I decide to go back home and tell my parents about my future plans.
In the living room, I carefully reported the situation to my parents. They are very surprised.
"What? Are you going to Earth? Lina, are you sane?"
My mother widen her eyes and looks at me in disbelief.
"Kicked out of headquarters and going to a distant planet? What's going on?"
My father just worriedly asked me.
"You know, I told you about it some time ago. I have a memory of a past life. I really want to go to Earth."
"…. Eh, Isn't that a joke?"
My mother apparently thought my confession was a joke.
"That's the truth. I used to live in a country called Japan on Earth. I was a man back then, and I died when I still young."
"…. not a lie. I guess not."
My father is a medical doctor and he can discern a person's lies through magic. I guess he could tell right away that I'm only telling the truth.
"I want to go back to my old birthplace someday. If my father and mother from my previous life are still alive, I want to meet them and apologize to them."
I mumbled, squeezing out the words as I looked down.
My mother was silent for a bit, then nodded.
"… Okay. If that's the reason, it's okay. You should go. And see your previous mother and father."
"Hmm. I'm sure your previous parents will be glad…. If I were them, I'd be in tears. So I'm not going to stop you. But be careful, okay?"
"Un. Thanks, Mom. Dad."
I decided to spend the rest of the time until the day of my departure with my parents.
Headquarters seemed to have made some arrangements for my jobs.
From that day on, all communications from Earth were sent to my magic device through headquarters.
Magical transmissions come in every two hours.
Well, it was just a lot of strange noise.
Messages comes periodically from the US government in various forms, including English and Morse code.
Perhaps anticipating the other side would not be able to understand their language, they send a signal that it could be easily analyzed.
How to handle this is entirely up to me. Up to me to reply or not.
But we're dealing with, what do you call it, the United States. More than 300 million people are being represented.
The responsibility is great.
I first analyze the messages with my device, translate it, and read the text.
The contents are roughly as follows.
"Dear people of a distant planet. We are the government of the United States of America, the representative of Earth planet. We are ready to communicate with you. We would love to have a reply. We will respect your opinion as much as possible."
I get the feeling that they' re trying to be relatively low key and talk in a friendly manner.
However, it is typical of the U.S that it does not forget to appeal that they are the leader of the planet.
Now, I must first respond to this and take the first step in negotiations.
This is the beginning of my job.
It's in English, so I think it's better to use Dear at first.
While worrying about this, I started to write the message.
"Dear Earth. My name is Lina Marderita. I have been assigned to conduct negotiations between Earth and Maldea. The upper echelons of Maldea don't want to interact with Earth, but they don't have a problem if I'm the only one interacting with Earth. I will go to Earth, and I hope you will accept me. I'll bring something that the people of Earth will enjoy, so please help me."
It was a very one-sided and domineering reply, but I felt I had to write down the facts.
The destination of this message is, of course, the United States.
Personally, I wanted to contact Japan, where my homeland is located, but it was the United States that discovered the Maldea on the Earth side.
The other countries had not even discovered Maldea yet, or they were not trying to communicate with us at all.
Then I guess I should communicate with the US first.
I sent it using magical transmission and wait, two hours later I received a reply from Earth.
"Dear Lina Marderita. We, the people of Earth, wish to welcome you. We need to know when, where, and how you're coming. We'll have someone meet you in the United States. We would like to hold a welcome party and discuss the future of Earth and Maldea, and trade. If possible, we would also like to hold a press conference for the media. We would like to discuss the schedule and we would appreciate your response."
That's what it said. The message I sent was a bit offensive for them, but the message from other side quite favorable.
Well, I guess they are somewhat aware of the difference in the level of civilization.
I can go to Earth in an instant. But they couldn't come to Maldea.
That alone clearly shows the difference in technology.
The U.S. may not be able to demand forcefully against an unknown opponent who possesses unknown technology.
The other side looks like it will do its best to meet our requirements.
I wonder if the current president of the United States is watching directly at this exchange.
From their perspective, it's the first interaction with extraterrestrial intelligence, or aliens.
I guess this communication is like a historical moment over there.
I look up to the sky, as I imagine the current state of NASA or government headquarters in the United States.
"We just received a reply from other planet!"
"Really? So, did we get the message or the signal across?"
"Yes! They seem to understand English over there, and they replied in English!"
"They've analyzed our English language? I guess they're one or two step ahead of us in terms of civilization….."
"The name of the planet is Maldea," she said. I would say that this is another great discovery."
"How do we announce this to the media?"
"Keep it under cover. Don't tell the rest of the world yet that the transmission was successful."
It's like that.
Maybe it will become a Hollywood movie later on.
This is really bad…
Over here at my parents' house, there's a 15-year-old girl typing message on her little device.
There's no tension, right? I'm afraid I might make a typo.
It's embarrassing to have a typo in a historical moment. This exchanges going to be made into a movie.
Even though I'm thinking about such a stupid thing, I regained my composure and continued to communicate.
During the process, my mother took my device and told the US government, "I'm Lina's mother. If you hurt my daughter, I won't forgive you!" She sent it to them.
I wonder what kind of expression the president has on his face when he read that…
… I can't imagine it. Two hours later, the reply came.
"Dear Mother of Marderita. We can assure you that your daughter will not be harmed. We will have the full force of the United States at your disposal for security."
Thanks to that, it seems it's going to be a painfully hot welcome party.
Oh, that's right. It's embarrassing if I don't master English language too.
Since then, I've been busy studying and worrying about my upcoming trip to the United States.
Finally, the day of departure arrived.
