Chapter 19 - Subjects

Hayden had various thoughts about demonstrating the modified technique… After all, this could either benefit or harm him depending on how the Academy would view his modification.

If the Academy could accept his modification, it would benefit him since, to be honest, he didn't want to be stuck and spend about 8 years in the Academy. If he could graduate early, that would be the best for him.

On the other hand, there was also a chance other students wouldn't like him for modifying their sacred sword techniques taught by their beloved instructors. He might also be reprimanded for modifying techniques without properly learning the basics first.

However, Hayden felt that this Academy had something more to it. He felt that there should be someone in the Academy who would be able to tell the value of his modifications.

If that happened, he might even obtain a backer within the Academy.

'Right… Hiding my skills might give me a peaceful life but it will also slow down my progress. I need to grab as many opportunities as I can and I can only do it if I'm known.'

With that in mind, Hayden no longer hesitated and demonstrated the modified technique…

Since he already practiced for a bit, his movements became more accurate and he was able to copy the Lens' virtual projection.

Of course, he obviously lacked the strength and speed in his performance because of his physical limits but those with a bit of skills should be able to tell the deeper meaning of his modified movements.

As expected, the others only gained some interest at first before shifting their focus. Only those on higher grades or with better swordsmanship skills could tell that the changes he made could make the Dawn Swordsmanship better…

The boy in front of him was one of them. He watched intently throughout the whole performance...

His expression shifted from skepticism to amazement as he could tell that Hayden's changes weren't just random movements. He was able to immediately realize the hidden intent of those changes and that was to cover the weaknesses of the swordsmanship!

"Damn," the boy muttered. "That actually looks better. How'd you figure that out?"

Hayden smiled faintly. "Just paying attention."

Hayden just continued his practice after that but he didn't expect word of his modified technique to spread quickly. Soon a small crowd had gathered to watch him practice.

Among them was Lady Seraphine Valenford. This surprised everyone, especially the Instructor who had decided to ignore Hayden's performance.

Unfortunately, with her presence, he had to immediately show that he had an interest in a young talent.

He immediately stood beside her and informed her that Hayden was just a new student. It seemed that this instructor knew about Hayden being the youngest brother of Henry and Brody.

"Not bad," she said to Hayden... "But can you do it in a real fight?"

Hayden met her gaze and shook her head with a helpless smile on his face "No way… I'm still too weak. I can barely hold this sword."

Seraphine smirked. "That's true… You have to build up your foundation."

As she walked away, Hayden couldn't help but feel a surge of excitement. His guess was right.

Three days passed quickly and Hayden's matter in the training yard wasn't that big of a deal for many…

It was soon forgotten and the new students were kept busy with orientation events, tours of the academy, and meetings with their instructors.

Finally, the day of the entrance ceremony arrived.

The grand hall was filled with the new students gathered with their blue and white uniforms crisp and their faces a mix of nervousness and anticipation.

At the front of the hall stood Headmaster Mensa as he addressed the crowd.

Mensa was one of the retired Knights who built this Academy. He was currently seventy years old but he still seemed a lot more powerful than most of the Instructors.

"Welcome, new students, to the Dawnspire Academy of Chivalry. You stand at the beginning of a journey that will test your mind, body, and spirit. Here, you will learn the values of discipline, honor, and perseverance. Remember: the path of a Knight is not an easy one, but it is a path worth walking."

The ceremony concluded with the students reciting the academy's oath…

Everyone felt excited as they hoped that they would also become such a powerful Knight once they left the Academy.

Everyone here had their own situation why had been sent here… This was their chance to prove themselves, and they weren't going to waste it.

"I guess I have to be patient, huh…" Hayden muttered as he learned about the subjects he had to study.

Apparently, after the ceremony, the new students were divided into groups and assigned to their first classes.

Since they were only seven years old, the curriculum focused on foundational knowledge and skills. Hayden's schedule included eight classes…

The subjects included Etiquette and Protocol, Reumish Language, History of the Austere Kingdom, Mathematics, Geography, Basic Swordsmanship, Physical Conditioning, and Introduction to Aura.

The first class of the day was Etiquette and Protocol, taught by a stern woman named Lady Stephanie.

Just like the name of the subject, she taught them about the importance of manners, respect, and proper behavior, both in and out of the academy.

"Remember," she said, her voice sharp, "a Knight is not just a warrior. They are a representative of their family, their kingdom, and their honor. How you conduct yourself matters."
