Chapter 13: The Dark Past.
Reggie's mind raced as he tried to process the sudden revelation. Harrison Smith had long claimed to be his brother, not just to steal his identity, but to protect him during his family's darkest hour.
As they left the meeting, Lucy met Reggie with a confused expression on her face. "What does 'the dark past' mean?" she asked.
Reggie shook his head. "I don't know," he said. "But I think we should find out."
Lucy agreed. "We should do some research," she said. "See if we can uncover some secrets about the Smith family from the past."
Back at the office, Reggie and Lucy began digging through old records and newspapers, looking for information about the Smith family's troubled past.
After hours of searching, they came across an old newspaper that caught their attention. Headline: "The Smith Family is in Trouble".
Reggie's eyes widened as he read the text. "This is it," he said. "This is the dark past Harrison spoke of."
Lucy's eyes focused on the text, her expression growing more serious. "It's because of a business deal gone wrong," she said. "The Smith family has been charged with theft and fraud."
Reggie's eyes widened. "What happened to the family?" he asked.
Lucy's voice was barely above a whisper. "They're broken," she said. "Their reputation is ruined, they've lost everything."
Reggie's mind was racing. This is the secret Harrison is trying to protect from his brother. But what happened?
As they continue their investigation, Reggie and Lucy discover that the Smith family is covering up the attack, and that they have been trying to hide it for years.
But why does Harrison say he is the younger brother? And what does the voice have to do with all this? When they returned to the Smith Mansion, Harrison himself greeted Reggie and Lucy. "I see you've been doing research," he said, his eyes widening.
Reggie nodded. "We have it," he said. "We all know about the damage."
Harrison looked sad. "I'm trying to protect my brother," he said. "I don't want him to be hurt by the family's past sorrow."
Reggie's eyes widened. "I know," he said. "But why do you say it is?"
Harrison, don't delay. "I don't want to lose the family," he said. "I know that if the truth comes out, everything will be lost."
Reggie's eyes widened. "But what about the necklace?" he asked.
Harrison's eyes fell. "I tried to sell it to pay off our family debts," he said. "But I didn't mean to hurt anyone." "I'm sorry."
When Reggie and Lucy leave the mansion, they can't help but feel sad. The dark side of the Smith family has driven them away, and they've spent years trying to hide it.
But Reggie's mind is still racing. There are still so many unanswered questions. Who wrote the mystery? What's the connection to the voicemail?
When they got back to the office, Reggie's phone rang. He answered, listening intently to the voice on the other end.
"What was that?" Lucy asked, seeing the shocked look on Reggie's face.
Reggie's eyes widened. "Detective James," he said. "He has something important to say."
Lucy's eyes lit up with joy. "What's that?" she asked.
Reggie was very serious. "He's found a hidden safe in the Smith house," he said. "Inside, he found a letter that explained everything."
When Reggie and Lucy arrived at the police station, they were terrified. Finally, they were able to reveal the truth.
But as they read the letter, Reggie's eyes widened. The truth was that it was much harder than he had imagined.
But when they left the police station, Reggie couldn't save himself or herself. Finally, the matter would be settled, and the case decided.
But as they were leaving the train station, Reggie's phone rang again. He answered, listening intently to the voice on the other end.
"What was that?" Lucy asked, seeing the shocked look on Reggie's face.
Reggie's eyes widened. "It's a new case," he said. "And it's going to be tough."
As Reggie and Lucy drifted into the sunset, they couldn't save them. They were ready for what was to come.
