, he was shocked to see an ethereal entity, an Angel, alive, who should have been long deceased.

Kael spoke to Cassius, saying, "You have come far, but you'll have to go farther." Cassius was still too stunned to understand, his mind reeling from the impossibility of an Angel being alive. Kael then looked at the fairies, and they understood his unspoken command, bringing forth two vials of his blood. Cassius was taken aback, asking, "How did you know?"

Kael replied, "I know many things, but they're not important. My blood cannot help the king, but it can help you. You must leave now and never come back." As Kael spoke, he began to fade away, becoming transparent before vanishing into thin air. The two fairies cried out, but Kael simply smiled and disappeared.

Meanwhile, the soldiers, still under the illusion, suddenly snapped out of their trance-like state, finding themselves in space with Cassius standing before them. The Green Star had vanished, and the soldiers were confused and murmuring among themselves. Cassius gave a sudden order, "Return to the ship, Our mission here is over." He then stored the two vials of Angel's blood in his magic ring before boarding the ship to begin their journey back to the Red Star.
