"This is the twentieth one this week," the police officer said, his voice grim as he surveyed the scene where the bodies of two dead individuals had been found. The bodies were discovered in a narrow alley, and upon closer examination, it appeared that someone had drained all the blood from their bodies. Their skin was pale as snow, with no trace of blood left behind.
"This is getting out of hand. First, it was minor criminals, and now it's major ones. What do you think? Do we have another Punisher on our hands? Because this doesn't look like the work of Daredevil or Spider-Man—neither of them has a thing for blood," the officer muttered to his partner.
Before his partner could respond, his eyes widened as he looked past him. A white Lamborghini had pulled up, and a man stepped out, dressed in an immaculate white suit. At first glance, the man seemed ordinary, but there was something about him—he almost seemed to reflect the light around him. The most striking feature was the white mask he wore, adorned with a crescent moon symbol that covered his face.
The man walked slowly toward the crime scene, exuding an air of calm authority. The police officers moved to stop him, but he reached into his coat and pulled out a business card, halting them in their tracks.
"Hello, gentlemen. My name is Mr. Knight, and I've been requested to examine this scene by the families of the deceased," the man said, his voice smooth and confident. There was no fear or hesitation in his tone, as if he were entirely accustomed to such situations.
Mr. Knight handed the business card to one of the officers and continued walking toward the bodies, which were being prepared for transport to the forensics department.
"Was there any symbol found?" Mr. Knight asked as he examined the bodies of the victims.
"Yes, there was a symbol—a bird, which we presume to be a raven, with a sword going through its head," the policeman replied.
"That's all I need," Mr. Knight muttered as he moved toward his car.
As the car drove away, a figure could be seen standing atop a nearby building. He tilted his head slightly, his expression unreadable, before speaking in a chillingly calm tone.
"Of all the people I could ask for, why did it have to be him? This mission better have a good reward after completing it, or I'm going to lose it," he murmured. Extending his arms, he leaped off the building, plummeting toward the street below. But just before he hit the ground, he vanished like a shadow dissipating in the light—without a sound or trace, as if he had never existed.
I calmly made my way into my room, locking the door behind me. Dropping onto the sofa, I checked my progress on the missions I had been working on these past few days. The nights had been busy—filled with relentless activities and the completion of one task after another.
The new ability I gained from upgrading from F-tier to E-tier was incredible, but it came with its own set of challenges. The process itself was excruciating, as if my soul was screaming in pain and every cell in my body was being destroyed and rebuilt. Just thinking about it made my head hurt. But the benefits were undeniable.
I gained a new ability called [Shadow Jump], which, as the name suggests, allows me to teleport to any shadow within a 10-kilometer radius. The drawback, however, is that the shadow must be within that range. Additionally, all my stats jumped from 20 to 30, and one of my weaknesses was removed—only to be replaced by another. My joy quickly turned to devastation when I realized the weakness removed wasn't sunlight but garlic. Now, I'm vulnerable to wooden stakes of all things. Great.
Shaking my head, I opened the mission screen to check my progress.
With each mission I finished, the next one only grew harder. Right now, I was juggling three missions simultaneously.
The first was called [Getting Assets]—a simple yet difficult task. To complete it, I needed to earn money. According to the system, no vampire can truly call himself a vampire if he is poor. Just thinking about it made my brain hurt. Are there even poor vampires? They must exist, right? Regardless, the mission required me to a mass 5 million $ but Yeah, it was a small sum compared to the goal, but I had a plan. It was time to go big or go home.
The second mission was [Reputation Matters to Vampires]—an easier task but one that risked drawing attention from smaller heroes. A vampire without a reputation is a vampire without fear and respect. That's why I'd started leaving behind symbols, so people would either fear or respect me. I hadn't settled on a name for myself yet, torn between "Crow" or "Corvus." Both sounded cool to me. I spread my hands on the bed, deciding I'd choose one when the time was right.
Finally, there was the last mission—[Legacy of a Vampire]. A vampire without an artifact is a vampire without status. That's what the system called it. Sometimes, I felt like the system was mocking me. What do you mean, legacy? I'm not even 20 years old, and you want me to build a legacy? I clenched my fist, knowing this mission would be the longest. I had to acquire five artifacts from the Marvel world, and that wasn't going to be easy.
Tomorrow is going to be a busy day. I as will be securing that $5 million, I thought, my mind drifting as I slowly dozed off to sleep.
