Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: Encounter

I walked quietly towards the commotion, my fingers wrapped tightly around the replica dagger of a famous murderer.

When I made it to the turn I leaned against the wall and peaked inside, looking at how the situation was going.

There was a crater on the side of a wall, as if someone was slammed into it.

Broken glass was scattered across the floor, pieces of arrows were splintered onto various objects. Black blood coated the floor but swiftly evaporated.

There were four 'people', Kim Suho: looking rough but pushing back, Chase Nayun: A wolf hand stuck to her neck (poisoned?), The man in a trench coat: Wolf arms made of jet black mana, and Kim Hajin: Peeking out from behind a corner just like me.

I rubbed my neck when I remembered the vision.

The inky black teeth ripping into my flesh, the sand of my adams apple pooling in my throat, sinew and tendons ripping as flesh gave way, sticky warm liquid dripping onto my clothes.

A djinn's power… it all felt real… it all hurt…

Should I leave them? I've done my part, haven't I?

Wait, there's more, a few stragglers.

Just as I noticed them, Kim Hajin jumped out.

"Hey!" He raised his gun at the djinn.

"Move!"

Without missing a beat, Kim Suho rolled to the side. The djinn human's right arm chased after him but I stepped over and thrust my sword through it, pinning it to the floor.

The bullet fired as the gun in Kim Hajin's hand shattered like glass.

A burst of white light enveloped the arm and scorched my hands. Skin burnt as bright light blinded my eyes.

!

I threw myself out of the way and looked away from the arm disintegrating at the flashbang level light.

I pulled myself together, grabbing the poisoned Nayun and kicking her away from the battle.

"Keuk!"

She let out a painful sound as I made my own way to the edge of the battle, allowing Kim Suho to finish it off.

Wait, the stragglers!

I looked over to where I saw them before, only to let out a sigh of relief to find them gone.

Shortly after that, Kim Suho managed to win.

Naturally I went to check on the civilians.

…Kim Hajin POV…

I looked at the man who pinned down the djinn's arm. He was tall, slim, and held a dagger. His face betrayed no emotion but the dark rings under his eyes spoke volumes.

But more importantly, I don't know him. He looked familiar but not to the point of recognition.

I, the author of this world, did not write this character. So was he an extra?

No, definitely not.

"Oh, it's the gun guy."

His voice was plain and empty as if he never meant anything he said, but the look in his eye said otherwise.

So who was he? I decided to find out.

"Hey, uh, thanks for pinning his arm down for me." I initiated the conversation near the exit, my mind moving on from the stiff, almost horrified faces of Kim Suho and Chae Nayun.

The boy nodded

"I had a feeling you were going to do something, so I just gave you an assist. But what was with that bullet?" He narrowed his eyes in suspicion.

"It's my gift." I answered without missing a beat, feeling the pressure of interrogation.

"Are you… enlightened?" He lowered his voice.

I simply nodded.

"Keep it a secret, please."

"I understand. I'm Minori by the way. Minori Nii."

The moment he said his name my eyes widened to saucers, I passed him to hide it.

"I'm Kim Hajin." I walked away with quickened steps.

The Djinn from my setting is stronger,

Kim Suho and Chae Nayun were mortified when I mentioned her oppa.

And now one of my scrapped characters is a part of the equation.

Just what the hell does the co-author think they're doing?

Soon after the gunner left Minori finished checking if anyone was injured, having them leave the museum first now that everything was over.

Can't have regular people getting poisoned by the remnant dark mana.

"Nayun!" A vehement voice rang from the entrance. Minori flinched and turned his head.

There was a middle-aged man looking around the museum with reddened eyes. Then there was a woman holding two swords in a business suit.

"Chae Shinhyuk-ssi?" The woman looked surprised.

"...Vice-Leader Yun Seung-Ah?"

"Ah… You must be busy lately. It's been a while. Should we go together?"

Before they could saunter off, Minori made eye contact with Yun Seung-Ah.

"You are a cadet…?"

"...I'll, uhh, bring the civilians out. They aren't hurt." Minori gave a lackluster response.

"That's good but are you hurt?" Minori shook his head at Yun Seung-Ah's concern, leaving an awkward silence.

"Oh, Chase Nayun is poisoned so you should go take them-"

"What?! Nayun!" The man yelled before running off deeper into the museum.

Yun Seung-Ah nodded politely and ran after the man.

Are all pro's like this?

Seoul's sky was dyed an orange hue sitting at the portal gate Minori stared blankly at what was in front of him.

He didn't worry about looking strange as there was no one here, not even the portal operator. Either everyone had left or they were still in the city.

All things considered it wasn't too bad for Minori as it gave him some time to reflect on today's battle, Kim Hajin's revelation and this… panel.

"...Enlightenment." Minori murmured as he looked at the panel.

I'll keep it a secret for now.

He leaned back on the station bench and closed his eyes, mulling over the contents of the panel he could still see despite closing his eyes.

Let's start from the top… Variable and Invariable Stats.

Judging from how they're listed, it seems Invariable stats are fixed. You'd think intelligence could be increased but maybe it just means your capacity to absorb knowledge…

Some of my stats have little add-ons. Does this mean they are affected by other variables like my gifts or physique?

My luck is null… is that bad or good? If I have no luck, won't something bad happen to me? Or… is it because of my gift again. Seeing into the future is pretty luck negating I suppose… no it isn't. Then why? Some other interference? From who, god?

Minor thought that as a joke but… who else would be able to interfere?

Now onto my gift, 「The Prophet and The Beast」. Honestly, it's a little worrying. I mean seeing the future and all, I thought my instincts were just good but apparently I was feeling a pleasant future and my instincts were guiding me to do it. The Prophet whispered and The Beast presented.

Now that I know about my gift I should be able to use it better. The wording on the description is a little troublesome too.

Minori remembered his recurring dreams of Flames, Towers and Blood. It sent a shiver down his spine when he thought it could possibly be a potential future.

'Do not worry, you are still human.', Do not worry my ass! The hell do you mean 'still', still, am I going to become inhuman?!

Minori sighed and looked at his arts.

So I'm locked into this martial art now…? Wait, how do I know I'm locked in? Is this my prophetic instinct coming back? This is pretty useful.

Physiques… Blood poison… is this why my insomnia medicine doesn't work?! Overburn??? That's why I got sick after fighting some thugs!

Also what's this? Intoxicated after drinking blood? Does that mean I can get addicted to blood???

Minori shifted uncomfortably as he sighed in exasperation, opening his eyes and blinking the panel away.

Just then someone came out of the Portal Gate, Kim Soohyuk.

I met his gaze head on and nodded.

"I've heard the story already, we'll wait for the other two before heading back. We'll ask for details later." He spoke clearly.

"Alright." I used formal speech before leaning back again

Soon people began showing up and once everyone arrived and a head count was made we were allowed to head back.
