Alexis hopped off her bike, rushing up to the gate that led into the venue, the alpha's billion-dollar mansion.
The two guards in black suits pushed her back, pinning her with a glare. "Where do you think you're going?"
She looked at the one who'd spoken, a ginger head, and glanced at the gate with a strained expression. "I need to get in, my father is in there."
"And who are you?" he asked.
"Alexis Ruderth."
Both men scrutinized her from head to toe, and she followed their gazes, looking herself over. Her knee-length cargo shorts seemed fine to her, and it didn't seem like there was anything wrong with the oversized shirt she had on or her sneakers.
The two seemed amused. "A beta, huh?"
One of them cocked a brow.
"But don't you think you look a bit too small and pretty to be a beta?"
Alexis stiffened. "Nature cheated me. Is that a problem?"
"No, of course not," he responded, eyes narrowed on her. "Where is your red card?"
"What red card?"
The man pinched between his brows. "You say you are Ruderth Adolf's son, but you don't have a passing card? I think this kid is trying to find his way inside."
The other one glared at her. "You better leave, boy, before we actually take action. Are you out of your mind? Do you know you could actually get arrested for this?"
"I'm not lying!" Alexis grounded out. "Even if you won't let me in, at least bring my father to see me. He'll confirm if I'm—"
"Back off, kid!" The taller one stepped toward her, clenching the taser in his grip.
Alexis peeked at it and immediately took a step back. She hesitated but picked up her bike and began moving away from the gate. Her eyes glided over to the wall that rounded the mansion, and she suddenly kept her bike on the floor, making her way over.
She tried climbing, but it was a bit too high for her, so she stepped back a good distance before running towards it, stomping her feet on the wall, and propelling herself enough to grab on and throw herself over inside.
She fell with a heavy thud, hiding almost immediately, a pained expression on her face. Ow! She hid her way all the while she sneaked towards the very entrance that led into the mansion.
Thankfully, the guards there didn't question or even look her over, letting her pass through the widely opened double door leading into the massive foyer where the gala was taking place.
Whoa…
Guests dressed in different styles of expensive clothing were either drinking or chatting, and it suddenly dawned on her just how out of place she was. A lot of them were giving her weird eyes, a few of them more amused than confused.
The Alphas and Betas were all in suits. She couldn't smell their scent—it was an ability she didn't have and therefore couldn't exactly tell an Alpha from a Beta. Except through the fact that Alphas were physically larger than Betas.
She walked up to one of the omegas, attempting to ask if she'd seen her father, Ruderth Adolfo, but all eyes turned away to the stairs, and she, as well, looked, eyes landing on a man she'd never seen before.
The supreme alpha... the alpha of all.
Bright blue eyes locked with her brown ones. Her chest tightened, and jolted, noting the sudden pang of weird weakness that hit her body. The rapid heartbeats as if she'd run a mile.
What's going on with me?
Alexis took a step back, smacking her legs together, her thick lashes fluttering in confusion.
I don't...feel so good.
Her breathing quickened, redness flushing up her neck, to her ears, and to her face. She gripped tightly onto the hem of her shirt, her throat dipping as she swallowed over and over again.
Her fingers dug into the palms of her hands, her body moving funnily as she tried to keep her legs jammed together. She felt too hot all over.
"Uh…" One of the omegas glanced at her. "Are you okay?"
Alexis flinched. "Y-yes. I-I-I'm fine. I need to use the bathroom. W-where can I find the restroom?"
The omega frowned suspiciously at her, but did point her in a direction. "The restroom is on—"
She didn't wait for her to finish, running off in the direction she'd been given. She found the restroom, hurrying inside and locking herself in one of the toilets.
Her heart was jamming against her chest, and slowly, she lowered her gaze to her shorts, unzipping it.
No, no, no, no. This couldn't be happening. What is this…?
She trembled, lifting her head to stare at the door. "I-it can't be… I'm in…heat…"
How? She'd never been in heat before, and that was normal for her since she never manifested. She still didn't think she had, and it made no sense how she was in heat.
If anyone saw her like this—if anyone even got a hint she was in heat, they would know. They would find out she wasn't a beta. In fact, she wasn't anything, she was an outcast.
No, no, calm down, Alexis, everything is fine. Surely there's an explanation. I just have to get out of here.
Alexis zipped up her shorts and ran out of the restroom. She hurried down the way she came, intent on bolting her way out of the foyer. Her breaths were ragged, heart pounding as if it might leap from her chest.
She could suddenly smell an overpowering scent, one that had her mouth watering, but it was just one, very distinctive, she had no idea which side of the foyer it was coming from or even from who.
She saw the exit, but she didn't make it far, suddenly grabbed by the wrist and slammed against the nearest wall. Her breath was knocked out of her chest, widened eyes rising to the man looming over her.
The alpha, his scent overwhelming and choking her.
"The gala is over," he said, hardened eyes pinned on her. "Everyone…IS DISMISSED!" he announced.
