Zoe was busy at the office when she remembered their wedding anniversary. She glanced at her wrist watch.
"Twenty minutes more before closing time. But there's still a few more reports to be cleared and signed by the manager," she mumbled to herself.
Zoe has been married to Stanley Martins for the past 3 years without a child.
Zoe hoped to be pregnant soon; to have a child who she could call her own—a child that will bring happiness to their home.
Stanley hasn't been a supporting husband to Zeo. He has no plans for the future or for their marriage. All he does is sit at home, eat, watch soccer games and at times, go clubbing, while Zoe works her ass off at work to provide for their family.
Stanley would always yell at Zoe when she talked to him about getting a job and supporting their family instead of being a deadbeat husband.
Zoe doesn't care how awful she has been treated by her husband. She always kept her head up right and hoped everything would be alright soon enough. She believed if she could give her husband a child, he would change to a better man.
"Finally! I'm done clearing these reports." Zeo stared at the reports as she made her way to the manager's office.
"Oh Zoe! You came in at the right time. I was about to leave for home." The manager stared at Zoe as she worked in.
"Good evening sir, here are the reports. It needs your signature on it, sir."
"Alright, I will sign it and send it directly to the CEO, thank you!"
"Alright, Goodnight sir!"
Zoe worked as a secretary in an enterprise company in Wimland.
She had lived in this bustling city for the past six years, and it was a far cry from the small rural town she came from.
She and Stanley once shared a vision: a cozy food shop in the heart of Wimland, where they'd serve their best recipes and build something lasting. But that dream faded, little by little, as Stanley sank deeper into the couch, his promises of "tomorrow" stretching into weeks, then months.
Three years had slipped by, and the food shop was nothing more than a faded conversation, buried beneath her long hours and his silence.
Although her marriage hasn't been easy. Zoe never allowed that to distract her from doing her job. She remained professional.
After coming back into her office, Zoe reached out for her phone to put a call through to her husband. But Stanley didn't answer.
"Hmm, what could Stanley be up to?" Zoe wondered. Stanley hadn't reached out to Zoe ever since she left home for work, or sent her flowers wishing her a wedding anniversary.
Zoe sighed. Before tossing her phone into her handbag. She hurriedly picked her working hand bag and left the office. It was closing hours. Zoe bid farewell to her other colleagues.
Zoe became anxious as she walked down to the bus station.
"Did Stanley reluctantly refuse to pick up the phone?" Zeo muttered.
Zoe tried to call her husband one more time but got no answer from him.
Sighing, she tossed her phone into her bag. Downtown Wimland was an exciting place, but Zoe could only look tiredly out of the window.
Zoe glanced through the window as she kept wondering why her husband wouldn't pick her call. "Today is our wedding anniversary. He could have called me to know my plans about it." She bitterly said to herself.
She knew a hardworking woman like her should have never let herself be married to a deadbeat husband like Stanley.
But there's a reason for everything, and the reason for her to stay was…her love for Stanley.
She has been in love with Stanley even before they got married. Stanley noticed her love for him was extremely high, so he decided to take her for granted. Despite her being barren, it made Stanley selfish and useless.
So, everything she did to support him right now was an effort to compensate for her inability to conceive.
That, and…
"I guess I'm afraid of losing him," Zoe thought sadly to herself. "I might find a good man and everything will change for the better," She mumbled.
Zoe got to her destination and eagerly made her way to their apartment. "Stanley might be laying down on the couch, just scrolling through tiktok while he refuses to pick my call." Zoe muttered
Everywhere was calm and quiet. Zoe heard a muffled moan coming from her apartment as she moved closer to it.
She unlocked the door without any expectations.
When she swung open the door, the moans became louder this time, coming directly from their bedroom.
Stanley was not on the couch.
Zoe quietly took her heels shoes off and made her way into their room. The door was wide open.
Zoe's eyes almost jumped out from its sockets. She nearly fainted but she managed to maintain her balance.
Her husband was on the bed, but he was not alone.
Stanley was laying on the bed naked, a woman was holding him so tight like she would never let go of him in no time, while he grinds himself against her with her bra thrown away in the heat of the moment.
They both moaned in pleasure as he said loudly. "You are sweeter than your sister Zoe. Too sweet," they were both in pure bliss that they didn't realize that Zoe had already walked in and witnessed everything.
Stanley finally looked up after sensing that they were no longer alone. He stared at Zoe as if she was some kind of ghost. "Oh fuck, I didn't know that you'd be home already."
Zoe staggered as she clutched her chest in pain, unable to believe what was happening before her.
They didn't even bother to feel embarrassed of what they were doing, which only fueled Zoe's anger.
Zoe went to Jenna, pulled her hair and hit her head against the couch beside the bed. But Zoe cared less for her sister.
