Chapter 21 - Talented

"It's the youngest of the Gray Family…" Headmaster Mensa replied as he also couldn't believe that a seven-year-old kid would be the one to see through the flaws of his Dawn Swordsmanship and even modify it to fix those problems.

Mensa had actually watched Hayden's performance from his office. He knew that what Hayden did was not a fluke and he definitely understood the real essence of the Dawn Swordsmanship.

At first, he considered that it was taught to him by another Knight, but considering the situation of their Baron Family, hiring an Aura Knight shouldn't be possible.

After all, even Brody and Henry, his older brothers, weren't aware of its flaws or even bothered to correct them at all.

It means that it was all done by Hayden alone.

"Do you think that the Gray Family is back?" Sabin asked as his eyes seemed to recall the past.

The Headmaster gave a wry smile and shrugged.

"It's hard to say… However, considering their bloodline, he must've inherited his great-grandmother's talent."

Sabin went silent after hearing this but he eventually nodded.

"It's a pity that they've fallen now…" He whispered.

The two went silent for a while but after a few moments, the Headmaster looked at Sabin and immediately reminded him.

"It doesn't matter... Let's just watch the kid for now… He's still too young and he must learn a lot of things first. Don't approach him yet. It's too early."

Hearing this, Sabin's excitement died down. Well, Mensa's words were right… Even if Hayden was really talented, he had to build up his foundation first or he might perish early.

"Oh well, I'll just wait for a few more years then…" Sabin could only scratch his head as he accepted the Headmaster's plans.

In the meantime, Hayden continued on his studies without knowing that he had been the subject of the two retired Knights' conversation.

During his mathematics class taught by a woman named Mistress Hannah.

Since it was only the first day of their class, she just began the lesson by explaining the importance of numbers in the life of a Knight.

"Numbers are the language of strategy," she started.

"A Knight who cannot calculate distances, angles, or resources is a Knight who will fail. Today, we will focus on basic arithmetic and soon, it will be its applications in combat."

She wrote a series of problems on the chalkboard, each one designed to test the students' understanding of addition, subtraction, and multiplication.

"Solve these problems in your notebooks. It doesn't matter if you make a mistake with this assessment."

Just like that, the students bent over their notebooks and answered the assessment. Everyone seemed to be troubled as none of them expected to have a sudden test.

Hayden, however, barely glanced at the problems before writing down the answers.

Of course, there was no need for his Ocularis Lens to analyze the basic equations for obvious reasons.

Mistress Hannah walked around the room, observing the students' progress.

When she reached Hayden's desk, she paused. Her eyebrows rose as she saw his completed work.

"Hayden," she said, her tone neutral but curious. "How did you solve these problems so quickly?"

Not even one in the class had passed through the second question. Hayden, however, completed the 30 questions already.

Of course, this question attracted the attention of other students.

They were all very surprised! After all, they believed that even if Hayden cheated, he wouldn't be able to be that fast copying answers from his cheat sheet.

Hayden smiled "I've always been good with numbers, Mistress Hannah. My father made sure I studied mathematics before coming here."

That was definitely a lie but that was a good excuse.

Mistress Hannah studied him for a moment, then nodded. "Impressive. But let's see how you handle something more challenging."

She wrote a new problem on a space in the chalkboard, but seeing that it might be too easy, she immediately erased it.

Then, after thinking for a moment, she changed questions involving geometry and angles.

Seeing that the question became a sentence instead of numbers, the other students groaned, but Hayden's Ocularis Lens immediately calculated the answer.

Well, it was certainly faster than Hayden's own calculation.

He then wrote it down, along with the detailed steps, and handed it to Mistress Hannah.

She read his work and in just a second, her expression changed.

Then she looked at him with a faint smile. "Meet me after your final class today. I'd like to discuss your... potential."

The students whispered as they immediately realized that Hayden seemed to have potential.

There were various thoughts in their mind but they all had one thing similar, they wanted to befriend Hayden!

However, Hayden just ignored their thoughts.

This was something he wanted to happen. If possible, he even wanted to advance in all of the classes! But since it was just his first day, he was also quite surprised. He thought that it would take him several weeks or even a month before he could advance.

"Yes, Instructor." Hayden replied with a nod.

After their mathematics, the final class of the day was Geography. As expected, it was held in a room filled with maps and models of the kingdom's terrain.

It was certainly a good room to get everyone's attention and to properly visualize their vast world.

Master Tobin, the instructor, wasn't an old man as Hayden expected. He seemed to be in his twenties and seemed to be a jovial person.

"Knowing the land is knowing your battlefield… Any aspiring knight must understand the environment to use it to their advantage. Today, we will study the layout of the Austere Kingdom and its neighboring lands."
