When Jaxon approached the group of demonic rabbits to within about two meters again, the two rabbits closest to him lunged at him once more, the dark aura in their eyes seeming to grow even more intense.
Jaxon instinctively took two steps back, but thinking of the village chief's earlier contempt, he forced himself to calm down. He stared intently at the two rabbits, and as they reached him, he swung his wooden stick with all his might, sending one of the rabbits flying.
However, before Jaxon could feel any relief, the other rabbit had already pounced on him. Its sharp claws raked across his body, tearing through his clothes and leaving three distinct scratches on his arm.
"Damn it! That hurts!" Jaxon's face turned pale. He had no idea how much it hurt to be scratched by ordinary rabbits, but these demonic rabbits definitely caused real pain.
"Trying again? Do you think I'm an easy target?" The rabbit that had just scratched Jaxon lunged at him once more, and Jaxon's temper flared. Could he really not defeat a rabbit?
As the rabbit pounced, Jaxon swung his stick again with a loud "bang," hitting the rabbit squarely on its forehead. The rabbit flew backward like a baseball, struggled on the ground for a few moments, and then lay still.
Jaxon had just let out a sigh of relief when he widened his eyes in disbelief. The rabbit that he had just hit had vanished into thin air within seconds!
This was getting really strange.
Jaxon rubbed his eyes vigorously, but the rabbit was still gone, as if it had never existed in the first place.
"Am I dreaming all of this?" Jaxon muttered to himself, rubbing his eyes again.
At that moment, the mechanical voice that had startled him several times before sounded again.
"Level up."
"Character attribute panel activated."
"Inventory system activated."
A series of voices left Jaxon stunned on the spot.
It was then that Jaxon suddenly realized he seemed to be in a game. He hadn't thought of it before because everything felt too real to be a game. But now, with missions, "monsters," levels, attribute panels, and all these other elements, it was just too similar to a game.
"Could it be that the so-called god sent me to a game world?" Jaxon thought to himself.
After a bit of fumbling, Jaxon summoned his character attribute panel, which appeared before his eyes like a projection.
Name: Jaxon
Level: 1
Class: None
Strength: 1
Agility: 1
Intelligence: 1
Constitution: 1
Health: 100
Mana: 100
Equipment: Worn-out wooden stick: Attack 1
Jaxon's attributes were extremely basic, the standard attributes for a new player, which further confirmed that he was indeed in a game world.
As for the inventory, it was even simpler, with a total of ten slots, all of which were currently empty.
While Jaxon was checking his attributes, the rabbit he had first hit and sent flying was staggering back towards him. Even though its movements were unsteady, the malevolent aura in its eyes remained undiminished.
Now aware that he was in a game world and that these rabbits were just monsters, Jaxon didn't hesitate. When the rabbit reached him, he struck it again with his worn-out wooden stick. This time, the rabbit lay on the ground and didn't get back up, its life force completely extinguished.
The rabbit's corpse disappeared just like the previous one, leaving no trace.
Having killed two rabbits, Jaxon gained some experience from the kills. Since the mission required him to kill ten rabbits, he still had more work to do.
The rabbits would attack on their own, but there was a safe distance of about two meters. They would only attack if he got within that range, which allowed Jaxon to take them out one by one without being surrounded. After all, even regular rabbits bite when cornered, let alone these aggressive demonic rabbits. Getting hit by them was quite painful.
"Haha, you were so fierce just now. Come at me again," Jaxon taunted, feeling confident with his wooden stick in hand. The large group of rabbits was quickly dispatched, and he had overachieved the village chief's mission.
His level also increased from one to two, with all his attributes rising to 2, and his health increased to 110.
"This level-up gives too little attribute increase," Jaxon complained as he walked back towards the village. "And the leveling speed is way too slow. I killed so many rabbits and only went up one level. In other games, you can level up by 999 just by killing one monster. What a lousy game this is."
"Village chief, I'm back!" Upon entering the village and seeing the village chief, Jaxon greeted him enthusiastically. He had completed the mission and was hoping for a generous reward from the old man.
"Oh, it's you?" The village chief didn't seem very excited to see Jaxon, unlike the first time they met. "Why are you back again? Were you driven back by those rabbits? Young people these days are really useless."
Jaxon felt a bit embarrassed and retorted, "Chief, who are you looking down on? I'm not coming back because I was driven away by the rabbits. I've killed them all. I've completed the mission you gave me, and even overachieved it. Come on, give me my reward. I want legendary weapons and pets."
Fortunately, he had just killed the rabbits before returning, or he would have been ridiculed even more by the old man.
"Killed them all?" The village chief was taken aback for a moment. He looked at Jaxon intently, and then his face broke into the familiar smile that Jaxon knew so well. He grasped Jaxon's hand excitedly and said, "I knew I hadn't misjudged you. You've killed those rabbits so quickly. Our crops are saved. On behalf of everyone in the village, I thank you."
The village chief kept praising Jaxon, but Jaxon quickly interrupted him. "Chief, let's skip the empty words. Give me my reward first. I'm not asking for much. Ten legendary weapons should do, or eight would be fine. As for pets, just give me five or six mythical beasts. I'm not greedy."
"Legendary weapons? We don't have any," the village chief shook his head.
"What about mythical beasts?"
"We don't have those either," the village chief shook his head again.
"No legendary weapons or mythical beasts? Are you this poor as a village chief?" Jaxon complained. "In other games, they give you legendary weapons and mythical beasts right from the start. What kind of lousy game is this?"
