Chapter 13
Third POV
A normal person would say 'dreams are the collection of wishes and desires brought to life through our mind, creating them as a way to fulfill them, since life is too cruel to actually have those wishes come through.' But is it true?
Do we wish to be able to die in the ocean?
Or are we simply playing with ourselves?
Just maybe, it's exactly what we want. But who has the right answer to it?
Because a person can never truly know what they desire. Human beings have wants and needs, which is pretty normal desires for the race, but needs are considered more important that wants, considering how needs are based on things that give us a higher chance of survival, like food, water, and shelter. The three big ways of survival, I like to call them.
On the other hand, wants, in the terms of economics, will be explained as the goods or services that are desired or needed. According to economics, wants are unlimited but acquiring them is limited, the rest is self-explanatory. Wants are basically items like electronic devices and cars, which are things that we can live without, as wants simply make our lives a lot better.
And sometimes, we think about the things we don't have and end up imagining them in our dreams, which shows that our thought process and desires manifest in certain dreams that we wished could happen in reality, but we aren't that lucky.
Beth closed the book quickly, after trying to read a chapter, since Emma was currently sleeping. So, she used this opportunity to see why Emma was practically in love with it and, despite reading it, she didn't know. She came to a conclusion that she wasn't philosophical like Emma, nor could sit for hours without doing anything, which was why she was the sport-interested sibling.
'Such a dark book.' Beth cringed from remembering the first sentences of the book and decided to remove her focus from the grim book. It made her understand Emma's personality a bit, carefully placing the book right next to Emma's pillow, where she found it in the first place. She didn't want Emma to start a tantrum after she woke up, she was still injured, and it would reduce her recovery rate if she tried to mess with her. She left the room and headed over to the bathroom, as she needed a bathe.
A few minutes later, she left the bathroom, water dripping from her wet black hair, the rest of her body was dry after using her towel to clean herself and wearing a bathrobe. She dried her hair with the towel and sitting down, before dressing up in a green shirt with black stripes over it and a blue jean overall dress to complete the look. Beth was currently looking over Emma, who seemed to be turning in her sleep. 'Maybe, she is having a bad dream.' She thought to herself, as Emma eventually stopped moving, her face showing nothing but fear, it started to worry the black-haired girl a lot.
Emma opened her eyes, breathing heavily. Beth stood up from her seat and rubbed her back softly, hoping it would calm her down, even for just a few seconds. She was used to this happening to her younger sister for as long as she could remember, but this time seemed to be a bit worse than the other times. "Bad dream?" Beth couldn't help but ask. "I don't know, probably? I don't remember the dream." Emma replied, before she stopped moving her left shoulder, as it seemed to be hurting her a lot and she slowly removed it. A huge bite mark was there, it looked fresh, which made Beth stand up and rush to the cupboard to grab the first aid kit.
"How did this even happen?" Beth mumbled to herself, grabbing the disinfectant spray and applying it to her shoulder. Emma shrieked in pain, giving a glare to Beth. "Endure it now or suffer from it later in life. You don't want an infection that could lead to you becoming paralyzed for life, would you?" Beth told her, which made her glare even harder at her, but she didn't reply, since the last time she tried to hide a wound. She ended up stuck in the hospital for two weeks, yet she had no memory of where she got the wound from.
'Strange,' Beth thought. Normally she would have teased Emma for hurting herself and not decide to tell her or their mother. It made no sense, even the bite mark didn't look like it resembled any animal around, it was too wide and deep for any animal to make, if she excluded that there were a lot of wild animals in Lock City, but they rarely attacked unless provoked. Not to mention, the wound seemed to be healing on its own or someone was treating it, since the blood seemed to be drying off quickly. She glanced at Emma, who was still holding her screams of pain and thought that Beth was stitching the wound, as that was exactly what it felt like.
"Are you done yet?" Emma asked her, feeling the bite mark being pressed on with clothes and stitches, bringing the broken skin back together. She looked at the wound, surprised to find out that it was healed up already. "Thanks, Beth." She mumbled, standing up from her bed, not noticing that Beth was still holding the disinfectant spray and hadn't brought out anything from the first aid kit, the black haired girl could only look at her younger sister, who excused herself and entered the bathroom and grabbed some clean clothes to wear, as the one she was currently wearing was stained with blood.
'That isn't normal.' She thought to herself, before looking near Emma's bed, she checked the window, and it was closed tightly. It didn't make sense, but Emma would clearly not believe her, so she was stuck in a dilemma, one that clearly can't be solved through scientific methods.
