I got out of bed thinking about the conversation I witnessed yesterday. The principal and that strange man were plotting on a student.
If I knew who he was I would warn him, even try to help him hide from them.
But all I know is his name is Grason.
If time permitted me to I'd have one of my guards offer him shelter. But for now I needed to focus on the funeral.
Martha may or may not have been strong enough for the principal's schemes. But if she was then I could learn exactly what their doing to the bodies of the students.
If they bury the student with the family, then for there to be empty graves after they must be excavating the remains.
The question is when are they doing this, and why are they doing this.
I looked in the mirror slightly admiring my simple yet wonderful tuxedo.
It was black with a white undershirt and a black tie. The pants were black as well as the shoes and I even put on a black hat.
I wanted to look like I was someone who was going to a funeral, because I was.
I stepped out of the house bringing only Brax with me. Much to the discomfort of Blu since he and Sanemi wanted to get in the field today. But they hated being separated and I didn't want to bring two people, three is a crowd.
When we arrived at the funeral it wasn't much. Just a small building with about 7 cars outside. There were a couple more cars around the back with the hearse.
We walked up to the door and went right inside the building. There wasn't any kind of security considering it was a funeral. Plenty of family would be here to see Martha one last time.
"Hey welcome! I'm so sorry for your lost and we want you to know we are doing EVERYTHING, to find out why this happened." A teacher said walking towards me and Brax.
I had never seen this teacher before either. But that was good because that meant they wouldn't recognize me.
"We appreciate those kind words but, do you have any information as of now? Anything that can help us, come to terms with Martha's untimely passing?" I looked at him wondering how he would respond.
It was obvious I was probing for information, but they think im her family. Shouldn't the family know what happened to their loved one?
"As of now, all we know is she was found with multiple lacerations, and she had a strange cut along the outside of her neck. Almost as if someone snuck up and slit her throat. Now.."
"Woah woah, hold on now. If her throat was slit why does she have lacerations? That don't make no sense right there. Wouldn't she have died from her throat being slit open?" I pressed upon him for information, already we had one slip up. Technically I knew the truth. But I only knew part of it, I was missing pieces of this puzzle.
"Kamelio! I didn't know you were related to Martha. What a pleasant surprise." Another teacher came towards us quickly, taking over the conversation.
"You know how it is, extended family and all." I replied plainly. "Well we're gonna go find seats."
I speedily left with Brax following closely behind.
"Kamelio what was that back there? I've never seen you act that way before." Brax was looking at me as if he was worried. But I wouldn't mess this mission up.
"Acting." I responded without looking at him. I'm sure those two are still watching us so we must look the part. Unbeknownst to Brax, him being concerned is perfect for this scenario.
"Acting as if I'm a family member or friend who is upset about her passing. It will make them try to stay on our good side and we'll avoid suspicion even if we do something suspicious." I kept walking as I waited for his response. Even though I noticed he stopped, I had to continue walking. We had to make this look good. I couldn't explain it to Brax beforehand, he was honest by nature and he would be unable to make this believable.
However, now that we had gotten this far it would be fine. They should stay out of our way now.
"Wait but why?" Brax asked as he jogged to catch up.
"Hey! No running!! This is a funeral dammit!!!" One of the staff said giving Brax one hell of an evil eye.
"Sorry." Brax stated before walking towards me. I stopped moving so he could catch up. "Explain boss, I don't wanna mess this up."
I smiled knowing that Brax finally understood the mission. Now I needed to explain why I did what I did so he would be prepared for whats to come.
"I mean like getting caught in a area of the building we aren't supposed to be in. Which will be a possibility later when we're watching to see what they're doing with the bodies. If it looks like i'm gonna investigate they're actions they'll try to kill me. So lets try to avoid that." We found our seats and sat down waiting for the funeral to get started.
We fit right in because of my actions with the teacher. Nobody questioned our place in the funeral. In fact a few of them encouraged us to continue pressuring the teachers for information.
After some time the principal stepped up and began to officiate the funeral.
"Now we have come here to lay a member of this school to rest. A beloved young lady, who lost her life at 19 years old. Martha was a great student, and she was a quick learner. She will be missed," the principal stepped down and they let the family speak on memories they had with Martha.
However while this was happening I stopped paying attention to the family.
I was looking at the family as they spoke about Martha, but using my peripheral vision I watched the principal closely.
I figured Warren wouldn't be dumb enough to move the body with them in the room right?
But none of the gravesites showed signs of being previously excavated except the one that brought upon suspicion in the first place. Not to mention grave robbers excavated that one. So it must be something the principal is doing before the body gets to the ground.
"All right everyone! It's time to bury the body, would the paul bearers please come forward." The principal was standing right next to the casket. I could still see Martha's face as she lay inside.
It looked like she was sleeping, but I knew she was already gone.
"Alright! Close the casket!!" Warren stated raising his hand.
"What? But we requested an open casket funeral!!!" Someone in the crowd yelled angrily.
"We have done an open casket funeral, we are about to bury miss Martha, your loved one, yet my student. The casket has to be closed for us to put her in the ground legally. If you need more time with her, you're gonna have to take that up with God. I can help you get a meeting with him if you want." Warren looked at the man who spoke out. Scary enough he was smiling.
"I understand." The man said sitting back down.
The paulbearers began closing the casket as Warren brought his hand down.
As I watched him I noticed he was still smiling. Something wasn't right, I walked up to the casket amid all the paulbearers.
"Open it, one last time." I said trying to sound as convincing as possible. This principal didn't know me, his father did. So he shouldn't recognize me at all.
"No, we are progressing with this funeral. We're on a very tight schedule, so I won't reopen this casket for anyone. Not even you Kamelio." Warren smiled at me, a smile as if he was victorious.
I was trying not to panick. How the fuck does he know my name??
I saw him give someone a signal. Moments later a tall burly man walked right up to me placing his hand on my shoulder.
"You gonna cause trouble? Or can we proceed?" He asked me in a calm tone, like it was just another day at the office. I guess for him it was.
"Nah i'm good." I moved the man's hand and walked out hoping to leave before anything jumps off.
The burly man followed me to the door, after that he simply watched in silence as I drove away.
