Chapter 7 - Chapter 7

"Entering a lady's room without knocking whatsoever," Amelia scoffed. "Your parents really didn't teach you well."

Ace's face turned slightly red with embarrassment, but he quickly composed himself. "Don't try to change the subject, Amelia."

"No subject was being discussed with you in the first place. Now, if you would kindly carry your Lilac and get out of my room."

"Don't be so arrogant," Ace bit his lip as he spoke angrily.

"You're the one acting arrogant, Ace, having the audacity to enter my room however you like," Amelia retorted coldly.

"You are my fiancée. I have the right to do that."

"It's quite disappointing to have a disgrace of a fiancé like you. Let's put an end to our engagement."

"What?!" Ace and Lilac exclaimed in shock.

---

Amelia looked at the glass door before her and sighed.

After the confrontation with Lilac and Ace, a maid had called her, saying that Amelia's father needed to see her.

She had been surprised , she hadn't even known when he'd gotten home. Well, it ought not to be a surprise, though, as the original Amelia was barely included in anything that happened in the house. She was an outsider in her own home.

Amelia knocked twice and heard a very harsh, "Come in."

She opened the door and entered the room—or rather, the office. The office was quite large, with several rows of shelves filled with files and documents. In the middle of the office was a large table, cluttered with scattered papers. Seated behind it was a man whose black hair was already streaked with grey. His face was lined with wrinkles, evidence of his aging. He looked up as she entered and pushed up the glasses resting on his nose. A frown tugged at his lips, and there was a hint of disgust in his eyes. This was Amelia's father, Mason Cosgrove.

"Lilac came to me crying that you broke off your engagement just because you had a little confrontation with her. Who gave you the right to make such a decision?" Mason Cosgrove questioned roughly.

"It was not just a small—"

"What the hell is wrong with you?" he interrupted, not even giving Amelia a chance to speak. "Thinking you can just announce something like that!"

"I only did it for our family's name, he—" Amelia answered curtly, but was once again interrupted.

Mason Cosgrove sneered. "For our family's name? When have you ever cared about our family's name? If you truly cared, you wouldn't act like the rascal you are."

Amelia was pissed. She had been interrupted constantly without even a chance to speak. Is that what she put up with? Well, even if she did, it was not something she, Amelia Volemont, could put up with.

Amelia's lips curled up into a faint smile.

"Well, I wouldn't have become a rascal if you had properly trained me like a father ought to, instead of spending your time hopping around and sleeping with whatever puts on a skirt like a horny dog."

Mason's face twisted in rage, and without thinking, he picked up the glass flower lamp beside him and threw it at Amelia.

The lamp hit the wall, barely missing her, and shattered into pieces.

"Get out!" he screamed. "Get out of here now! You will marry Ace, and that is final!"

Amelia coldly looked at him, scoffing, then left the room.

Mason found himself flinching a bit. Why did he feel like he had just been looked down upon? Besides, it was strange. Normally, Amelia would have retorted and even made sure she crashed some things in the room before leaving, but it wasn't so this time. Rather, there seemed to be a regal air all around her.

---

Amelia sprawled across the bed, her blonde hair scattered over the sheets.

The original Amelia really was too pitiful. It was pretty reasonable that her character had grown to be the way it was. Yet, despite the glaring signs she was unwanted, she had still been desperate for her family's love and attention.

Amelia gently touched her cheek, tracing the cut that had already begun to form beads of blood.

Truly pitiful.

Her phone vibrated beside her. She picked it up and saw the name Selene flashing on the screen.

This was one of the friends Amelia had made after she had gone 'wild.' They weren't the best influences, but at least Amelia had felt happy with them.

"Amelia! Where have you been?" Selene's voice came through with a mix of concern and excitement. "We've been trying to reach you for days now. You just disappeared without a word. What's going on?"

Amelia's brow furrowed slightly, unsure of what to say.

"I've been... busy."

"Busy?" Selene laughed. "Busy with what, exactly? It feels like you've been avoiding us like the plague! Everyone's asking where you've been. Come on, it's time for some fun. We're meeting at the bar tonight. You have to come. We miss you, Amelie. It's been too long."

Amelia was silent for a moment. They missed her, not because they truly cared about her, but because of the money she would splurge on them. But she needed some peace from this family. Besides, looking at the memories of the original Amelia, she was a bit excited to go. It did seem that the bar she usually frequented was quite fun.

"I'll think about it," she replied. "But I might show up."

"You better!" Selene teased. "Don't keep us waiting. We'll be at the usual spot."

"I'll be there."
